AND,,, i think if shoaib akhtar is made captain,,, we would finally start seeing those nice bouncy grassy wickets in pakistan too.
I think it would be either Razzaq or Saqlain. YoYo and Inzi I think are just not captain material.
Younis Khan is the only possible candidate at present. Yoyo just isn't leadership material.
I'll say Yousuf Youhana or Abdull Razzaq. Both are capable of leading the team.
Who cares, Rashid Latif all the way!
He has been doing very well with the bat and gloves, he might just be there till 2007.
On the assumption that Rahid Latif is going to retire soon, we will have two problems to fix: (a) Find a wicket keeper and (b) Find a captain.
Mueen Khan can solve both the problems for at least 2 years. He is not that bad a captain, a pretty good wicket keeper and a very useful number 7 batsman.
We don't know anything about the leadership skills of Inzi, Yousaf, or Younis. It would just be unfair to judge them without giving them a chance to show they have got. So the other possibility would be to try either of them for a series and see what kind of leadership potential have they got. Remember we did the same with Saeed Anwar only to find out that he is not a natural leader.
For the rest of the players under consideration (Razzaq, Saqlain etc.), their places are not even confirmed in the test eleven so how can they be captains. I am sure, Shoaib Akhtar's name was brought up just for the sake of fun :)

The Game Responds:
*Nope. I think that captaincy might actually make him act more responsibly off the field. Really. We all already know he gives it his all on the field. People, That Is All.*

(1) Shoaib Akhtar has been a controversial figure on and off the field. He has an attitude problem and some moral problems too. This may be tolerable for an ordinary player but a captain has to be a respected figure, not just because he is a captain.
(2) He has been suffering from fitness problems throughout his career. I can't even recall him playing 2 or 3 consecutive series. A captain should generally be available otherwise he will meet the same fate as that of Nasir Hussain.
(3) Personally I have doubts on his cricketing sense too. Just being aggressive is not good enough. Presence of mind is equally important.
Welcome to Gupshup, WitchDoctor :)
I like what WithDoctor has to say. Welcome :)
Thanks Pakistani Tiger and Pathan Bhai. I look forward to having interesting gup shup with all of you.
Considering the requirements I see absolutely no one among the new players. Either they do not have a place in the team or are just not captaincy material. Some can be tried first as a captain for their respective first class teams before we start giving “chances” rather then individuals earning them.
Yep i’ve seen plenty of it (batting) in the 3rd Test:hehe:

What Pakistan needs is a thinking captain … a skipper who is able to get on top of even the best oposition with just a bunch of no names in world cricket …
U know who is this individuell is ???
Mr. Stephen Flemming … someone who even brought the tactics of Mr. Waugh to it’s knees …
But i don’t think there is someone with this kinda qualities in the current squad … (unless PAK decide to pick me for this job, will result in that u ppl’ll see the most weird field settings in history of cricket )

u mean something like this?

dont be typical zero bhai
its same Rashid who has scored valuable runs in his career. Yes he wont be there till 2007.
You mentioned brining best out of no-names. It was Rashid who has given us an able pairing of Shabbir Ahmad and Umer Gul to complement Shoaib and Sami.

that was the thing of the past, Shoaib has been very consistent with his fittness, the last time he actually broke down on the field was during the South African one dayers.
Since then Shoaib played without injuries in WC, SL Triangular tournament, Natwest Challenge and 2 test in where he survived in scorching heat.
^^ I agree with Umair. To top it off Shoaib has been bowling really well since this rebuilding process started. He has taken the responsiblity of the senior bowler well. He bowled really well in Srilanka. He wasnt too good in the 2nd ODI of the Natwest series but in the nest match he was outstanding. Yes he did not have great figures in that match, I think he gave away 50 odd runs and went wicket less but he bowled his heart out that day. I think he was very unlucky in that match. He bowled well in the two test that he played in bowled very well in very hot conditions. Overall I think Shoaib & Sami comination should be more then enough for us backed up by Gul and Shabir.
U r right Saby Bhai … it’s just frustration i manage to express that way … when i left home BD were 9 down and the score didn’t seem that high to win the match but when i came back to see Pak at 148/6 sneaking slowly to defeat … it was unbelieveable
… Nevertheless Umar Gul might be a no name but Shabbir has served i think under Akram or Moin …
with no results whatsoever, and yes i m frustrated as much as you are.
lets hope for a inzi-magic tomorrow.
