Which pushchair/pram? Help!

Ok first of all…what’s the difference between a pushchair and a pram? Arent they the same?

Im expecting my lil one inshallah in Sept and we want to get something special for the baby…

I am just too lost. Hubby’s colleague suggested the Phil and Ted’s which looked good and makes sense if you are going to have another child in the next 2-3yrs which is my plan inshallah. Pretty funky looking..

But which one do you guys recommend? What do you think of the Phil and Teds one if you have one? Would you recommend it and why?

Some basic requirements of mine are as following:

  • 3 in 1 would be good - so you just grab the car seat and put it into the frame without disturbing the baby’s sleep..
  • Im thinking of 3 wheels..
  • Nice wheels - gotta give ma baby a cool ride innt..

Ok, so the last 2 points were bit on the image side but here are the real requirements…

  • I prefer 3 in 1.
  • Light and foldable
  • Shopping basket
  • Easy swivel front wheels.
  • Easy to handle with one hand
  • Able to take the covers off for wash

Cant think of anything else…you can tell I am new at all this…

Main thing is i dont want to disturb the lil bubba and let it enjoy his/her ride wether in the car or being pushed around…

Opinions needed which will be very much appreciated!

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

Sorry I cant really advise on pram as I dont live in the UK and dont know the models available there, but Congrats on the baby!!!! I am also due in September myself. I know here in US, Graco is a good choice for strollers.

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

Farr Farr get Calvin Klein stroller for the bubba:blush: They come in the most gorgeous designs and the range differs according to functionality etc. Some have more compartments some have less, just check out your stores for the range. The CK one’s come in 3 wheels and they are a cool ride:p and yes 3 in 1 is also possible.

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

Bugaboo. Pricier than most other brands, but its really like a luxury pram/stroller. And it's long lasting too, so you could use it for all future babies. If you get the bugaboo chameleon its really the best one cuz its 3 in 1... a stroller, car seat, and bassinett. I recommend looking into it if you've got those in the UK.

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

my husband and i are not expecting or anywhere near it, but i have this thing for strollers- its like buying a car! i researched quite a few for expectant friends of mine who were a bit lost too and this is what i found towards the high-end price tag… ranging from about $600-$1200 CAD.

the bugaboo- HUGE status symbol for yuppie parents in toronto. its nice, but its so common, meh. bugaboo international - the official website

the peg perego Skate and its newer model, Skate Elite is better than the bugaboo, i think.
in this stroller, the seat converts from a bassinet when fully reclined to an upright seat for when baby wants to sit up. Peg Perego Official Web Site

the other ones my friends have considered are:
the stokke (sto-key) xplory- its swedish and extremely funky- you’ll definitely be stopped and asked about it. its pricey but the seat adjusts vertically so you can pull the stroller up to the table, if yo’re out, and no need for a high chair. it also keeps baby higher up and closer to you. it also has a two wheel mode which makes it easier to pull up stairs even with the baby strapped in. its quite big though, so i’ve read some people have issues fitting it into their car trunks.
the stokke has the highest weight limit of all the strollers- it can accommodate up to a 5 year old, although why a 5 year old would be in a stroller, i’m not sure! www.stokke.com

if you’re in the UK, check out the Joolz Bloom from Mamas and Papas- they’ve basically taken the Peg Perego Skate and modified it a bit. its super stylish! but it has a separate bassinet you can attach on. Joolz, and Mamas & Papas - prams, pushchairs, car seats, baby clothes, nursery furniture & more

there’s also the american-made Uppababy Vista. a friend of mine just bought this one in red for her upcoming arrival. also loaded with features. http://www.uppababy.com/products/product.php?id=79

the i’coo Targo- its German made and the lowest priced of all the ones mentioned above but loaded with features. its gotten some really good reviews. Grand Touring Baby - Rock Star Baby - i’coo - Disney - Esprit

the quinny buzz- don’t know much about this one. its a 3-wheeler and i’ve seen it around toronto quite a bit too- http://www.quinny.com/quinny/productdetail.aspx?id=3

the orbit infant system- this one works on a click system - basically there is the frame for the stroller and a frame you install in your car. the same seat clicks from stroller to car seat so your sleeping baby isn’t disturbed. when the baby’s older, they have a toddler seat that does the same thing, and for infants, the bassinet is designed the same way. i’ve read the carrycot is a bit heavy with baby in it, but its worth it if only because you don’t need to buy a car seat separately. the other fun thing is the seat can rotate 360 degrees on its base so no matter what directions you’re in, your baby can face you by simply turning the seat on the frame. http://www.orbitbaby.com/

except for the Skate (where the seat converts into a bassinet) all of these have bassinet attachments that click in place of the seat, and conversely, can accommodate car seats on stroller frames too.
the car seats most recommended by these stroller companies as being compatible with the stroller frames, at least in north america, are the Graco and Peg Perego. if you want to go all out, the Britax has gotten excellent reviews but its top of the line price-wise and not a lot of the strollers will accommodate it.

for more reviews, check out Strollers and Prams - Pram, Buggy, Pushchair and Stroller Reviews

and yes, pushchairs, strollers, prams- all the same thing!

also keep in mind, the phil and ted’s stroller is HUGE- its a three-wheeler and modelled like a jogging stroller, and you might not be able to fit into doorways and up store aisles with it.

in the end, you should go to a baby store and test drive as many brands as you can. ultimately, that will tell you the best how it handles, what its turning radius is, and how it looks/works overall.

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

I have a Bugaboo for my daughter, it is extremely handy. We had to choose between Stokke and Bugaboo.. My husband wanted the Stokke, because it has a very unique design and it is comfortable for the baby. But the Bugaboo is much more practical... There is no huge price difference between the two (something like 100 euro). Only thing is that you have to buy all accessoiries seperately.

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

Thanks everyone for your replies...at the mo i am at work..will check out your suggestions later.

But on the practical side, i think i would want to get one where you just take the car seat out clip it into the mainframe without disturbing the bubba's sleep!

The search goes on...

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

SE, all of the ones mentioned above allow for that.

Thank you so much for your kind opinion SGC - it was very much appreciated.

I hope you dont mind my honesty but out of all of them, the only ones that i liked were the mamas and papas ones. They seemed decent and more practical - not too over the top like the others. The stokke and Joolz were def not the type i want. Just seemed for the posh type!!

Ya you are right in terms of going to the baby outlets and trying all of them out. Inshallah one will come across that i really like. Actually i am gonna start tomorrow. Gonna go in my lunch break tomorrow and try some out...whoo hoo!!

Mmmmhhh...really need to check out Phil and Teds based on your views....

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

SE haha i dont mind! i dont work for any of those companies :p
i've seen the stokke in person and it is quite definitely weird-looking- takes some getting used to for sure.

good luck finding the right one for you! :)

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

oh my god the research husband and i did when buying our travel system.. damn.

stokke, emaljunga, bugaboo, maxi cosi, name it.. we saw it

we also wanted a car seat taht could attatch to the stroller which also came with a pram option..

we settled in the end for a maxi cosi (quinny is one of the designs of a maxi cosi)...

stokke was very abnormal for a toddler and only good for a baby, seen it around the streets of copenhagen, the child does not at all look comfy.

bugaboo was good but way way way overpriced for nothing special

emaljunga is only good if u are in super shape :D i HATED the fact that u gotta manuevre it like a car.. the wheels do not swivel around (only a few select designs have the feature and they were butt ugly) so u havta kinda pick the pram up and turn it around

i love my maxi cosi... practical and cool looking.

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

Congratulations
the Phil and Teds is great...i brought it when i was expecting my 3rd, as my 2nd child was only 2 at the time....i used it for over a year and sold it on ebay for a great price
the problem with it was that the baby was in the cocoon which was quite fiddly and annoying if i went out in the car, i had to transfer him from the car seat to cocoon and vice versa...so he'd get unsettled, and it does get quite claustrophobic in the cocoon, he would get very hot and bothered, he stayed in the cocoon till about 5 months.
as you will only have the 1 child i suggest you get the attachments and convert it into a travel system.the Phil and Teds is great otherwise, lightweight to push (not when folded) and great even on pebbly surfaces, it is brilliant.

i have been looking into twins recently as my sister is now expecting her 2nd, i like the Icandy Pear, it can be used as a single as well as a double.
i suggest you shop around and go to as many dealers as possible and buy whichever takes your fancy. or even go to a family orientated park and 'pushchair watch' (still one of my favouirte pastimes)

do you honestly think that you will not be tempted to buy a new pushchair when it comes to baby no 2??? i thought i would use the same one, but ended up buying new ones for all my kids.....

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

whatever you do try not to buy a bulky travel system, i did for my 1st child who is now over 2 years old it was too big to easily get in and out of the car etc. i only used it for 6 months and ended up buying a light pushchair, so easy to manouver. i kept the 1st travel system for my 2nd baby who is now mashally 6 months old and have now bought a light pushchair for him too.
what i wish was i had bought a pram initially.
whichever travel system you go for i think it is worth looking into how it will be used when the child is 6 months this is when they can sit properly, therefore the lighter it is the better.

Hello friend.I think all of you are discussing about best pushchair.I have a suggestion for you guys who are looking to buy a good pushchair. I am currently using Pico Pushchair for my baby.I bought it from one of the leading online store of Uk .It has got some best features which makes baby feel comfortable while riding in it. Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

i am stroller-less. all that stroller research meant i thought i knew what i wanted and then i went stroller testing and now i'm confused and upset. possibly this is also because of lack of sleep in this trimester but that's another story :/
the hubby likes the mountain buggy swift, but its a three-wheeler and i don't think its very cute. i realise thats a dumb reason to not buy a stroller but i'll be pushing it all the time so i at least want something nice-looking.

i love the bugaboo bee plus but its $700 and i'm not sure it'll do so well in canadian winter weather- but would i really be out in the snow that much? its also very low to the ground.

then there's the peg perego pliko switch compact which i thought i had settled on but i saw it again and compared to the other two, it doesn't seem very sturdy and sort of cheap in its finishing.

what do i dooo?

my requirements:
- has to be light (21 lbs or less including seat)
- four-wheeler
- seat converts to bassinet and/or reclines flat
- accepts the peg perego car seat- we're borrowing our friends infant one before getting a Britax model for afterwards
- generous size basket

nice to haves:
- 1-handed fold

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

And of all the people SGC,I thought you would be one person very clear about the stroller.I remember seeing some recommendations by you in some other thread quite a while ago.
baby shopping can be overwhelming and confusing …Hope you find the perfect stroller…:hugz:

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

We ended up getting the Baby Jogger Citi Mini and have been pretty happy with it -- the one-handed fold is great! We got the adapter for the Chicco car seat as well, and used that until very recently. But it's 3-wheel.

I think if you're going to use the carseat then you don't need the bassinet feature -- I could be wrong.

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

ME TOO!!! lol
and yes, i couldn’t agree more with how overwhelming it gets. i think i’ve done *too *much research and thoroughly confused myself in the process.

sahar, you’re right- i’d opt for car seat or bassinet, not both, and it’ll be car seat out of those two.

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

Maclaren strollers are quite popular here in the UK, they have one which becomes a travel system with car seat too and are quite compact compared to prams.

Re: Which pushchair/pram? Help!

I found my stroller! Whew! Walked into Babies r Us the other day looking to add some more onesies to the registry, and voila! saw it, tested it, fell in love with it, could lift it easily, and there we go. I’m SO relieved!
Its the Mamas and Papas Sola stroller- http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=4456496
Now I need to find a Graco car seat to borrow. D’oh! I want to get the Britax later and don’t want to purchase the infant seat right now. I had a Peg all lined up for when I was getting the Pliko Switch Compact but I saw that stroller in person and it was terrible and plasticky looking- surprisingly, not very well made at all, and the Sola doesn’t take the Peg seat. Still, I’m relieved I have the stroller sorted at last.
