If the answer to this question is 10% (OR if you spent anywhere close to an hour trying to clean it) its time rebuild the machine. I wouldn’t trust that computer to do anything the least bit secure. Unless you want the world to know what your Bank/Gmail/Facebook password is

Passive: Norton 360 right now
Active: Malwarebytes <<< This rocks!!!

PS: Malwarebytes also offer a full fledged Pro version now that runs with PC just like your everday antivirus.

ive never had a problem with virus or tojan. i never execute files that im not 100% sure they are legitamate files. when i open a zip from unknown source i check whats inside first.

a computer cannot be infected without downloading the source of the virus. downloading from a webpage requires confirmation from the browser… and ie9 scans any downlaods. it also scans any webpages. a file connot be saved to your harddrive and be executed from just visiting a web page (in ie9 + other latest browsers)

i think like this: every file is a virus or tojan/malware until proven that its legit.

most of you are thinking every file is safe and by installing antivirus and it will find and block the virus.

how do you check the content of a zip file before opening it ?

I use Avira Anti-Virus, MalwareBytes, and SuperAntiSpyware .

Dont you use flash drives? external hard drives? How do you know that they are not compromised?

and like T1000 asked, how do you check the contents of a zip file before opening?
