I used to watch Pakistani dramas as a kid on PTV with my siblings and ‘Daadi’. Then during the mid 90’s the quality of drama serials went downhill with poor quality productions and mediocre actors taking center screen. I stopped watching Pakistani TV altogether and switched to American Tv Shows.
Then back in 2009, my sister gave me the DVD of Doraha. At this point I hadn’t seen a Pakistani drama in over 11 years. Out of curiosity I popped the DVD in my DVD player and was COMPLETELY and UTTERLY blown away. I remember gaping at my tv in complete awe. It was like being a kid all over again and watching a good quality ptv drama with my family. That night I pulled a NIGHTER watching the whole drama. By the end of it, I was emailing all my friends links on youtube/ vidpk and begged them to watch it. I remember finding Mehreen Jabbar’s personal facebook account and sending her a LONNNGGG email and thanking her for creating a masterpiece. She was gracious enough to reply!
For me that was it!!! my next drama was Malal and then daam. After these two, I basically went mainstream. Started coming on paklinks and looking for recommendations and now I watch at least a couple of pakistani dramas a week.
Doraha holds a very special place because for me it was rebirth of Pakistan Television. So my question to everyone is! WHICH drama was it for you??? (whether you’d never seen Pak Tv before or whether you had stopped watching it liek me)
Re: Which Pakistani Drama reintroduced you to Pakistani Television????
Interesting topic .
With me is that ive always watched pakistani dramas since many years and it was my mum that hooked me onto the dramas since I was like 11 years old when we first got geo in the uk. I remember my first few serials being seeli barish, umrao jaan , ishq atish, yaad to ayengey etc... Since then I've always watched Pakistani dramas :)
Re: Which Pakistani Drama reintroduced you to Pakistani Television????
After 'Bandhan', 'Alpha Bravo Charlie' & 'Raahen' in late 90s, I stopped watching TV due to studies and on-job training. I Started watching one-two dramas a week again in 2007-08 and surprisingly the dramas that I liked at that time were directed by the person I love to dislike. Yes the dramas were 'Kuch dil ne Kaha' and ' Mann o Salwa' directed by Babar Javed :D

Re: Which Pakistani Drama reintroduced you to Pakistani Television????
for me it was meri zaat. i quit watching pak tv long time ago and turned to indian soaps , got bored from there and went to no tv. my hubby n i happened to watch meri zaat by chance n watched 10 epis in a day. thats when i came back n started watching some other serials like saaiqa, ddd, man-o-salwa and thus got hooked.
Re: Which Pakistani Drama reintroduced you to Pakistani Television????
I always watched dramas on and off. There would always be at least one serial at a time that I would make sure to watch. Pakistani dramas were always good, but for me, Meri Zaat really changed the landscape. Roag is the story that finally got me permanently hooked.
Re: Which Pakistani Drama reintroduced you to Pakistani Television????
watched sona chandi when i was a kid then stopped . Recommended "khuda kay liya" Got back the interest. Meri zaat was one. But humsafer is the only one that made me eagerly look forward whats coming next.
Re: Which Pakistani Drama reintroduced you to Pakistani Television????
I was into my american serials, never really watched pakistani dramas except Tanhaaiyan and dhoop kinare. I was told they don't make dramas like those anymore so I never bothered. I was reintroduced when I watched 'Aur zindagi badalti hai' just randomly one day and I was hooked. Thats when I found out who Mehreen Jabbar was and after that made sure I watched all her plays. I wasn't following any other plays until someone recommended AB productions as being great!! So I watched Qaide Tanhai, Roag and now through GS I get to know if something is worth watching..:D
Re: Which Pakistani Drama reintroduced you to Pakistani Television????
Lahaasil and Doraha, probably.
same here! was never really interested in dramas before i saw there two, have probably seen lahasil at least 4 times now and still love it!
After Humsafar i really want to see more dramas that leaves you with a similar impact.
Forgot to mention that I really did like QEt, and thora si wafi chaayian . I really loved the libaas series in geo and dosra such on tv one. I got dish about 5 years ago and would watch mostly geo tv. Humtv become available about 1.5 ago here in us thru dish network. I have watched a bunch of serials but on and off but Humsafar, mzzb, doraha and QeT were ones that I lost sleep over. With Humsafars end I really want the DVD. This is one serial i want to watch over and over.
Re: Which Pakistani Drama reintroduced you to Pakistani Television????
^ My last drama before Doraha was "Tawaan" (The ransom). It aired when i was in A levels. At the time, it was the only drama I was watching, so I'd already stopped watching dramas.
Re: Which Pakistani Drama reintroduced you to Pakistani Television???
I remember watching Raahen on VCD back in the mid/late 90s, there was also Ashiyana, and Ansoo.
The channel PTV prime started in USA in 2000 I believe, but I don’t recall any really good dramas then. Somehow “Behlawa” came around 2002, I dont remember the story much but the background alaap really still stands out to this day. Jhumka-Jaan, and Saiqa I enjoyed.
Fell completely in love with Doraha :k: and thats what brought it back for me, and now I’m a regular…always following 1-2 serials at a time.

Admin can we make this sticky?
Funnily enough my story is same as yours. I also got interested with 'Doraha' and actually wrote to praise her work. I think it was her blog back then and she replied back!!
