With lots of speculation going around Woolmer’s future, lets see who the Guppies choose as the next person in Pakistan with the biggest headache.
Choices:
Tom Moody
Dean Jones
Dav Whatmore
Duncan Fletcher
Greg Chappell
John Wright
John Buchanan :hinna:
Richard Pybus
JAVED MIANDAD
Choose away. Keeping all the security concerns and blah blah…my choice would be Dav Whatmore. He’s lived in South Asia long enough to know the culture and if he can live in the Tamil Tiger country, he can sure live in Pakistan. He’s very methodical and doing great things for Bangladesh. Already has a World Cup win in his resume so I think he’s the perfect choice.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
Aaqib Javed, he is very skilled, knows what he is talking about, has led u-19 team to world cup wins, also he has had very successful tours with the A team. with the crop of good young fast bowlers we need him. he has also done some coaching courses in the much praised forign countries, nor does he represent a lobby i think! currently he is coach in NCA i think!
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
I concur with razeeb. Aaqib would be great as a bowling coach....As head coach I think he'll still have the same trouble Javed did...not senior or old enough to get respect from senior players.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
Good input Pakawam1. Aaqib sure does have coaching abilities. He can be assisted by a computer analysist, that would be great. Plus he knows most of the domestic players very well, so he must have names in hands who can be called for national duty who otherwise will be sacrificed in the name of selection comittee.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan’s coach if Woolmer leaves?
No, because he is supposed to be the ‘shahi mehmaan’ of one Billion people who thought they have the best talent in the world and only require ‘some’ polish. I don’t think Greg will be coaching any brown team again, his reputation is ruined. He is now litterally getting chappels in India. Its better for India which is polluted with regional politics, quota system and personal agendas to hire an Indian coach next time. Except for Shoaib’s incident, Woolmar has earned a lot of respect from people of Pakistan. Winning or loosing, he has public vote.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
Seriously speaking....If woolmer goes you need someone like Imran Khan to coach. And I don't see anyone like that. Miandad is no way a good coach. He is old school, ghisa peta GAALEE baaz coach.
If PCB has any brains they should fight tooth and nail to make Woolmer stay. Give a big offer right now, doesn't matter what happens in this WC. That kind of thinking is purely dumb. You need to give Woolmer another 3 years atleast for him to make sure that the seeds he planted are growing in the right direction.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
Nobody mentioned John Buchanan....is it becuz he's not rated high enough by the guppies or have we resigned to the fact that we can never get him? John has SOME credentials as coach... Maybe he can tweak the supposed second best team, bring in some working methods from Aus and have a crack at his former emplyers?....food for thought.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
My list in order of preference is as follows;
Nazir Junior - off-spinner from Pakistan Railways, National team and now a first class umpire
Jalaluddin - took a hatrick against India I think
Rizwan-uz-zamaan - A dynamic Desmon Haynes like opener who took fast bowlers to the cleaners. He also took the famous Gavaskar catch in 1987 Bangalore test match which PK won by 16 runs.
Tauseef Ahmed - The only think I remember about him is getting clubbed by Viv or him running alongside Miandad after the Sharjah Six.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
dave whatmore . he is the only coach who might be interested in taking up a sub-continent team. I hope ECB keep fletcher and so pakistan can negotiate with woolmer for post WC .
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan's coach if Woolmer leaves?
I really don't know who has the gravitas to be the next coach but I hope he is someone forward-looking and knows how to fit in with younger players b/c our team is very young.
I think Woolmer is leaving no doubt, he has done a great job but you can only take this team so far. His tenure has been a great stabilizing force for this team.
Re: Who would you like to see as Pakistan’s coach if Woolmer leaves?
I disagree, I believe Aqib will be very good choice, he has taken many coaching courses and I am sure they train some human psychology in those courses as well. There is no bowler in current team who has bowled alongwith Aqib (in same team at some time)… may be Shahid Nazir but then he looks like very humble and cooperative guy.
Besides Miandad was probably arrogant about his approach, he was overthrown as captain probably twice, he doesn’t know man-management.
