Who is Syed?

I am a direct descendent of Joan of Ark.

It is pretty foolish for Pakistanis to extrapolate links to Mohammad. When did any of Mohammad’s descendents come to India? All Arabs who came to spread Islam in India were no way related to Mohammd. It is like a German saying that he has Mangolian blood. Give me a break.

You should all be looking for your lineage to Hindus.

I am not denying in any aspect that much of my lineage includes converts, but that is Islam..everyone is equal and those who feel otherwise are wrong.

For this very reason no one in my family uses the title syed…ever.

I am happy with being from the family of Shah Wali Ullah, and Shah Abul Mu’Ali, . Not because this makes one better or opens some secret door to heaven but because it gives me a sense of history of my family

Whether a person is Syed or not whats the problem here, a muslim is know for his pious behaviours not whether he is related to the profet or not. Islam is a religion which does not believe in family, color, race what ever.

After all Mohammed(peace be upon him was a human) it doesn't mean we worship him, "There is no worthy of worship exept ALLAH and Mohammed is his messenger.

Pardon me if I have offended anyone but to me this is the fact.

Fraudia, is there any goodies associated with being a Syed? Do people had to bow before you when they greet you or do they have to bring nazrana when they come to see you?

Assalam-Alaikum,

Fraudz: It’s good to see that you know your heritage, but even better to know that you don’t claim to be better than any other muslim.

The reason I started this thread that in many discussions, people claim to be “Syed” in the sense that they think their family is better than any body elses.

It really cheeses me off, as Islam doesn’t teach us that.

Find me even ONE hadith which says that decendents from Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) have any superiority over others and i’ll eat my words

By the way, after all this discussion about Islam… we’ve forgotten the main things that make us Muslims, regardless of Sect.

…the FIVE pillars of Islam…

HA! HA! HA! Well said Dear! Keep it up!

A SPECIAL Shahbash to Sanam Ji ..!!

Live Like ALI, Die Like HUSSAIN

agree with NYAhmedi...

I've stayed in the Emirates and Saudi for quite sometime... rarely did I hear ppl talking about themselves being direct descendents from the prophet's family.
You would think that if there were to be any Syeds, they would be in those areas and not Pakistan.

It only dawned on me after staying in Pakistan for a while as to who calls themselves Syeds and what traditions and restrictions they follow esp. in marrying only other Syeds etc.

Chan not at all man. In some groups so called syeds live in this delusion of grandeur and assume that they are to be respected just because of their alleged ties with the Holy Prophet…whereas its one’s own actions that count.

Looking at the abuse of the title My family has never used the word syed in the name.

Hahah and no Nazrana either

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

my constant usage of the word nazrana-eaqeedat is poking fun at the practice of fake pirs who exploit people in Pakistan.

What it all boils down to is how decent of a human being you are more than anything and the strength of your faith.

I dont understand why people would be ashamed of being descendents from hindu converts, or how it is better than being descendent from arab converts or persian converts

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

Two main things here are #1 as noted above that by muslim belief blood lines and race etc have no effect and all people are equal.

Point #2 which has not been brought up is that thought that Islam started with adam and not with Prophet Muhammad and that al people are born muslim. I mean whether you agree with the statement or not is not the point but that is one of the thoughts in Muslim belief.

So…by that token, no one is converting, but reverting back to the faith that was supposed to be followed and thus having some sort of pride that one is descendent from people who became muslim way back vs just recently does not hold true.

At the same time it would be hard to discount the fact that there was mixing of a lot of people in India…I mean everyone attacked it as if it was a MTV spring break special, one attack every year..so people with blood lines from Arabs, Persians, Afghans and even Mongols and Africans are present.

Chann Yara, Fraud is right. Some people in Pakistan enjoy a lot of “teep-top” because of Syed in their name. I know Syeds (Bokharis) in Mianwali, people touch their knees and always sit on the floor in presence of a Syed. Meanwhile, my Syed buddies commit every sin under the sun.

Fraud, we like you just the way you are, Syed or not. Man, your name is long enough as it is. Good move not to prefix Syed in front.

P.s. I sent you Nazran-e-Aqeedat from Lahore by DHL, did you receive it?

My friend, whose father is Afghan and mother Irani, also claims to be a Syed. Its not just a Pakistani thing. I think with many Muslims, it basically has to do with a sense of honour and pride. It somehow gives them a sense of importance over others, perhaps unintentionaly.
Just a few weeks ago I was watching this historical documentary on tv. The host was travelling through various African countries which were predominantly Muslim.
Would you believe that, in one of the places, almost all these African people, (who by the way did not look like Arabs at all) claimed to be decendants of the Holy Prophet!!
I mean, it was so absurd. Anyone, including the show's host, could tell that these were baseless claims that were very obviously a source of immense pride for these people.
Imagine a situation where a man says he is the Prophet's decendant and his neighbours next door make the same claim!!
Its just too much. I agree with all those who've reinstated the fact that it is a person's character that determines their worth not their name..........

Heheh NY nope dinn get the nazrana.
All I can be certain of is that I am a direct descendent of atleast two prophets

Adam and Noah

although Darwin may disagree..

Very much right, watching the choice of your logo , Darwin would have to slightly modify the theory of evolution, as you seems to be from Cat family!

I think this term Syed is probably more abused in Pakistan than other places. Maybe with the caste background and all the rest of it. King Hussain (late) of Jordan and The Saudi family are all supposed descendants of the prophet (SAW) but they are held in contempt by many ordinairy people there. Syed is used more as a term for recognition than anything else as far as I know. If Fraudiya starts requesting people to touch his knee here, I think it would rouse other suspicions, nothing to do with status.

So finally yer dark wishes came to the surface..Keep yer hands off me Xtreme..khwar aadmi.
Tobah Tobah

anyways, the contempt for the Royals has less to do with their claim of links to the prophet but the contempt that is associated with royalty in general.

Xtreme states:

"King Hussain (late) of Jordan and The Saudi family are all supposed descendants of the prophet (SAW)"

The Saud Family is NOT descended from the Family of Quraish; neither, have they claimed to be descended from the Prophet's family.

The Saud Family is NOT descended from the Family of Quraish; neither, have they claimed to be descended from the Prophet's family.

Pardon my french. It was just an assumption. As a matter of interest, what gives them the claim to royalty?

Xtreme:

I suggest you read up on the history of the Wahabis - the origins of the Saud!

Talibans are wahabis. Their origin starts from Ibn-saud and Abdul-wahab. Both these guys were destroyers of Islam and Islamic heritage in Makkah and Madinah. They massacared muslims in Makkah and Madinah during 1800 and again in 1924. Now their heirs are trying to destroy Islam and trying to give it a bad name by encouraging Talibans.

Wassalm,
Muslim786.

beeing syed has nothing to do with your taqwa and not with a rank, too.

beeing concious of your roots isnt a crime but your right to know about your identity.

it is a well-know fact that the word syed can be used in arabic for elder or respected persons. but you will never see in arabic cultures an elder person using this word for a younger person.

sophia mujahida ji, historically and
and refrencing to hadheezes the prophet Muhammed used this word for Bibi Fatima and his sons even they were child. Therefore
the descedants use also these words for
younger persons.

when leaving for karbila prsons who were ill or weak didnt left. if i am not incorrect
Imam Zain-ul-Abedeen including them didnt
left.

syed or as in some indian regions used word
shah (there are also shah in sikhs) every where and not only in Pakistan.

after the tragedy of karbila syed were also
persecuted for their roots, therefore
they hide their identity in arabic countries.
in saudi arabia there are still regions
where you can find Sadaat communites.

scientifically, in some months methods for
tracing somebodys roots will be possible sooner. so it will prove if all syeds in
the indian subcontinent are really what
they claim. if it is not wrong scientists
use y-cromosoms found in men (right spelled?) and dna proving this.
