lols.. but director should have arranged for costumes
Re: Who are the target viewers of Pakistani dramas
I haven't watched khaleeji dramas for long now...maybe 5 yrs or so...when I used to watch them , they fealt with issues like negligent parenting , drugs , spoilt kids , 2-3 wives , extra marital issues , disappearing of cultural values etc
just a relevant question for my knowledge? what do they show in Saudi dramas?
Re: Who are the target viewers of Pakistani dramas
Here is what Sahire Kazmi, the lady behind various issue based dramas like Khaleej, Tapish, Hawa ki Beti, Nijaat, Aahat ( a John Hopkin University project), say about the target viewers upto 1990s in Pakistani drama industry:
Re: Who are the target viewers of Pakistani dramas
I don't think they produce dramas for a specific "class" of people. I mean even the lower middle class owns a TV and have a cable connection these days. I would say the target audience are mainly women. Not many Pakistani men care to watch dramas. I wasn't surprised at the other thread that said that star plus is the most watched channel in Pakistan because these saas bahu serials must be really popular with the women.

It is strange that the viewer which was happy with tricky scripts like 'Man chale ka sauda' written by Ashfaq Ahmed fell for crap like Star Plus. But I think it was a period when sitare wala channel had a vast viewership.. The craze is gradually dying as Pakistani drama is again gaining popularity among masses, but this revival lacks issue based subjects
Re: Who are the target viewers of Pakistani dramas
Pakistani viewers ko bhee thorri bohat (relatively...) behudgee dekhnay do marriage kay naam par ;)
I think the other message of this thread is that muqawee is due for a drama wali marriage in real life! Lagta hai ammi or behno kee silawatain shru ho gai hain.

Re: Who are the target viewers of Pakistani dramas
It was banned just they show University girls in Jeans having hasheesh bhare cigarettes But during Musharraf’s era Amjad Islam Amjad’s ‘Inkar’ on anti-narcotics showed more than this without getting banned.
I think PTV stopped two serials in-between due to censorship issues. One was this ‘Ek Thi GuRiya’ and before that Jaangloos was ended just because they shown corruption of a railway minister and a Hindu lady abducted and converted to Islam at the time of partition.

well i agreed, the target audience are women so star plus is still popular and i have noticed for many years, men generally praise sunehray din, abc, dhuwan including me, don't know how many times i have watched dhuwan.
Re: Who are the target viewers of Pakistani dramas
why ban of jangloos was good? Was that setting derailing standards for today’s directors?
Shokat Siddiqui’s actual novel had a lot more and I think that was in conflict with PTV’s censor policies. strange that they approved pilot of such novel.
Re: Who are the target viewers of Pakistani dramas
you have picked almost a right point, though kazim pasha is a great director with plays like aitraaf, uljhan, chaon but jangloos was his worst play as a director. i have read complete novel (all 3 volumes) and the drama was complete mess. There was no need to make a drama on controversial topics and secondly novel reflects all and all culture of punjab but not such representation in the drama, even shooting was done in sindh.
Re: Who are the target viewers of Pakistani dramas
there was another drama banned i dont remember the name but it has Shujat Hashmi as Malik Maharban. Rumer was Malik Maharban's acting and actins were very similar to N$.
anyone remember the name?

Kazim Pasha did shooting of 'Sham se Pehle' in Sindh as well, while characters wearing Ajrak were delivering dialogues in Punjabi style Urdu. Couldn't highlight where the story belonged. Sindh, Southern Punjab or some village near Karachi, where they speak Punjabi.
