Dont u guyz think its kinda frustrating to see us try a few fast bowlers but no one who can admirably replace sami and shaoib after the first 10/12 overs. We tried shabbir, gul, zahid, zia [ofcourse, how can i forget him!] among others but we havent yet found a reliable backup.
I think Fazle Akbar shd be given a chance. I don follow domestic 2 much. What are the other GD options that we have??
We do have quality part timers though but we are short of 1 fast bowler. I think we need to give chance (and chance mean atleast 4-5 matches) to Shabbir and Fazal-e-Akbar. If things remain like this for quite long i can see a Waqar's comeback in the team.

well gul n shabbir have been given enough chance but to no avail. Fazl i think shd be tried one more time. and ur rite waqar might just come back, he's already made a comeback b4. it would be gr8 2 see him back in top form!
I think Gul and Shabbir arent worse backups, they are quite nice and everyone has a bad day, so did Umer Gul. its a learning curve for him and he has already proved that he is a good bowler.
I think Umer Gul will develop into finer bowler. Also, Yasir Ali should be given a chance, he got only one game to play and per reports he was fast but erratic. The erratic part could be brought under control (to some extent at least... all our existing bowlers give too many extras already).
yeah gul is a nice bowler...i am sure that with time, he will improve himself...look at sami...he has been playing for us for last 2-3 years on on-and-off basis...but has only made an impact now...so, i am sure that after 5-6 series, gul will be polished pretty well, and will be able to take on the attack with razzler after 12 or so overs...

You guys are really underrating Gul
I know the opponents were'nt great, but the guy was amazing against Bangla. In this series, the first match it was mostly the conditions that messed him up. I can imagine that his confidence really suffered after the first match. Give the guy a shot. If not then there were a couple of good young Pakistani pace bowlers in that recent tournament in Sri Lanka. Let's not forget Shabbir, Zahid and for that matter even an Azhar Mahmood type.

Gul and Shabbir dont have what it takes to be a genuine fast bowler. I have seen him bowl. Did'nt like him from day 1.
We need genuine pacers....in our team.

You guys are too quick to jump down a players throat after a couple of bad matches. Gul is barely 19 and it's a steep learning curve when you are up against two class bats like Smith and Kallis.
If genuine pace is the only quality then Glen McGrath must be a bad bowler going by your logic (or lack of).
Both Gul and Shabbir are pretty good 3rd seamers but they aren't the finished article yet which is hardly surprising given the lack of experience.

are you comparing Pakistan's management and training techniques with Australia's.
Over the past decade how many mediocre players have u seen, that have come into the Pakistan team and have matured under the training and coaching...to become great internation players. Absolutely none....cause there is so much competition that palyers dont stand a chance...to mature. If ur not good enough ur removed...and a better person takes ur place...
And i support this way....cause i believe a player should be trained and coached at the first class level. There is no such thing as coaching at international level. Coaching and training should be done in the academies and first class level.
therfore Gul should be sent back....he is only 19 as you have stated, he has plenty of time to mature at the first class level...and should come back when he is all set...
If genuine pace is the only quality then Glen McGrath must be a bad bowler going by your logic (or lack of).

and secondly not every other bowler can become a McGrath. It took him years of hard work...to get to this level. He was ordinary pacer...Australians are very good in harnessing talent. We on the other hand...are good in doing just the opposite.

Well this gul guy has played around 14 matches now. he's taken 19 wkts, one in which he took 5 against BD. so u look at the other games, its 13 in 13. he's got an economy rate of 4.66 thereabouts.
I know he mite develop in a few more months of international cricket but do u think we can or shd wait for that. that might, in the end, mean a few lost matches! this guy has got enuf chance for the time being, no youngster in pakistan gets a chance to play 10 odd games [in a row] without performing at a high level, not even someone like junaid zia!
We need to try out other guyz, coz this just kills the chances of other budding players, n there are a lot of those. now by no means i am implying his career shd be over. obviosuly not! but all i'm saying is that at this point we gotta bring in someone else n see wat he can do. n once he improves himself further, then we can bring him back n see if he deserves a ful time position within the roster...
Both Gul and Shabbir have raw talent and don’t have what it takes to be a genuine fast bowler. Umer is too young and he needs proper training to become a lethal Fast bowler, I think PCB can afford to send both Umer gul & Yasir Ali to Dennis Lillee Fast Bowling Academy is Australia or MRF Pace Foundation.
Waqar Younis deserve to be in the tema and PCB must bring him back. Fazal-e-Akbar Abdul Rauf, Jaffer Nazir and Naved ul Hasan should also be given a chance.
Hafeez needs to be replace and Asim Kamal or Imran Farhat should be consider for opening spot.
Gul and Shabbir are fine bowlers given conditions that suit them. If there are better bowlers around then great bring them in, I agree, but any guy who dismisses a bowler because he's not 'a genuine pacer' I don't take that view seriously.
Like I said, Glen McGrath is 'not a genuine pacer' so he should be dropped immediately from the Aussie team going by that logic.
Waqar Younis is finished, it's over. He had his chance but he led the most disastrous World Cup campaign in Pakistan's history and we were in crisis for the past 12 months before that. Thank God we are on our way back and winning again, that too against a side who SMASHED Waqar's team in South Africa. You guys keep living in the past, I'm backing the re-building 100%.

What do u guyz think abt Mohd. Akram ?? .. how is he doing in county cricket ??

Mohd. Akram is playing county in UK and is off to SA shortly. He was on Vectone TV last night and was full of praise for Umar Gul. He also said that he would love to be back if the selectors picked him in the squad.
