Who is Allah?

This question always keeps on hammering in my mind.Is/Was he human??Who gave him the position of being Allah without being human???Why/How does he govern the world??Can any other human become Allah? Why is he abstract…i mean was he at any time on Earth? Is he really there or is he just a fear created in human brains to forbid them from doin’ evil things and encourage them to do good deeds?

I hope none of my questions offend the Islamic beliefs…its just that i wanted to know the facts.I am sorry if i hurt religious sentiments by posting these questions…

Re: Who is Allah?

Allah :swt: is God…

He isn’t human and never was…

He gave Himself the position of being Allah…

He governs the world in any way He likes…

No one can become Allah :swt: except Allah :swt: himself…

He is not abstract at all…He has already told through the Holy Quran what he likes and dislikes…

No one knows if He was on Earth but He will be on Earth when Judgement will be passed on humanity…

He is really there but doesn’t wish to reveal Himself so there’s nothing anyone can do about it…

You haven’t hurt anyone’s feelings by asking these questions in fact we welcome your questions very much and many here would answer your questions according to their understanding of your questions…And you are not the first to be asking these questions…

Re: Who is ALLAH

The answer lies in the Surah Akhlaq.
In the name of Allah, The Merciful, The All-merciful

1) ALLAH is THE ONLY ONE
2) The Absolute, Self-subsisting God
3) He has not begotten, nor has He been begotten
4) And no one equals HIM.

There was no one before HIM and no one after HIM when this world will end.

He is God; there is no god but He, He is the Knower of the unseen and the visible; He is the All-Merciful, the All-Compassionate. He is God, there is no God but He. He is the King, the All-Holy, the All-Peace, the Guardian of Faith, the All-Preserver, the All-Mighty, the All-Compeller, the All-Sublime. Glory be to God, above that they associate! He is God the Creator, the Maker, the Shaper. To Him belong the Names Most Beautiful. All that is in the heavens and the earth magnifies Him; He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise." (59:22-24)

"There is no god but He, the Living, the Everlasting. Slumber seizes Him not, neither sleep; to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. Who is there that shall intercede with Him save by His leave? He knows what lies before them and what is after them, and they comprehend not anything of His knowledge save such as He wills. His throne comprises the heavens and earth; the preserving of them oppresses Him not; He is the All-High, the All-Glorious." (2:255)

How true!

Whoever Ram was he was, he was created by Allah (swt). So Ram did know his creator.

Allah=Ram=Yahweh=Ra=Krishna=Vishnu=Trinity=..........

True. If Ram spoke Arabic, he too would have called God "Allah". Everyone's maker is the same.

I have one more question: Why do we write :swt: after “Allah”?

Similarly, I have seen : as : written after the names of the prophets. What does it mean? (I know the meaning of pbuh).

‘swt’ is abbreviation for Subhanahu wa ta’ala

This is an expression that Muslims use whenever the name of Allah is pronounced or written. The meaning of this expression is: “Allah is pure of having partners and He is exalted from having a son.”

Muslims believe that Allah is the only God, the Creator of the Universe. He does not have partners or children. Sometimes Muslims use other expressions when the name of Allah is written or pronounced. Some of which are: “'Azza Wa Jall”: He is the Mighty and the Majestic; “Jalla Jalaluh”: He is the exalted Majestic.

A.S is abbreviation for Alaihi Salaam which in Arabic means Peace be upon him

Ibn Sadique, thanks for the answer. It's interesting to know.

OK, now I have two more questions :)

  1. Why did Allah create us and the Earth at all?

  2. Is anything said in the Quran about whether or not there is life on other planets? :)

Thanks in advance for the answers.

  1. Allah :swt: is great and He wants to show it…What better way to show it than to create a creature with immense undertsanding who appreciates His greatness and worships Him…

Man is an appreciater…Allah :swt: creates and man appreciates and realizes who made all this and decides to worship the creator of all things good…And harmful…

After death there is a lot, lot more that has to be shown…

  1. I never came across any mention of life on other planets…Interesting question though…

Rohit, I can asure you that if some life is found at any other planet in future, immediately some verse of Quran will be interpreted accordingly, because the author of Quran is all knowing.

2.) Yes, "other worlds" is mentioned in the Quran. WORLDS being the key word. Worlds could mean jinn, aliens, whatever. And no Allah=Ram=Krishna whatever is wrong. You should say GOD=Ram=Krishna=Hanuman. God is love, hate until u love. Allah is Allah.

Some of the statues of idols that I've seen, sure as hell don't belong to this world.

Believe me, they belong to other planets.

Yahudi

You are right. The verse will explain it. As a matter of fact, here is the verse:

001.002
YUSUFALI: Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds;
PICKTHAL: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds,
SHAKIR: All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

001.003
YUSUFALI: Most Gracious, Most Merciful;
PICKTHAL: The Beneficent, the Merciful.
SHAKIR: The Beneficent, the Merciful.

001.004
YUSUFALI: Master of the Day of Judgment.
PICKTHAL: Master of the Day of Judgment,
SHAKIR: Master of the Day of Judgment.

001.005
YUSUFALI: Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek.
PICKTHAL: Thee (alone) we worship; Thee (alone) we ask for help.
SHAKIR: Thee do we serve and Thee do we beseech for help.

001.006
YUSUFALI: Show us the straight way,
PICKTHAL: Show us the straight path,
SHAKIR: Keep us on the right path.

001.007
YUSUFALI: The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace, those whose (portion) is not wrath, and who go not astray.
PICKTHAL: The path of those whom Thou hast favoured; Not the (path) of those who earn Thine anger nor of those who go astray.
SHAKIR: The path of those upon whom Thou hast bestowed favors. Not (the path) of those upon whom Thy wrath is brought down, nor of those who go astray.

Don't tell me I don't spoil you Anand.

Lajawab, thanks for the answer. Aishaaa1, could you please share that quote from the Quran which mentions “other worlds”. It would be interesting to read.

yahudi, let us cross our bridges when we come to them. :flower1:

sholay, thanks for the verses. Are there any other?

I hope my questions are not coming across as being a "challenge", or sarcasm or skepticism. I am asking in sincerity, and my only intention is to gain more knowledge about Islam.

^^ It's very easy to tell between sincerity and cynicism, Rohit...Ask away...

So why don't you tell us if Jewish Bhagwat Gita tells us if there is life on other planets :p
