you came up with good examples. ‘Sabz Pari Laal Kabootar’ and ‘Diya Jalae Rakhna’ tried their best to do something different, but they didn’t get applause like Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar hai. They were lost among other projects running at that time.

As far as the question of how a message conveyed through drama / movie affects lives of viewers, I would say people follow what is being emphasized (read as glamorised) on media. Entertainment is not necessarily be an escape from realities all the time. Scripts based on real life issues can create necessary awareness among the masses. One may come up and say news channels are doing all this, but one should keep in mind that drama has its own impact and its not necessary that drama viewers also follow News channels in same spirit.

See, that’s the problem. The majority of viewers do not* care* about dramas raising awareness, but they do love “spicy”, “juicy” dramas filled centered around marriage and affairs.
And the makers of these Dramas see that, and don’t make dramas about important issues about in Pakistani society.
Which leads me to believe the entertainment isn’t exactly a medium for raising awareness. It can, it definitely has the potential to, but will the masses ever buy it?
