Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
Well I was performing the actions of Namaz at a very early age. I remember my Great Uncle and it was from copying him in everything he did that I became so much like him. He was a stern man and prayed regularly and as a todler I used to imitate him… at those early years I had no idea what the purpose was I just did it.
I learned to pray properly by Imams but I already knew the procedure at an early age… I remember when I was about 7 or 8 years old and at Masjid I used to pray the Nafal Namaz in a crouchant state rather than standing becuase it was how Great Uncle did it, at first the Imam was amused but he explained that it was more sawab to read standing and that crouchant form was only for the old or weak. ![]()
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
my mom and sis started to make me pray with them when I was I guess 8 or 9... even though I had my namaz memorized before that!!then around 16-17 years old, I stoppped praying regularly only to get back at it once I turned 20!!!
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
my Qari (Quran teacher) taught me at age 7. He stopped my Quran for a month and made me memorize all the parts and practice out loud for a month.
I am teaching my daughter these days. We did Tashahud this weekend.
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
I can remember praying when I was about 4 or 5, I was not forced to pray but when my mom prayed she would always lay out a mini prayer mat next to hers. Sometimes I would copy her sometimes I would run around and scream.

Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
my phuppo was my islamic school teacher (we used to go Tuesdays, thursdays and Sundays) so I learned through her and the school. I dont remeber actually learnign it, but I do remember praying with everyone in jammat. I'm 31 now and still learning. There were a lot of thigns I didn't know before, but now in Halaqah we often review how to pray Salah and different types, etc.
When i used to teach, the kids were around 11-13, some of then knew how to pray, and some of them didnt.

when did you memorize the words?
I think I could pray by myself around 7-8, my mom did not recite the same suwar for evey prayer so I had to memorise the 2-3 shortest so I could pray alone.
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
I learnt it in Grade 1 at school. It was among the very first things we got taught in Islamic Studies. I remember when we had to read the whole prayer in front of class out loud, I was so nervous. We had to pray Zuhr in congregation at school every day and I used to go with my dad for Jummah since forever so these were also part of the learning process.
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
Nana abu tried to teach when I was around 7-8, but it was actually my Qari Sahib who taught me a couple years later.
Didn't actually start praying until age 18...
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?

i always was self sufficient … hehe ![]()
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
I actually learnt it here and there. I remember this aunty would do a girls class and she told us exactly what to recite during qiyaam, ruku, sajda etc , We used to attend lots of weekend classes and memorized lots of surahs during the classes... And I do remember my mom would have to yell at me to pray allllll the time back than and I used to cry :p

Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
I honestly don’t quite remember.
My mother taught me the surahs and verses that we recite in prayers. But I didn’t actually learn the proper procedure for praying until I was 11 I think. My father taught me that.
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
My parents when I was 10.
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
I remember my Dada used to call all the children and made them pray with him at least four times a day - But as we grew older we used to run away and all...so I forgot How to pray for sometime. But later on when I became responsible, i searched through the Internet and learned how to pray again...for some time i used to keep the instruction paper in front of me and pray looking at it then looked at a few videos of how to pray and followed them.
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
It was my parents who taught me.Both of them were and M'A still are very regular about their prayers.I don't remember how old I was exactly when I started to pray.We also learned about it in school in Islamiat classes.
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
My nani taught me how to pray...I think I was probably age ten...thats when she came to the States.
Re: who taught you how to pray as a child? and at what age?
Parents and then this aunty and uncle we used to go to to learn Quran....but I never really paid attention or prayed that much, I really learned when I was 18-19 in college and one of my friends from the MSA kind of taught me how to as well--refreshing my memory and I realized that I had been doing it wrong for so many years :/
