White Heads

My forehead’s kinda exploded with them quite recently. The only way to keep them at bay was using benzoyl peroxide , but it seems like it isn’t working lately. I dunno what to do. I’ve been exfoliating (like 2 times a week) with St. Ives Apricot Scrub for Blemish Prone Skin. I should be washing my face more…so will work on that for sure.

So yeah, can’t figure out how to fix em. Skin’s combo-sensitive, with the forehead being a bit oily. I need some good simple totkay, or medication or whatever. Please nothing using honey, since that makes me break out even more, and give me more whiteheads where they don’t belong.

:help:

Are u using hydrogen peroxide directly on u're skin!!?? OMG I seriously hope u aren't! Don't scrub more than 3 times a week... it wont help either. Wash u're face with a mild anti-bacterial facewash and have the whiteheads professionally removed. Always remember to seal and close u're pores after a bath/shower with a GOOD astringent!

Re: White Heads

sorry! i meant to say benzoyl peroxide :smack: dunno where i got hydrogen peroxide from.

errmm white heads can be removed? i thought only blackheads could be removed =/

Phew! Yes get them removed professionally..after a facial and steaming if they're really bothering u! =) Please keep u're hands-off u're face..don't over exfoliate..and irritate u're skin!

Re: White Heads

any way for them to not come in the first place?

is using an astringent/toner important? i've never used one

Yes using an astringent is important..it keeps u're pores clean and u can avoid blackheads and whiteheads too =)

Yes. It balances the PH of your skin so you're less likely to break out or become overly dry.

Re: White Heads

Washing face more is not the ideal solution. You'll just be drying out the skin which in turn will produce more oil to compensate for the dryness.
More oils means more chances of them turning into pimples or white heads.

The most important thing is dont pick on 'em cause the opening of whiteheads is not as big as black heads. You'll only push 'em back causing an infection and pimples

They can be extracted but need to be done by a professional, they use a very tiny tiny tiny needle to puncture the skin and squeeze 'em out.

And the most important thing is to find the cause of whiteheads.

IF they are only concentrated on the forehead than what hair products are you currently using?? Maybe you have whats called acne cosmetica which means acne caused by products that you are using on your skin.

Re: White Heads

my hair’s not even on my forehead lol. i’ve changed my shampoos and conditioners like atleast 4 times in the past 2-3 months, and they’re still there. my skin products haven’t changed either. could be excess oil. will try sticking to the toner again :bummer:

If u can't find a professional at short notice and u r getting really fed up at the sight of these whiteheads, do the following AT NIGHT before u go to sleep:

Wash face with antibacterial facewash.

Steam face to open pores and bring most of the white stuff to the surface of the whitehead.

Burn the tip of a fine needle on a flame and allow to cool.

Gently poke the tip of the whitehead at 40 degree angle, do NOT poke directly in a downwards motion. U will know when its burst bcos stuff will start oozing out (not for the squeamish!)

Then get a tissue and surround the white head with it. Put an index finger on either side of the spot and gently squeeze in a kind of circular motion, but alternating the pressure between the 2 index fingers.

When all the gunk is out, u will either get clear liquid or a bit of blood. I have read somewhere that u should stop squeezing when some blood appears.

Anyhow, stop when u feel its all cleared out, dab with a tissue, and IMMEDIATELY apply tea tea oil to the area with a cotton bud (Q tip). U should use the Tea tree oil that is already at a suitable dilution level that can be applied directly to the skin, like 15% or 20%.

Then go to sleep. The spot should have dried out by the morning.

In the morning, wash again with anti-bac facewash, apply tea tree oil to the spot itself, then apply a good moisturiser mixed with some tea tree oil on your face. Apply tea tree oil on the spot as and when u need it thru the day.

Don't use any foundation on your face until all your spots have cleared up.

Make sure your bedclothes and pillows are clean and germ free as possible.

Don't touch them at all other than with a Q-tip to apply t tree oil.

The end.

Re: White Heads

^ Awesome! I have one white head.. It doesn't bother me :p I've had it for a while but just to try out your method, I'm going to pop it! :D

Re: White Heads

Khumi and anyone reading kindly donot follow what RupayHalwa has posted.

Thats an invitation to causing an infection, scarring and screaming for trouble.

Oh please don't bring any needles close to u're face! Or tweezers...are any foreign objects including u're fingers! Have it done professionally..they have medicated instruments and gels..no no no NO pricking or picking!

Unless u want perm scars! Just steam u're face and use a face-scrub! Follow-up with an astringent (for u're case, u can use one with alcohol)

^ ROFL!!! I was waiting for the "don't do it!" advice, but seriously, i do that on my spots when i get them on my chin occasionally bcos can't bear the thought of a bumpy horrid spot. I can't say I have had any problems with that approach so far.

But sure, if u want to err on the side of caution, then don't do it, but for me it works!

Otherthing is, tea tree oil is antiseptic, so if instructions followed correctly, things should not get infected.

Also, pls note, at the beginning of my advice i did write

"If u can't find a professional at short notice and u r getting really fed up at the sight of these whiteheads, do the following AT NIGHT before u go to sleep:"

In anycase, my utmost respect to Adra and Gina for their sensible advice, but I am a bit of a rebel sometimes!

Yeah, do it! (But at your own risk!) Report back here, but if its bad, I shall run away and hang my head in shame. My reputation depends on it, do NOT let me down!!!

tosses a ladoo to rupayhalwa grrr! Nahin nahin leave u're skin alone! NO touching, NO popping, NO picking, NO pricking, NO golden pearl cream!

Re: White Heads

^ Naheeeeeeeeen!!!! I cannot leave my spots alone, it is a compulsion, an OCD, i would need therapy to stop doing it! ( However, I would never dream of using golden pearl cream.)

Gina.. adra.. is eskinol an astringent as well? which brand (normal priced) can i use for astringent. and ive never understood what is a toner? is it the same.

Re: White Heads

If you wanto go the natural way Witch Hazel is awesome and cheap. It smells a bit when you put it on but goes away.

Astringents are for oily skin as they have the ingredient which targets acne (hence dries skin out) toners are for your normal or dry skin.

Toners donot have any alcohol in them, the usually are water, oils, aloe or any other soothing plant extract.

eskinol is pretty strong stuff. I know I wouldnt use it on my skin. Its upto you.
