white wedding

Does anyone have pictures of REAL dulhans wearing white? is white even acceptable for desi weddings? I have never seen any pakistani or indian brides wearing white to either their nikkah or valeema..is there a reason for that or its just not a popular color??

I think most people prefer colors, some people use white for funerals...mourning. but i have seen more and more dulhans wearing white. like these:

When I went to Pakistan last year, I saw several dulhans in white. I think that Christian brides and also some Shia brides also wear white. My cousin's bride also had a white dress made, with very light peach colored accents. Anything goes these days. It will look nice as long as it's tastefully done.

These are models, not "real" brides, but I thought you might want to see these anyway.

i think white against dark skin looks soooo sexy...and white against fair skin has more of an angelic-like quality...either way white's pretty! :D

why?

white means purity... being a virgin is also known as being pure.. hence they wear white on their wedding day.. i think its sweet

nice pics :k:

i think its bull...maybe im pesimistic but there's no such thing as "purity" or "virginity" in american or westernized sense. and red is sposed to mean "slutty" ...it's a whole puritanical thing...the puritans believed that red was/is the devil's color n all...

its a religious concept i think… christianity.. not quite sure but its an old old tradition. Wearing red is only in India and Pakistan… and bangladesh hmm and fiji woops

Sara, it may not be true now, but it did represent purity centuries or even a few decades ago.

Red is played out for like a couple of centuries now. :d:D:D:D

:k: but i still prefer red and other colours for one’s big day

im in luv wit these…

Are you saying that "virginity" doesn't indicate "purity" -- OR -- are you saying that there are no virgin brides in America?? There are of course virgin brides in America. I'm sure there are some who are not virgins that do wear white, but I think it's unfair to say that all of them are not virgins.

The thing about red is probably right. Red is also the color of passion and anger, sort of impulsive emotions, so that might be why it's considered inappropriate for brides.

Our perception is based on what we've been raised with and what we're used to.

Sadzz -- I think many brides in China also wear red.

red symolizes exitement, thrill, fire and fertility.
