i think it's actually called a nala proni :D
and yeah, i do use one. it's easier than a pen, or bobby pin..or whatever else it is that you can use :p

LOL. What is your next question ? who uses q tips to clean their ear and what do they use for it ? 
But it is one important gadget for each desi home. I have made a couple from old tooth brushes. One is kept in each bathroom drawers.
But I always wonder why can’t they use some extra cloth to sew a belt kind of thing which can be tied togather and you never have to look for a nala pani when you want to wear a shalwar. May be I should patent my idea.

A "Nala Pani" is a thin stick with a hole in it that has a chain/thread tied to it which you slip the elastic or Nala/Nara through to put thru the shalwar. It works much better then a pin/pen/etc as the elastic doesnt get stuck with it. Now just wearing a Nala in shalwar versus elastic is another story. I always use elastic and have NEVER had a problem :)

Hmmm..interesting. I have seen those things in my moms house but I have never used a qamarband but loads of elastic tied to any pen that has the clip on it.

Yes, we do have it in our house..but I hardly ever use it, cuz almost all of my shalwars are sewn with elastic in them.
