Do Muslims believe in evolution? I certainly do, makes alot of sense.
Evolution and natural selection explain just about everything, including why there are so many races of Humans.
Anyone disagree with Evolution… If so why?
There is this Turkish author goes by name of Yayha Harun (http://www.harunyahya.com). He presents the arguments as well as they can be presented for anti-evolution. There is very little doubt in my mind that evolution is correct and explains many a facts. The proof as they say is in the pudding, and the advances in the biological sciences is closely tied to accepting evolutionary concepts. There is now overwhelming evidence even at the molecular level that evolution works, that it is getting nearly impossible to argue against it. Yayha arguments are dated ( he uses science arguments as understood in the 1950’s ), but I do not know anyone else who presents better counter arguments.
Qura'nic Islam is not against a 'Controlled' Evolutionary Process.
Controlled Evolution?!?! Whats that mean?
I don't believe in 'evolution'..coz God created MAN..not monkeys who later became MAN...plus there IS prrof that thee were human like creatures how walked upright even in the days of the so called 'monkey men'
Yeh PA what is Controlled Evolution?
Bismillah-ir-Rehman-ir-Raheem
asslamu alaikum wa rehmatullah,
In Islam, we believe in Allah (Glorified Be He, The Supreme) as the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth and all that is between them.
**He(Allah) is the Originator of the heavens and the earth…(Surat al-Anam: 101) **
We believe without any doubt that Allah The Great has creted everything and He is The Owner and Controller of everything.
The theory of evolution is an athiestic THEORY (not a fact)
… it is also proven by science that God Does EXIST. and not many ‘gods’.
You have to learn that science in all spheres does not contradict islam…because Islam is the TRUTH and science supports Islam in all ways…
The theory of evolution is proven wrong by science itself but many ignorants do not consider this fact and ignore it!!

Q 4. Where does Islam stand on the theory of evolution? Do we believe that the earth was created in six days? **
A 4. There are many theories of evolution. Some of them are acceptable according to Islam while there are others that are not acceptable. If one mean by evolution, the development and growth that Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala has placed in the nature of His creation, then this is acceptable and the Qur’an itself talks about it.
Allah has power to say “Be” and everything will become. But He created the heaven and earth in six days, as mentioned in the Qur’an (al-A’raf 7:54; Yunus 10:3; Hud 11:7; al-Furqan 25:59; al-Sajdah 32:4; Qaf 50:38; al-Hadid 57:4; al-Mujadilah 58:4) The word “six days” does not necessarily mean six days of twenty-four hours duration each. It could also mean six periods whose duration is known to Allah alone. The word “day” is used in the Qur’an for various lengths or periods of time. It could mean 24 hours day, or one thousand years day (al-Hajj 22:47) or fifty thousand years day (al-Ma’arij 70:4) or even more. However, this process of time does indicate some kind of evolution which was created by Allah and directed by Him.
The theory of evolution that postulates that the whole creation came by itself and nature evolved itself by mutation, selection and fixation etc. is not acceptable to Islam. This is an atheistic theory and it has no sensible rational and logical foundation. Every one knows that nature has so many possibilities and variables, how could all these variables selected, mutated and fixed themselves in such a way that an orderly universe came out and continues to exist and flourish? To say that all these things happened by themselves is nothing but absurd. It is like saying that words collapsed, mutated and then fixed into a wonderful encyclopedia by themselves. Or books mutated themselves and then fixed into a well organized library. Nothing happened or happens by itself. There is a Creator who has created everything, whether at once or through the process of growth and development.
Islam also teaches us that human beings are a special creation of Allah. Allah created Adam and his wife Hawwa (Eve) -peace be upon them- and then through them created many men and women. We do not accept the theory (it is important to keep in mind that this is only a theory and not a fact) that says that all living organisms came from matter and man evolved from lower living organisms. There is a link between human body and other living organisms but this does not prove that one is evolved from the other.

VERY IMPORTANT…
[Another significant fact that deserves a special consideration about this subject is that scientific discoveries also definitely refute the evolutionist claims that “life emerged as a result of pure coincidences and natural phenomena.” This is because there are extraordinarily complex examples of design in life. Even the cell of a living being is a great wonder of design that totally annuls the concept of “coincidence”] -(http://www.jamiat.org.za)
KNOW THAT ALLAH THE GREAT CALLS MAN A ‘DISTINCT CREATION’ IN THE QURAN…
MAN IS KHALAQUN AKHIRAH …HE IS THE LAST OF CREATION …BUT HE IS DISTINCT AND DIFFERENT FROM ALL OF ALLAH’S OTHER CREATION…
MAN IS THE ONLY BEING HE CREATED THAT HAS INTELLECT AND HAS THE ABILITY TO CHOOSE BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG…

I believe in evolution.
I used to belive in evoultion after being force fed the idea at school at one time now after studying the subject myself i realise how ridicuous a theory it is.
To say we evolved from monkeys is complete nonsense if that is the case why do we still have monkeys today. when i asked one professor this question he answered well some monkeys went into the city and evolved and others remaind in the jungle
yes i could’nt keep a straight face either.
The evidence for this monkey business is really sad they have like 5 stage drawings of monkey slowly developing into man if drawings is evidence then OJ Simpson is definetly innocent!
evolution doesnt claim man evolved from monkeys. what it says is, man and monkeys share common ancestry in the not-so-distant past. depending upon how much back in the past you go, man has common ancestry with all other life forms. if you think evolution is about monkeys turning into man, your grasp of the concept is flaky, time to hit the library.
...
but chimps are close to humans than pigs eventhough pig’s heart
valves is best one to fit in human heart.
The researchers discovered that human and chimp DNA differs by just 1.24%, half a per cent less than had been thought. Humans differ from gorillas by 1.62% and from orang-utans by 1.63%, again less than had been believed.
As a biology grad student, I have found that Evolution is a viable concept, but the extrapolation of evolution to explain speciation and the formation of genra is rather troublesome. There are many missing links in the evolutionary tree that these extrapolations gloss over. The classification of LUCA or the lowest common ancestor varies based on fossil evidence or genetic makeup. Is the lowest common ancestor Archea, Prokarya or even Eukarya? Depends on which of the stalwarts you want to believe. Still, I would not reject evolution completely, but discount it somewhat.
Rvikz, Humans and Chimps may have a 1.5% difference in the genomes but what does that mean? Humans and the Fruitfly Drosophila Melanogaster have extensive sequence homology. However a gene that codes for a compund eye cell in the Drosphilla may be involved in the immune response in humans! In the same way the same gene in humans and Monkeys may have a different function.
I accept evolution in general. Many people believe evolution is only about people being the offspring of monkeys, which assumption wrong. The evolution THEORY about the origination of the human race accept that the humans did not stem from monkeys, but that they rather have a common ancestor.
Many of the evolutional theories have so many holes that need still to be plugged that that is the reason they are still only called "theories".
The part of evolution I accept is geography, evolution within species, etc. There is a big jump/difference between animals and humans though.
It is the application of the theory of evolution at the molecular level that is of great importance these days. For example: the HIV virus. Why does it mutate? How? And how to understand it various mechanisms. Why do superbugs acquire immunity to various antibiotics? How does the mutation rules of a species depend upon its environment? Evoulution science moved on from the macro level to the micro a long time ago.
What evolutionary pressures existed to result in "consciousness"? Is "consciousness" a gradual analog aspect of species? Is human brain still evolving? The study of neurosystems is starting to yield some remarkable insights into the question of how our "consciousness" is tied with our brains or neocortex. The question for the religious minded is where does 'soul' fit into all of this, because science is not invoking soul in any of its hypothesis at all. As a matter of fact, it seems to be "anti-soul", where theories that try to postulate a non-material soul are apriori discounted and rejected.
Keep in mind science has been overturning many dearly held beliefs over the last 400 years and doing so inexorably and ruthlessly.

insulin that work in pig works for humans how you explain that?
heparin from pigs also used in humans not from elephants.

Look forst of all you are talking about Protien. I am talking about the Genetic code or the DNA. It takes significant modifications to go from the Dna to Protien. same is the case with heparin. Now of course the human insulin is made in bacteria with expression cassettes.

ALL THESE FACTS ABOUT PIGS AND MONKEYS HAVING SIMILARITIES TO HUMANS …SIMPLY POINTS TO ISLAM AS BEING THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE RELIGION OF ALLAH…
THIS IS JUST ANOTHER SIMPLE SCIENTIFIC PHENOMENA THAT POINTS TO ISLAM AS THE TRUTH…
BECAUSE:::::::: the jews were transformed into monkeys because they transgressed…read on!!! This DOES NOT MEAN THAT HUMANS WERE EVOLVED FROM APESAND MONKEYS OR WHATEVER…
READ MY POSTS EARLIER AND GO THROUGHT THE SITES I’VE MENTIONED…

The VERSES(ayats) in which Allah (swt) mentions the Jews being transformed into Monkeys (or apes) are shown below:
“And indeed you knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath (i.e. Saturday). We said to them: “Be you monkeys, despised and rejected.”” [2:65]
“Say (Oh Muhammed to the people of the Scriptures): “Shall I inform you of something worse than that, regarding the recompense from Allah:** those (Jews) who incurred the Curse of Allah and His Wrath, and those of whom (some) He transformed into monkeys and swines, **and those who worshipped Taghut (false Gods); such are worse in rank (on the Day of Resurrection in the Hell-fire), and far more astray from the Right path (in the life of this world).”” [5:60]
“So when they forgot the remindings that had been given to them, We rescued those who forbade evil, but We seized those who did wrong with a severe torment because they used to rebel against Allah’s command (disobey Allah)” [7:166]
Now, the context of these three revealed ayats is explained in the ayat in Surah Al-Araf, ayat number 163, which says:
“And ask them about the town that was by the sea; when they transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath: when their fish came to them openly on the Sabbath day, and did not come to them on the day they had no Sabbath. Thus we made a trial for them, for they used to rebel against Allah’s command.” [TMQ 7:163]
The story in ayat [7:163] is about the story of some Jews who defied Allah’s command, so that His punishment overtook them all of a sudden for their evil actions, transgression and defiance by way of deceit. The town mentioned in ayat [7:163] is a village called Aylah, on the shores of the Qulzum (red) sea. So these villagers (Jews) transgressed in the Sabbath and defied Allah’s command to them to keep it sanctified. They defied the command by using deceitful means to avoid honoring the Sabbath by placing nets, ropes etc for the purpose of fishing before the Sabbath would enter. When the fish came in abundance on the Saturday as usual, they were caught in the ropes and nets for the rest of the Saturday. During the night, the Jews collected the fish after the Sabbath had ended (at Maghrib). Now, when they did that,** Allah changed them from humans into monkeys, the animals having the form closest to humans. In the tafsir of Al-Awfi (rh), reported from Ibn Abbas (ra) that Al-Awfi said: “Allah changed their bodies into those of monkeys and swines. The young people turned into monkeys while the old people turned into swine”.**
These villagers were tested by Allah on the day of Sabbath by making the fish swim close to the surface of the water, on the day which they were prohibited to fish. The fish would be hidden from them on the day when they were allowed to fish. This was a test (or Imtihaan in Arabic) by Allah (swt) to the Jews, who at that time were believers (i.e. before the advent of Islam). ** Now, we are told that these people (Jews) used to rebel against Allah’s commands by defying Him (swt) and rebelling against it. **Therefore, these were a people who used to trick to violate Allah’s prohibitions, taking an action that seemed legal on the surface. However, in reality, this action was meant to transgress the prohibition.
The Messenger of Allah (swt) said with reference to this incident in history: “Do not repeat what the Jews committed, and violate Allah’s prohibitions using deceitful tricks”.
Allah (swt) said that the people of this village were divided into three groups (refer to [7:164-166]), a group that committed the prohibition, catching fish on the sabbath. Another group prohibited them from transgression and avoided them. A third group neither prohibited them, nor participated in their action. The third group said to the preachers (or Dawah carriers), “why do you forbid these people from the evil (munkar), when you know that they are destroyed and have earned Allah’s punishment?” Therefore, they said, there is no benefit in forbidding them. The preachers (or dawah carriers) replied “that we were commanded to enjoin righteousness (Maroof) and forbid evil (munkar), for on account of our advice, they might stop this evil and repent to Allah. Certainly, if they repent to Allah, Allah will accept their repentance and grant them His mercy”. When the evil-doers refused the advice, Allah states that those who enjoined the good were saved, while those who committed the transgression were destroyed, but Allah (swt) did not mention the end of those who were passive (the third group), for the compensation is comparable to the deed. This third group did not do what would warrant praise, nor commit wrong so that they are admonished. Ibn Abbas (ra) said about this issue: “I do not know whether or not the third group of people were saved”
Ibn Abi Hatim (rh) recorded that Ibn Abbas (ra) said: “Those who violated the sanctity of the Sabbath were turned into monkeys, then they perished without offspring.” Ad-Dahhak (rh) said that Ibn Abbas (ra) said: “Allah turned them into monkeys because of their sins. They only lived on the earth for three days, for no transformed person ever lives more than three days. They did not eat, drink or have offspring. Allah transformed their shapes into monkeys, and He does what He wills. On the other hand, Allah created the monkeys, swines and the rest of creation in the six days (of creation) that He mentioned in His Book.” So we can say that the monkeys and swine that exist now are not the descendants of those that were transformed.
Conclusion:
Allah (swt) made those Jews of the village by the Red sea an example for those who lived during their time as well as a reminder for those to come (like ourselves today in the year 2002), by preseving their story. This is why Allah said: “and a lesson for Al-Muttaqin (the pious)”, meaning a reminder. The torment and punishment that this village suffered was a result of indulging in Allah’s prohibitions and their deceit. Hence, those who have taqwa should be aware of their evil behaviour, so that what occured to this village does not befall them as well. Another lesson for us (as muslims, and dawah carriers) is to realise the importance of “enjoining the good (maroof) and forbidding the evil (munkar)”. Those that did enjoin the good and forbid the munkar were saved from the punishment in this life and the hereafter, by the leave of Allah (swt). Today, in the muslim lands we see Allah’s prohibitions violated day-after-day. The corruption within the muslim lands has manifested itself in the land, the sea and the air. It surrounds us from all sides. We see the deceit of our muslim rulers who profess Islam, yet enslave themselves to the Kuffar, and serve their interests rather than the Ummah’s, whilst at the same time arresting and imprisoning the sincere sons of this Ummah who stand up and account them for their transgressions. Today, it is more important than ever to take heed of the story of the village people in the Quran. We must work (as an Ummah) to remove this munkar in society, by enjoining the good (maroof) and calling the society in the muslim lands to Islam. This Hisbah, or enjoining the good and forbidding the evil is best undertaken by emulating the Sunnah of the Prophet (saws). That Sunnah is to work with an organised jamaat, a Hizb, concentrating ones activites to the political sphere of life, as that is the only sphere which can bring about a change for the better.
