Which Anti-virus you use?

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

It is an okay product but one thing that I dont respect about products like these that their research labs (which release daily updates) depend on other security labs (McAfee, Trend Micro, Symentec etc).

Talking of Trenc Micro, I am surprised no one named it yet..

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

I dun use any .. but if someone ask for a recommendation then

Free: Avira/Avast
Commercial: Kaspersky IS ..

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

Hey, if your computer’s sitting idle wagging it’s tail just like mine then perhaps we can ask Mirch to walk them for us? Maybe I should also look into upgrading to T-1001?

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

None on mac

But i have a PC(win) kaspersky / microsoft security essentials

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

none on pc. all emails are scanned by hotmail. and i dont download files willy nilly from the internet. im only downloading media file ie non executable.

anti-virus slows down everything, windows 7 has enough protection already in my view if used correctly. Any executables should be downloaded from reputable sources only, preferably with user reviews.

anti-virus would be suitable for users not knowing the dangers of downloading and executing files from any source available on the internet.

there was a story that the anti-virus software suppliers actually encourage writing of virus and hype up the dangers to increase sales.

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

^ Not all viruses come in .exe files. They come even in self executables that will attack your pc with or without downloading any file. Trust me on that!

jang group website was badly infected a couple of months ago and accessing it would have infected your pc too in absence of an AV. So install an AV because not all AV are resource hoggers.

oh them russions have quite a remarkable and respectable security lab (and to be honest on par with chinese when it comes to hacking) but somehow kaspersky did not gain much success in corporate sectors…

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

Its one of the lightest when it comes to system resource hogging. Atleast in my personal experience any way.

I run Win 7 x64 on a Macbook Pro using Bootcamp and I want every little bit of memory I can squeeze out. I love how fast Windows runs on a Macbook Pro :hehe:

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

i used Avast 4…it became resource hog and slow with AVAST5…so then i used avira for last 2 years…and now back to avast…

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

What is the extension of those self executable files . ?

(I am a windows user)

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

so what made you switch back to avast? is it better than avira?

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

If you guys spend few bucks then go with Norton. I am using it and works awesome.

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

None of the these solutions is perfect for those who go to Virus infested websites or open emails infested with a virus. Every month I have to reclaim computers of a couple of my friends from virus , although they have Norton or some big name AV program running and providing realtime protection too. :smack:

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

^ Thats true. 100 % protection or security is a myth.

it can be a zip file, it can be a corrupt .asp file. There can be numerous threats really.

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

It shouldn’t even be called a myth anymore. Especially after the nuclear reactor computers in Iran, which are not even on the internet and super protected were infected with the Stuxnet virus. Somebody will always get in (if they want to)

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

yeh there are so many channels for entry nowadays. If its not logica, its physical, if its not physical its human! I guess that will keep security guys like me in job for foreseeable future

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

Avast is not that resource hungry anymore…and it has boot-time scan…which only paid software have…

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

Forget about security guys, its going to keep INsecurity guys like me employed :hehe:

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

Microsoft Security Essentials. Works well for me. I like it because it’s free and I don’t notice it.

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

Macafee …I dont like it. Doesnt work well for some malicious viruses

Re: Which Anti-virus you use?

^ It should. Depends how badly your computer is compromised.
