I am hearing that now in the US, you can get food stamps on a card, and these families are rolling into grocery stores buying lobster with their food stamp money.

WASHINGTON — House Republicans narrowly pushed through a bill on Thursday that slashes billions of dollars from the food stamp program, over the objections of Democrats and a veto threat from President Obama.
The vote set up what promised to be a major clash with the Senate and dashed hopes for passage this year of a new five-year farm bill.
The vote was 217 to 210, largely along party lines.
Republican leaders, under pressure from Tea Party-backed conservatives, said the bill was needed because the food stamp program, which costs nearly $80 billion a year, had grown out of control. They said the program had expanded even as jobless rates had declined with the easing recession.

“This bill eliminates loopholes, ensures work requirements, and puts us on a fiscally responsible path,” said Representative Marlin Stutzman, Republican of Indiana, who led efforts to split the food stamps program from the overall farm bill. “In the real world, we measure success by results. It’s time for Washington to measure success by how many families are lifted out of poverty and helped back on their feet, not by how much Washington bureaucrats spend year after year.”

There are those who truly deserve all the help they can get, and then you also have those who take advantage of the system and work through loopholes. It might be difficult to sift through each case file to determine if the need is legitimate, or continues to be legitimate because what if you end up with employment, but keep the benefits? Some who abuse the system, actually do just that.

EBT cards have been around since the 1990s. funny how the fat super-citizens are only waking up now to demand the poor stop eating “lobster” - which they arent.

want to stop wasting tax money? stop subsidizing lobbies like the farm subsidies, the ridiculous tax subsidies for oil companies whose profits dwarf GDPs of nations. but meh.. take it from the poor. easy.

I’m not familiar with American economics but I’ve read somewhere that a lot of tax money is being wasted on schemes like Obama Care. As if this is not enough, if the American Gov. shuts down in October, it will cost billions of dollars probably paid by taxpayers.
