Who will win the world cup

With ten days to the start of the world cup, who do you think will win it. The poll will close on 8 Feb.

South Africa - They have been performing consistently since last 3 world cups and this is their best chance.

Pakistan, if they play professionally. Had we given the option of a second choice, i would have gone for West Indies or New Zealand

I pick Zimbabwe. Look they will get four points b/c Australia and England will forfeit. That means they only need to beat Namibia and Bangladesh to make it to the Super Six leaving Australia, England, India and Pakistan wrestling over two spots.

Much like Sri Lanka in '96, Zimbabwe could use its "home field" to its brutal advantage.

Otherwise, look for an Australia - Sri Lanka final.

Sri Lanka??? No way, its a one man team and they need to see other resaources then murali to be able to make thier mark in big games... Lets see anyways.

AUSTRALIA
strong batting....great opening pair and middle order plus the tailenders also capable of hitting
strong bowling.....good fast bowlers....a good spinner
Wicketkeeping is also one of the best and fielding too...whatelse they need to win....consistency as well

yeh more like a two man depending on Jayasuria and Murali especially Murali...if he is out their whole team is out of form.

I picked Pakistan, when it comes to the World Cup, they play their best, the only team to have made it to the elimination rounds in all world cups since 1979, which is a huge booster but also dissappointed that they choke at the big games. Forget about the past, Pakistanis are motivated and in high spirit this coming WC, and with the return of Wasim and Shoaib the bowling lineup will be at its best.

the biggest assett Australia has is the Psychological hold over all other cricketing nations.. Australia have weaknesses too, one being thier extra aggressve appraoch and other lack of a worldclass all-rounder.

i think the absence of steve waugh could end up being more of a problem to australia than some might think, he was their equivalent of imran khan. i can see them losing to a team like the west indies or sri lanka in the semis.

I agree, since the exclusion of Steve Waugh, Australia have yet to be put in exptreme pressure like the WC match against South Africa where Waugh scored a century to win the match for his country. Ponting is a first class batsman but the burden of captaincy on pressure situations may hold his team down.

well Umair dont forget, they were put in extreme pressure in June :) and later in september... They just cracked.

I hope anyone but the racist Australians, they should be mugged at every turn in SA. Likely to win it though :( . SA maybe. dont count the WI out......

Actually their Imran Khan was Allan Border.. who took a pretty mediocre team and made them into a world class outfit. After he retired, people thought the team will go down. But Taylor took them even higher. When he went, people thought, now they will definitely go down... but Steve Waugh took them several steps higher. So, now again, a lot of people would say, the team will falter. I'd keep my fingers crossed.

That team has one really good thing going for them. Depth. They are not relying on one or two players. Plus a steady back-up of very good cricketers.

ps. But my vote still went to Pakistan. They are the team to beat. Lets hope they don't disappoint us all again.

i would pick Pakistan. There is no way Australia can win this WC. No way, jose. cause recently they were beaten by both Pak and SL. And also because goraz (Aust, Eng etc.) are too scared to play in SA.

put CANADA UP THERE!

not SA, Zimbabwe.

a1k,

They recently swept the ODI tournament, and have pretty muched whupped every side from here to Ziare!

I hope they dont win it, but there rightly hot favourites. Pakistan, using your logic, just got molested 4-1 by SA, who in turn were humbled 5-2 (of 7?) against Aus last time they had a ruck.

You can say that and your logic is definaltly correct, and then you can also say Pakistan won in Australia and that makes them hot favorites as well.
