Re: Where do you draw the ___?
Never ever in any book have I read this comment from any Suhabi (companion of the Prophet) to any person: “Live and let live”, “Why are you so judgmental ?”, " Why are you so conservative ?", “Why are you so narrow minded” …etc. There was no concept of “non of your business”. Each and every bit of their deeds visible to others was also their business in order to correct each other, for the ultimate business of Allah (swt). Even though 24 hours they kept encouraging each other to do good, they kept discouraging laziness towards the orders of Allah (swt), and kept raising each others moral and level of commitment towards Allah (swt) and at the same time reducing commitment towards oneself. There was no break for oneself, let alone “enjoying” and “entertaining oneself” through naughty jokes with na-mehrams. Common people used to think of them to be mad in Allah’s love. All the time either talking about Allah (swt) and the teachings of his Prophet (saw) or listening to it or acting upon it. They used to apply breaks towards worldly benefits and apply accelerator in getting ahead in obeying Allah’s orders and spreading it. All their organs were over consumed in obeying Allah (swt)…
Definitely if anyone of present age see them in real life, they would call them extremist, fanatic,..etc. and if the commentator is a muslim like me, then would definitely be severely beaten by Hazrat Umar (r.a), who had 0% tolerance for a “Muslim” to express his own ideas in contrast to the teachings of the Prophet (Saw), directly or indirectly. That is why they deserved to be with the Prophet (saw) and we deserve to be in present age. After doing everything for Allah (Swt) and the Prophet (Saw), they thought they haven’t done anything. We haven’t done anything worth mentioning for Allah (swt) and the Prophet (saw) yet we behave as if we have done everything,
No one quoted those words as one of the sahaba’s (AS), see this is where your imposing cz just because the words judgmental, conservative were’nt used then, makes it wrong to discuss such things? We are free to discuss whatever we want to understand things better.
A very good post. But do you follow all this in your real life…? We are all aware of the theory, how much do we follow is what my question is directed at.
Oh and I don’t agree with your stand on recreation in our religion. To enjoy is not haram in Islam.
