Which Place is Better to Live

If a choice is give to you among Pakistan, USA and Canada, can you tell from your experience which place is better to live? Perhaps best answers would come from people who are born in Pakistan and lived in Canada and USA.

Re: Which Place is Better to Live

would it not depend on people's circumstances, expectations. lifestyles and needs?

Re: Which Place is Better to Live

It completely depends what your expectations are for quality of life. My husband was born in Pakistan, and we have lived in US, UK, Dubai, and Pakistan. We visit Canada frequently because his brother's family is there now. Hands down we prefer US based on career prospects and quality of life.
UK cost of living was entirely too much, and in Dubai he didn't like the way coworkers treated him, plus there was no room to advance and we couldn't own property and so on.

We looked into Canada after 9/11, but realized that people in his field make a lot less there, and things never got as bad as we expected here, so we gave up on that idea.

Things in Pakistan just didn't work out for us at all because of the pace of life, poorer quality of life (for us anyway), job climate, sifarish system, and just general family politics. Not to mention the weather. However, if you are used to a more laid back pace of life and visitors and relatives constantly coming and going, you would probably be unhappy in the US or Canada, at least at first.

Hope this helps!

Re: Which Place is Better to Live

If you are muslim, then according to scholars it is the place where “you can strive for your deen more successfully” and it does not mean the outside environment rather your own peace of mind for deen.
I recently tried moving back to Paksitan but now am back in the US for this specific reason. Again I am in the conservative midwest US so it is not that hard to live according to Islam and Alhamdolillah jobs in my field pay well.
So here is an exmple for you to look at as well!
:jazak: for asking!

Re: Which Place is Better to Live

Amana and others,

Thanks for your response. Amana I was born and raised in Pakistan. More than a decade ago I came with my wife and three children in Canada at my own became citizens since 1997. My brothers who are also born Pakistani living in USA for last more than two decades. I got permanent resident (Green Card) status for my whole family last year but still undecided whether to move to USA or continue in Canada. Definitely chances of job opportunities are tremendous in US as compared to Canada where professionals coming from Pakistan doing cooking, driving taxis, labor and other menial jobs.

Re: Which Place is Better to Live

I've heard of well-to-do Pakistani women who really want to live in America. But then they get here and are shocked that you have to do your own cooking, cleaning and everything. They can't take it and run back to their servants. Wimps!

Re: Which Place is Better to Live

Its not just money, its a better quality of life, education, standard of living etc etc.

Quality of life is not solely tied to money, but to many things.

Re: Which Place is Better to Live

no to say that you cant have maids and chefs here either, but they make better money here than the predatory emplyment practices in Pakistan where they get paid peanuts.

Re: Which Place is Better to Live

Re: Which Place is Better to Live

Fraudia,

I am not rich. Had I rich I would have never left Pakistan. I worked many years in Canada and now working in USA. Comparing both countries, I like to work in USA more than in Canada perhaps due to more job opportunities and the value of money (American Dollar). If you cross Canada to enter USA you feel immediately a difference. (Farq saff zahir hay). It looks as you are entering a more lively and rich country.

Yes, child allowances and healthcare benefits are the major attractions in Canada. Also in USA, I hardly see Pakis roaming in malls and other places. In Toronto, it looked like you are almost in Pakistan of the Yesteryears but than job opportunities are very much limited.

When you say America is much better place to live than Canada, can you substantiate your statement keeping in view child and healthcare benefits in Canada?
