which one is weirder...

back in the day during Prophet Muhammad’s era, when not much technology existed, pork was considered dirty and then was ordered to be haram by islam, people used to die or have diseases of it by having the worms in their stomach cuz it wasnt cooked right. Now when it is cooked right and you dont hear people dying because of pork, could have been considered eatable… OR back in the day when the consequences of marrying with in the family (cousins) was not considered dangerous, now (medically proven) could cause genetic haywire in the family and later generations could have any kind of syndrome…

which one is more awkward… now… in this era?
what are your thoughts on it?

pork is considered a dirty animal..true but the others are also treated the same way.. the farms pretty much feed all animals the same stuff…

Re: which one is weirder...

Funny! You know. pigs are indeed dirty but have you ever visited a chicken farm or cow farm? They are every bit as dirty as pigs....cows roll around in dung, both cows and chickens eat dung in the same manner as pigs. Animals do not have a concept of cleanliness.

Until the 1900's, pork could be deadly to people due to a particular and nasty bug called Trichinosis. This bug has been eradicated as far as I know. But any meat or even vegetables these days can contain murderous bacterias, there was recently a huge recall of killer spinach and lettuce in the US due to a deadly bacteria.

Anyway, I do beleive that pigs with the tricinosis and shellfish ("bottom" feeders) were banned by religion in the early days because they were indeed deadly.

As far as intermarriage, yes it can be a problem. BUT you need to look at how much inter-breeding has gone on within the family line. If its minimal, then the chances are still pretty slim of having troubles. The more inter-breeding, the more chance of trouble. Basic "animal husbandry".

Re: which one is weirder…

the prohibition of pork and the permissibility of marrying a cousin is by divine command…

what u know now is from some scientific theory which cud very well be wrong, and then what???

many ppl in indo-pak marry their cousins and lead very healthy lives, so why let some stupid theories make haram what Allah has made halal, or make halal what Allah has made haram…

Re: which one is weirder...

the divine command gave a reason for everything thats out there... scientific theories could be wrong but this is a fact.. not a theory.... when people get married within families... you see problems.... many people who marry cousins live healthy and also who eat pork also live a healthy life.... where does it say that inner marriages are halal or haram?

Coolbreeze, thanks for the link.... appreciate that....:)

I think we should have the right to ask why it was done this particular way...

Re: which one is weirder...

If you had understood why you are a muslim I think you would not have raised such a silly objection. Being a muslim you submit to Allah SWT, right, pork regardless of what scientific theories may merit or demerit it, is haram for us to test our submission and obedience to Allah SWT. Do you need a bigger reason than that?

Re: which one is weirder...

Are you saying that Islam doe'snt encourage people to think or use their logic??

Re: which one is weirder...

No what I am saying is that we do not replace commandments of Allah SWT with scientific explanations. Pursuit of knowledge is encouraged and highly regarded in Islam but not to defy Allah SWT commandments.

Re: which one is weirder…

Funny thing how muslims in other part of the world are so inclined towards pork.

Back home it is considered DISGUSTING. Even you cant find it even if you are willing to pay much higher price you wont find it anywhere ( except for Islamabad, due to large number of consulates there )
In pakistan some people love doing haram stuff, like drinking, sleeping around etc. but the very same people wont show any interest in eating pig. Same is in other islamic countries.

I can not comprehend what you people find attractive in pork ? In this age when people prefer more healthier white meat all the time due to heart problems and lack of physical activity.

If we go by your theory then half of Pakistan (atleast ) should be deformed / retarded / physically challanged … No ? Because people love to marry their cousin, and they are doing this for centuries.

And there should be no birth defects in the offsprings of couples who are unrelated ? Means, there should be no special kids in pre-dominently
Christians and hindus ?

Why we see almost same percentage of (natural) deformites in almost all the countries ?

Please explain this for me ! :flower1:

Re: which one is weirder…

and who told u that pork is forbidden for some health reasons???

Re: which one is weirder...

^Can you explain for me, I don't have much knowledge on this, I'll also like to add that if some people were punished by being turned into swines, what makes people think eating it is actually good or the animal in general is good.

Re: which one is weirder...

I don't think cows eat dung, chickens do eat dung but mostly cow dung which is because cow passes many food ingredients unharmed/processed.

Re: which one is weirder...

According to new researches all red meat (Pork, cow, bull) is not good for health Dr. across the globe recommend everyone these days White meat as healthy diet.

Re: which one is weirder...

whats more weird is that people want to make haram things halal by finding excuses or 'scientific studies'.

Re: which one is weirder...

Captain, although I'm sure there are those who want to justify doing "bad" things by using scientific evidence, there are others who are simply trying to understand the reasoning behind the "rules". Theres nothing at all wrong in wanting to understand, yeah? Its human nature to want to figure things out.

Re: which one is weirder...

^ sometimes you just can tell easily which is which :)

Re: which one is weirder...

**For your information the famous actor Yul Brynner (Magnificent seven)died of triconosis, and before his death made statements that Islam was a true religion.:( **

Re: which one is weirder...

^So a person who commited sin all his life (by being in wrong profession) suddenly his testimony is trustworthy. Based on what? What is your reference?

I so agree with you about people's reaction towards some things.....Some people PICK AND CHOOSE what they want to incorporate in their form of RELIGION....Muslims would be sitting with their friend drinking sharab....alcohol and feel so proud of themselves....but when a dish with Porky pig is offered to them...they'll be like...."OH ! ITs haram"...cant eat that....Isnt that amazing....so basically whatever suits them.....
I have seen educated practising muslims that throw the word HARAM, ...Haram...like candies....What I mean is ...they'd be saying stuff that as kids parents use to scare em off from doing stuff...makes no sense whatever....but I have heard examples like...Dont mention the name "PIG in the house...otherwise for 60 days your prayers wont be answered...No mention of the name P-I-G...its Haram ...Duh!! the word is mentioned in the Quran...KHANZEER!!...and other stuff like its haram to have pictures, listen to music is HARAM...Eating non Zabiha meat IS HARAM...(Let people decide for themselves)
....Wearing Nailpolish while praying IS Haram(I made that up)...For me its better to pray...then not to pray at all becuz of the nailpolish....Its better that you think logically about the Islamic Laws....as well as Suggestions about how to live.....Islam is a very easy going religion...yet so many Mullahs or whatever people want to scare people into submission...rather for them to think and fall in love with the Islamic way of life. I heard a statistics....I may be off with the numbers a bit...but it wAS something like....The quran has 5% of Islamic Laws and the remaining 95 % are Ways of life....but all we hear is "Dont do this...Dont do that ...Dont...DONT DON'T"......Why is there so much insistance on the negative stuff????.... Its better that people embrace Islam for wwhat it really is...A loving religion that has logic behind evrything....pork, Alcohol, adultery.....everything is explained...not just ordered.....Allah hasnt stopped anyone from using logic...in the contrary...attaining more education, and research is facilitated.... We shouldnt be closed minded to try to win logically by saying...."Cuz I said so!!!...Now SUSH!!"....this isnt right and we know it.....
Why is it that people start giving so much importance to things that are so small yet choose to ignore the bigger issues??? (In my mind....Pork=small issue, Praying 5 times= Big )....anyway Thats just me.. ...Guys no harm meant...no anger envoked from you....everybody has the right to understand things to their own capacity...this is mine....so peace upon you!!!!:) :) :)

Re: which one is weirder...

PLease explain the logic of banning alcohol?
