Mushtaq Mohd? He was a great captain.
I would go for an outsider tho, Dean Jones wouldn't be bad choice either.

inzi and myo will mind that :D
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
Yes he can become all rounder ...captain, coach, religious coach etc.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
Dave Whatmore would be a good choice as he has been working with teams from sub-continent and knows the culture and mentality of the players.
However, deep down would he really accept the job as a coach:
[a] May yes to a certain extent as it will be a new challenge for him and better offer in terms of money may tempt him
** May be no because of the politics and controversies which have been affecting Pakistan cricket in recent time and may feel that he would not feel comfortable for working for such a board
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
I recommend Motu Ashok Malhotra for India and Paanwaala Javed Miandad for Pakistan. Let's bring back the 80s !!
But seriously, how is Aaqib Javed on the laptop front ?
Also, I personally feel that for some ex-cricketers who have turned commentators , their "commentary" is a big give-away on their overall personality, insight and analytical skills. Sohail & Waqar don't pass the commentary test. Shastri, on the other hand, would make a good coach though as a cricketer his talents were often limited.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
Dave Whatmore.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
select who ever but he must not be a Pakistani.
The reason: PCB only listens to outsiders. Foreigners say dartay hai na
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
How about Arjuna Ranatunga?
But seriously, Imran Khan would be a no-brainer but I am not sure if he is willing to part with his political career though.
Otherwise a good option would probably be Rashid Latif.
Aaqib is the coach of the national academy. He is not free for national duty.
If you bring Miandad, than Faisal will play every single game. Don’t want that. Plus Miandad isn’t all that. Need innovative and thought provoking coaches.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan’s coach if Woolmer leaves?
dont do this to blind cricket
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
HomiD: Rashid is a big no no, he will take us in the revers direction with all his politics.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
I personally don't care if our coach is desi or foriegner, whoever delivers the results should have the job. With Akhtar and inzi gone, younis being the captain, we should consider the chemistry between younis and aqib/rashid/Dav W as a captain and coach. if it seems like a good combo, go for it!
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan’s coach if Woolmer leaves?
Aqib might not be as arrogant as Javed but u can bet there will be a lot of controversies and back biting if he’s selected. If u have a chance to watch the “Waqas-Saleem Altaf” verbal bouts on Geo Super make sure to notice the complaining tone of Waqar Younis abt Aqib’s new job..Waqar keeps refering to himself as “Legend of the game” and subtly mentions his annoyance over Aqib’s appointment. It is easy to see even if Aqib does nothing wrong, wrong will still be done.
Secondly Dav has a lot more experience in channeling raw talent. Watch the documentary I posted in my first post and you’ll notice that Dav’s method of coaching mirrors Woolmer’s…that is talking to the guys..giving them confidence etc etc. I am sure you’ll agree with me that the only real complain abt woolmer has been his unwillingness to be agressive and to experiment…now I know Inzi has a lot to do with it but I just get the feeling Woolmer could’ve pushed inzi more. Dav on the other side can claim to have re-invented the wheel when his team was destroying the oppositions in first 15 overs. In nutshell, Dav has the following advantages of Aqib:
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
I would also go with Aqib if Woolmer chooses to leave. Shoaib's career wil be coming to an end around summer or fall of 2008 and I am sure new bowlers like that of Anwar Ali, Jamshed and Gul will be our choice along with Asif being the strike bowler. Sami, Rana, Shabbir will be in their late twenties and with their inconsistenct bowling stats, they will not stay for long. Just for that reason, Aqib can really help the youngster become confident as he did during his coaching U-19.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan’s coach if Woolmer leaves?
I still don’t see what would be wrong if Aqib is chosen, if you are thinking what Waqar will still be bowling coach under Aqib then forget about it, Aqib was a fine medium pacer himself and can teach something to Shahid Nazir/Gul/Rana if need be. Waqar is not going to comeback as any kind of coach with PCB anytime soon.
However, I agree that Dav could also be a good coach :k:
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
I think Aqib still needs some more time to groom himself as a head coach.. and i doubt that the paki palayers will give him the respect or take him more seriously if hez on 34.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
Wouldn't it be a good idea if he works with the likes of Woolmer or Whatmore (if he gets the job) so that he gets more experience of working with a senior international side.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan’s coach if Woolmer leaves?
Yeah he needs to gain some weight.
