The one they used to follow before being / converted to atheism or some other religion they used to detest when they followed a particular religion?

Do they concentrate more on the religion which they think has some potential to challenge their views. A connected question, do atheists study religion deeply before abandoning it?

There could be many reasons for Atheists for being away from religion.

1. desire to live free of bounds as someone expressed earlier
2. Mal-practice of religion around them, may be in their family
3. Thought that religion defies logic and reasoning.
4. Thought that religion is unnecessary for life and we are smart enough to know what is good for us.
5. Thought that religion is another thing that creates divide and hatred for others.
6. failure of religious folks to make a connect with them.

In my view, no one can deny the existence of a supreme being. I have communicated with a few and this is what they typically say "yes, we don’t deny existence of an intelligent supreme power that is behind all the wonderful works we behold everyday but what we simply cannot digest is that

1. That Supreme being having a connect and communication with man
2. that there are instructions/guide from Him for us to follow.

So they don’t actually deny God but they deny the existence of prophets/messengers
