Urdu became popular in hindi movies due to one and only- Mohd Rafi. If one looks at the golden age of hindi movies in 50's and 60's.. movies were in hindi but as soon as song started it was in Urdu! There are hundreds of urdu words that beceme household due to Rafi sings.. Dilip used to sing Rafi's songs in his movies mostly.. he couldny had done without backing of so many urdu lyruists in hindi movies along with music directors..
