Re: Who used Window 7?
i have heard windows 7 is the *new XP
I love windows XP and still use it. Hated Vista. Haven't tried windows 7 yet.
*that means its better than Vista
Windows 7 is the way to go. I recently switched from Windows XP 32bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and I wouldn’t go back to XP, unless I really, really have to but you wouldn’t need to go back to XP as windows virtual pc gives you windows XP mode for free. Its fantastic.
Here are more details on my experience of windows 7:

I did try vista on different users laptops and I hated it and never really made a jump from xp to vista. Good thing I waited for Win 7 and improvements to vista.

I’ve since upgraded the ram to 8GB, CPU is Quad-core AMD Phenom II Deneb 3.0 Ghz and Graphics card is the EVGA GeForce GTX 260 896MB.
You should give it a try, make sure you get at least 4 GB ram, 2GB is the new minimum.
Re: Who used Window 7?
Win7 is also supposedly able to boot in VM mode where u can specify a VHD file to boot from. VHD file being a virtual drive. Haven’t tested that out yet. But its a beautiful concept.
EDIT: Here’s a link with details:
Re: Who used Window 7?
I tried the Beta version of Windows 7. Did not compel me enough to go get it. I am fine with my Vista for the moment.
Tofi,
That is an interesting concept. I did play arond with Windows Virtual PC / XP mode, etc. but not VHD yet, looks like I will have to try that one now. I upgraded my laptop last week, its a 4 year old laptop for work and its running windows 7 smoother than it ran xp.
Aisha,
You would be fine with Windows ME as well... between clicking on start button and clicking on an orb, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Re: Who used Window 7?
Sure thanks. Will keep your useless suggestion in mind.
Re: Who used Window 7?

Thats info for me very helpful thanx buddy i got 2GB ram and currently i’m using vista business. i love it because its very simple and easy to use as multiple opreating sys. Never had problem. But thinking to go to 7.

Re: Who used Window 7?
Actually I am using MAC Leopard. I have an iMac 24 inch and one notebook which runs Windows Vista. My main computer is the mac. So I am not in to the whole upgrading windows business. I don't need to.
Re: Who used Window 7?

Re: Who used Window 7?
I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to invest my time in upgrading one of my laptops to Win 7. My work is offering a hugely discounted version which I'm very interested in trying out. I've been using Vista for the past three years without major issues, so I'm not all that motivated, but something tells me I should make the move.
Re: Who used Window 7?
^^ sirkar, if you have an EDU email account then you can get Win7 for 29.99. Check it at win741.com
Yeah - as faculty, we can pretty much get it for free if we want, but thanks for that site coolbreeze - I can let my students know about it :k:
Re: Who used Window 7?
If anyone is using Vista with the latest SP's and not having any issues than the upgrade is useless. You are not going to get features that's worth the headache of a full OS change.
The OS is pretty stable but this is coming from people jaded with Vista. I tried Vista on a few machines and it was working ok with enough hardware resources but for me something was always missing.
With Windows 7 things just clicked for me, even with the Beta version. I installed it and it just worked. I have heard of people who've had major headaches and data-lost scenarios, so its not a trivial thing. Proceed with caution.

That's what I'm afraid of - having to re-install my apps is going to be a major headache. I have more than 50 apps installed that I wouldn't want to have to re-install / re-authorize / re-register etc.
I think I'll leave this for a time when I'm relatively more free - hopefully, I'll get to hear more about first hand experiences by then as well.
BTW, I was looking at upgrading from Vista Ultimate to 7 Ultimate... and on another machine from Vista Home Basic to 7 Pro. So if someone has gone through either of these, I'd appreciate if you could share your experiences.
Re: Who used Window 7?
I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Win7 Ultimate (both 64 bit), and other than a few driver glitches the upgrade went without a hitch. But before the attempt I did make sure i had all the software installs, backed up all the data etc.
My habit has been to make a ghost image of the drive after installing any OS and all the applications I can't do without and then some. So if things do fail u don't go back to square one and rather to square 25 :).
any time brother ![]()
