Where's our backup fast bowler??

^^the way gul performed in the odi's, i think waqar could have done a better job then him!

neways the point of my this post is that our once rich reserves of fast bowlers seem to be badly depleted right now. i mean, whenever we talk abt replacement fast bowlers, its either shabbir, gul or yasir ali, or fazl e akbar [apparently i'm the only one woh talks abt him lol!]. others talk abt bringing back Mohd. akram, or zahid. but seriously don we have any othe fast bowlers we can bring in?? any thoughts..

You guys are really underrating Gul
I know the opponents were'nt great, but the guy was amazing against Bangla. In this series, the first match it was mostly the conditions that messed him up. I can imagine that his confidence really suffered after the first match. Give the guy a shot. If not then there were a couple of good young Pakistani pace bowlers in that recent tournament in Sri Lanka. Let's not forget Shabbir, Zahid and for that matter even an Azhar Mahmood type.

where is mhmd. zahid? he was on the sharjah squad but never got a sniff of the action... has he called it quits due to his back injury? gul is really young,, we shouldnt lose hope in him quite yet...however it is concerning that after sami and shoaib we start to lose confidence in our bowling...

Waqar isn't going to be brought back so get over it. Shabbir or Gul will be given the chance and if Sami isn't fit both will play. If the field supports them by taking the catches this time they can go on to do well, young players need the wickets to build their confidence. In the ODI's catches went down and they suffered. They are both capable of taking early wickets then it will be down to the spinners to do the rest.

what?? catches were dropped off their bowling in every game they played, how do u explain gul being so expensive in most of his games.. newayz i certainly do hope that atleast one of them can shine in the 2nd test n in future games, so that we can have a regular backup fast bowler.

Newayz the point of my post was that our reserves seem to be pretty empty in the fast bowling dept. because gul n shabbir n yasir 2 a certain extent are all we talk abt...

Relax all you guys, i m sure our bowling backup resources have enough firepower in them. Guys like Abdur Rauf, Mohammad Khalil , Fahad Masood are good enough to make it to the int'l level with a little bit of fine tuning

Plus Omer Gul and Shabbir are capable bowlers, Not everyone can bowl above 90 miles per hour, relize that, second most important thing is control and Omer gul and Shabbir have it in them to make their marks. They already did that but dur credit was not given due to the quality of opposition.

I think its because selectors are hesitant to try one of new guys because of the importance of this match and playing Abdul Razzaq. (lengthening the batting line up)

^^Insha-Allah our backup fast bowlers will come gd this time around...

Some people here are soooooooooooooooooooo impatient, I think they got thier answer about our bench strength...

:p to them,

Well done Shabbir

^^

ditto to that :k:

Gul will also show his potential in days to come but Shabbir has shown he can do the job right now with some devastating seam bowling.

All you Waqar whiners here’s another :stuck_out_tongue: for good measure.

Shabbir should be a permenant feature of this team..The devastatingly fast Shoaib, and Sami backed up by Shabbir with his fantastic line and length and 85 +mph bowling should trouble a lot of batsmen. Shabbir should bowl in tandem with Kaneria because while Shoaib and Sami can be expensive, these guys on the other hand can be very frugal!:k:

How fast is Shabbir

He was bowling in the mid 80's today, so pretty fast.

More importantly he was getting lift and seam movement either way which is a point I made to you earlier in this thread when you said we "need genuine pacers in the team".

He was a constant danger to the SA batsmen.

gd stuff by shabbir .. i was hoping he’d come gd [althou i’ll admit iahd little hope!]. he’s bowling was a classic example of how to bowl in test matches. n saby yes i think i was little impatient  , i’ll give u that one! n there is no waqar whining, he shd play if he does deserves it more ahead of umar n shabbir… just like in any other players case . its as simple as that . we shd field the best 11, regarding of the past.. unless the player(s) is very problematic

in any case shabir has looked prety gd, i donno wat happend to his pace [not that he needed it], coz a friend told me he used to be very fast. perhaps an injury or somethin…

The Game Responds:

*I shudder, and then I laugh when I read the name of Waqar Younis in this thread. Really. Let him play club cricket in Australia; he is done with. People, That Is All.*

he took 11 wickets in his debut…
he has a test hat-trick…
and an odi hat-trick to his name…

and he only just made an impact???

Umar Gul took 2 wickets on his debut not 11, unless kinghts.... meant Shabir and wrote Gul

I wouldn't say he was a danger to the South African batsmen.
He did bowl well, very disciplined bowling, and most wickets were handed by the batsmen.

ufff… waqar?!
cant believe u guys… have u actually seen waqar bowl in these last couple of yrs?? i think mushtaq ahmed would be more effective if he tried bowling fast. What the hell do you guys want from him now?! He is finished, just get over him, Yes he was the best wen at his peak back in the early nineties, but please do pakistan cricket a favour and forget that vespa now.
Seeing some of the matches of the world cup, i swear if i had a gun and i saw waqar in flesh i,d probably stick the gun butt up his butt! He is at best a club level player now, so please, just cheer for sarfraz nawaz instead… I,d rather have him on the team

yes he was faster than he is now but he was called for chucking in the sahara cup in toronto a couple of years back and changed his bowling actiona a little bit… but what i really like about him is he bowls with a high arm action like aaqib javed but shabbir can get more bounce because he’s a giant
