Oh there are principles, sure there are. And they are aplenty in routine matters.
But the governing principle is “survival” and “stability”.
Anyone threatening the survival of a big power will be punished. Abu bakar rah did it, so did Omer rah, and so did Ali rah.
In the process, they all killed others and in some cases killed fellow Muslims.

The answer is: the leaders of Iran back then, and now are threatening the stability of the region. ’
As long Pakistan doesn’t threaten the policies and schemes of big powers, we are not enemies.
And if Pakistan helps and support the big powers, we are allies! Not FRENDS, Just allies!
And allies exist for a particular mission. Once the mission is over, you have to find another CoMMON mission, or go your own way.
But whatever you do, DON’T even in your dreams, threaten a big power, especially if it is bigger than you by 10 times or more.
