hello all,
i need to get my baby’s head shaved… not with a machine, but with a razor or blade so that her hear will start growing properly.
where can i get this done??? we’ve gone to a couple of hair cutting places and they don’t do it - specially not to baby’s as they don’t want to take a risk!
I don’t know anyone who can do it at home…
i live in toronto, does anyone know of any place where i can get it done?
thnx!

As far as I know, no hair salon or hair cutting place will even touch a baby's head if they're not over the age of one. Too risky for them. And asking for a shave is no-no for them.
Is there an elder at home that can do it for you? Maybe your dad? Or someone from with your friends that you trust?
Re: Where to get my baby's head shaved in T.O.
We trimmed first and then shaved with a razor, with my mom's help.
Re: Where to get my baby's head shaved in T.O.
we'r all too scared to do it ourselves....:(
Re: Where to get my baby's head shaved in T.O.
^ I know the feeling. I was just lucky Ammi had done ours, so worked up the courage.
Re: Where to get my baby's head shaved in T.O.
why not just use an electric shaver, does the same thing, the hair does not know what sharp object cut it.
Re: Where to get my baby's head shaved in T.O.
^ I think with the electric shaver, the baby can feel the vibrations of the machine on his head. And babies move their heads very quickly. One second they're fine, and the next the head has been turned 180 :p
My dad shaved my little guy's head about two months back when he was born. He used a single blade, and he did an awesome job. Not one nick. I wouldn't suggest using the razors you guys' use while shaving, that have 4, 5 blades in them. The baby's hair will just get stuck (especially if it's longer/thicker), and it'll be harder to shave.
Just a few tips if you do decide to do it yourself: Find someone that has a very steady hand. One person should be shaving the head, and another holding the baby. It's better while the child is asleep, so he/she doesn't move as much, but they usually end up waking anyways. And the person holding the baby's head also has to keep steady.
Good luck korsin! I hope you find a way that works for you.

.
well the baby will feel the razor on the head as well and move the head.
as far as a good electric shaver goes, the kid can move its head, not going to get cut.
with a razor, even a good one a sideways move will make a gash.
oh yeah i forgot.. :p

we trimmed with machine and then shaved with a single blade... fil did the honours and for every shave after that its been me doing the shaving and the man holding the kid.. which is AMAZING cuz i had never held a razor blade in my life (im a waxer) ... but my husband just couldnt muster teh courage.. its really not that hard...
x2.. i think the idea is that hair grows better when scalp is shaved with a blade rather than an electric shaver... get close to skin etc.. i think ...

x2.. i think the idea is that hair grows better when scalp is shaved with a blade rather than an electric shaver... get close to skin etc.. i think ...
and I am stating that there is really no proof behind that idea
hair is hair, when it is cut, it does not know what cut it.
plus the electric shaver has blades inside anyways so whether the blade is at the tip of a manual razor or an electric shaver, its still a blade.
and how close something gets to skin has no bearing on hair growth.
now if someone has preferences that is a whole diff thing and I totally respect that
but to shave a babys head, and do it quick while having minimal chance of injury, an electric shaver can be a good option.
Re: Where to get my baby's head shaved in T.O.
It is a myth anyway that shaving baby head will help in any way to grow , thicker or better hair.
why traumatize a baby for a myths sake.
Re: Where to get my baby's head shaved in T.O.
^ True. But I think the initial shaving is a sunnat, isn't it?
But also, why don't you do it when they're asleep? Thats how all the babies in our family get their heads shaved.
Re: Where to get my baby's head shaved in T.O.
I buzzed my niece's hair when she was a young'un - we did it at about 2 months. First I trimmed the overly long hair with a pair of scissors, then I buzzed it and shaved any missed areas. It freaked me out - but between my sister and I, we managed - she held her sleeping baby and I used the shaver and razor.

True. It's not so much that the baby's hair will grow back thicker, but rather that the hair is 'unclean' or napaak, and should be shaven.
Does anyone know if there's a certain time frame that it should be done by? Within the first week, month? Or does it not matter?
Re: Where to get my baby’s head shaved in T.O.
^ I was told you had to shave a child’s head before the 7th day. But someone further clarified that you need not shave all of the hair that early, just the crown which will mean the baby looks like a monk ![]()

Where is the proof of this unclean and napaak bit ?
I have a living proof of what I said , my sisters head was never shaved when she was born but she has Mashallah thick long hair.

I hears seven days, or some multiple of seven.
We didn't do Bunny's until she was 11 weeks (she slept). Then we did it a second time at 16 weeks (she screamed). Now we will leave her in peace.
