ISLAMABAD: Former caretaker prime minister Mir Balakh Sher Mazari has reached Islamabad, while another ex-caretaker premier Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi is expected to arrive in a few days, as the government is contemplating a caretaker setup to hold general elections. “Balakh Sher Mazari is in town, while Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi is also expected to be here in a day or two. Both are vying for a second term as caretaker prime minister, as the government is looking for some experienced and acceptable names to hold general elections,” sources privy to the developments told Daily Times on Sunday. President General Pervez Musharraf has announced to dissolve parliament on November 15 and the provincial assemblies on November 20. “He will be announcing a neutral caretaker government on Thursday (Nov 15) to hold the coming polls,” the sources said.
The sources said hectic consultations were underway to finalise names for caretaker governments both at the centre and provinces. They said the names of PML senior leader Hamid Nasir Chattha, Senator SM Zafar, ex-caretaker prime minister Moinuddin Qureshi, several former judges of the Supreme Court and retired bureaucrats were also under consideration. However, the final decision would be taken by Musharraf. “He (president) will take into confidence both Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain before taking a final decision,” the sources added.
