Wow! Great to see West indies back in stride - being led by Chris Gayle - Very jovial and up beat kind of character -
Although he may not be the best class in batting, he is certainly an audacious leader!
Gayle has always been a destructive player....if he`s fired up no one can stop him. They also have Sarwan, Chanderpaul and Bravo..all 3 are quality players...plus Barath has also impressed.
But more importantly, they probably have the fastest bowler in the world at the moment in Roach...with Lee out of the game, Bond and Akhter injured, no one else has the pace of Roach...and a bowling lineup consisting of Roach, Fidel Edwards who is also pretty fast along with Jerome Taylor, Benn and Bravo...the Windies would definately have one of the fastest bowling attacks in the world....
Whether they can replicate the Windies of the 80s and 90s remains to be seen...but they definately have a quality attack...if all of them are fit and playing.
I think the problem is Windies bowling lacks that bite and penetration of the 70s, 80s and early 90s. They are struggling to bowl sides out twice in tests
Their batting with Gayle, Sarwan, Chanderpaul and Bravo is pretty decent. It is good to see Windies batting with patience and discipline and posting decent totals in Australia
Our problem is exactly the otherway around. Bowling is decent if not menacing but batting sure lacks class apart from 1 or 2 individual depending heavily on Yousuf and the two Akmal brothers.
Gayle is a compulsive shot-maker and he has all the talent in the world. But the problem is he is a bit reckless and throws his wicket away rather than bowlers getting him out. He does not score those big hundreds in tests that he is quite capable of IMO
Re: While we rue the Pakistani team's debacles - WI is in a great phase of rebuilding
^^ Yes - I agree with 90+% of what you wrote.
However, even with his compulsive hitting, he is sure as heck trying to get the team out of the rut they have been stuck in for so long.
They can become a great cricketing team once again...they need a strong middle order revival like the olden days. With the RRs and BCLs gone, SS, CC are not cutting it. So lets see..
Re: While we rue the Pakistani team's debacles - WI is in a great phase of rebuilding
Yeah - come to think of it, it can be potentially interesting. However, the big disadvantage leveraging the win towards Australia's way is that windies have both tailenders at the crease. So it is just a matter of Aussies breaking through any of them to claim the trophy. Otherwise Windies had a chance if they had 1 full time batsmen atleast at the crease.
So lets see.. More than likely they will loose....still well played, but its their middle order that is letting them down...
