Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!
my husband and i are not expecting or anywhere near it, but i have this thing for strollers- its like buying a car! i researched quite a few for expectant friends of mine who were a bit lost too and this is what i found towards the high-end price tag… ranging from about $600-$1200 CAD.
the bugaboo- HUGE status symbol for yuppie parents in toronto. its nice, but its so common, meh. bugaboo international - the official website
the peg perego Skate and its newer model, Skate Elite is better than the bugaboo, i think.
in this stroller, the seat converts from a bassinet when fully reclined to an upright seat for when baby wants to sit up. Peg Perego Official Web Site
the other ones my friends have considered are:
the stokke (sto-key) xplory- its swedish and extremely funky- you’ll definitely be stopped and asked about it. its pricey but the seat adjusts vertically so you can pull the stroller up to the table, if yo’re out, and no need for a high chair. it also keeps baby higher up and closer to you. it also has a two wheel mode which makes it easier to pull up stairs even with the baby strapped in. its quite big though, so i’ve read some people have issues fitting it into their car trunks.
the stokke has the highest weight limit of all the strollers- it can accommodate up to a 5 year old, although why a 5 year old would be in a stroller, i’m not sure! www.stokke.com
if you’re in the UK, check out the Joolz Bloom from Mamas and Papas- they’ve basically taken the Peg Perego Skate and modified it a bit. its super stylish! but it has a separate bassinet you can attach on. there’s also the american-made Uppababy Vista. a friend of mine just bought this one in red for her upcoming arrival. also loaded with features. http://www.uppababy.com/products/product.php?id=79
the i’coo Targo- its German made and the lowest priced of all the ones mentioned above but loaded with features. its gotten some really good reviews. Grand Touring Baby - Rock Star Baby - i’coo - Disney - Esprit
the quinny buzz- don’t know much about this one. its a 3-wheeler and i’ve seen it around toronto quite a bit too- http://www.quinny.com/quinny/productdetail.aspx?id=3
the orbit infant system- this one works on a click system - basically there is the frame for the stroller and a frame you install in your car. the same seat clicks from stroller to car seat so your sleeping baby isn’t disturbed. when the baby’s older, they have a toddler seat that does the same thing, and for infants, the bassinet is designed the same way. i’ve read the carrycot is a bit heavy with baby in it, but its worth it if only because you don’t need to buy a car seat separately. the other fun thing is the seat can rotate 360 degrees on its base so no matter what directions you’re in, your baby can face you by simply turning the seat on the frame. http://www.orbitbaby.com/
except for the Skate (where the seat converts into a bassinet) all of these have bassinet attachments that click in place of the seat, and conversely, can accommodate car seats on stroller frames too.
the car seats most recommended by these stroller companies as being compatible with the stroller frames, at least in north america, are the Graco and Peg Perego. if you want to go all out, the Britax has gotten excellent reviews but its top of the line price-wise and not a lot of the strollers will accommodate it.

and yes, pushchairs, strollers, prams- all the same thing!
also keep in mind, the phil and ted’s stroller is HUGE- its a three-wheeler and modelled like a jogging stroller, and you might not be able to fit into doorways and up store aisles with it.
in the end, you should go to a baby store and test drive as many brands as you can. ultimately, that will tell you the best how it handles, what its turning radius is, and how it looks/works overall.
