no suicide attacks...one tv channel(less beyhayayi)....peace in tribal areas....we were not scared to get out of our homes....cricketers would not chew balls...we would not hear ugly news after every 5 minutes on the channel....Pakistan was beautiful in 90s....etc etc...
hmm ya even Karachi.....there were some sectarian issues that we used to hear about but stillllll things were much much much better than today....
were you some where in hibernation in 90's?
Karachi, Punjab were burnt with sectarian violence. Jhang was completely destroyed... Tribal Area's were as hot as they are today, the only difference was Pakistan government never try to establish writ of state in those areas in 90's.
thousands of women were killed on the name of "izat" all over Pakistan and it was accepted on the name of so called religion.
today you are crying here about 90's because their wasn't any media freedom at that time, their wasn't any 30 channels give you so much information that you can't even digest...

so the issue is you were living in cave in 90's, coz the so-called beyhayai was present at that time too. the stage shows with stage dances were running all over Punjab, The diamond market (heera mundi) in lahore was as vibrant as it is today ..
ladies were wearing pants in posh area's of Isb, Lhr, khr.. i don't see any difference except this is showing on tv what actually happening on ground from 60 years !
It seems like everyone is turning into the ultra-liberal nangey-pungey kanjar-mirasi types or the hardcore-fanatical types.
Where did all the real Pakis go? Who were conservative without being fanatical and liberal without being bayhayaa?
I miss my Pakistan, the Pakistan of contradictions where the local Mullah and Madam Noor Jehan/Ustad NFAK were equally part of the picture.
:(
Zia ul Haq happened who used the religion card
certain others before and after him used ethnicity card.
and then you had yet other people who used sectarian card
it was modern in the 60s, but it ws also fairly liberal, you had clubs, places with belly dancing, heck we almost had a huge casino open up.
but the point was, you can do what you want.
it was actually a big tourism destination at the time..backpackers descending upon karachi and then going inland..to northern areas and all.
there was bayhayai, as you call it, but ppl were not forcefed that by media, similarly there were very conservative pockets but they did not force their views on people. at one time groups like jamat e islami were not political parties..
read a lot about it.
where is arjay bhai when u need him, he has seen all of it and can give a firs hand account of the way things were.
