Where did/does your newborn sleep?

So I was wondering, those of you who breastfe(e)d your babies:

Did/does the baby sleep in your room since birth or in their own room?
I am asking because I am planning to insh’allah breastfeed my baby but am also determined to have the baby sleep in it’s own bed as early as possible. I don’t know how it works though? Obviously I will have to get out of bed at ‘fixed’ feeding times and also whenever the baby cries. I was thinking maybe I could have a bassinet next to me so that the baby is close?!

What worked for you? And if the baby did sleep with in your bedroom how long did he/she stay there?

Thanx :flower1:

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

I never breastfed, but he slept in bed with me or my mom. He wasn't too keen on his bassinet ... and now he's in a crib, but he's still in the same room as me.

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

bassinet right next to me in our room. we haven't transferred her into her own room yet.

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

btw i've tried the lying down nursing a few times in the middle of the night. it's nice, but i don't do it regularly as i'm not able to keep track of whether or not she's feeding (i tend to fall asleep). luckily i don't need to get up in the middle of the night regularly anymore.

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

I am breastfeeding and the baby is sleeping in her crib in our room.
She is just a few days old and I am still trying to figure out what will work best for both of us.My concern mainly is the husband who wakes up every time the baby is up and then it becomes hard for him on days when he is working pretty long hours.

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

^ same with my hubby, but he refuses to sleep in the comfy guest room. he says his mind would be with us and he won't get any rest.

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

^ Aww that's so sweet of him! I'm worried about the hubby too (waking him up) but I guess keeping the baby with you at first would be the best.

Chips; congratulations with your baby mash'allah :-)

Same here…Does it sound bad if I say that he is the one who wakes up first even at the tiniest sound from the baby while I take a few more moments…:bummer:..??

Shinoo…Thanks…

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

^nope. you're the one who has to stay up :D

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

Initially she slept in our room with the crib next to our bed and one railing down. We eventually moved her crib to her room and she naps their regularly now. BUT unfortuantely she still wakes up several times a night so after experimenting different things, we bring her in our bed next to me when she wakes up in the middle of the night while hubs sleeps on the floor. This is the only way i am getting some sleep since it ws getting to be really exhausting to wake up every 2 hours and console her by going in her room. So do what works best for you but initially i think its better to keep the baby not too far from you so you can feed while laying down if need be. And i would suggest dont do fixed feedings at night. Follow your baby's cue. If he/she wakes up to eat, feed them but dont wake them up to feed.

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

we wanted aariz to sleep with us in our bed (we have a king size so plenty of room).. we got him a lil shall i say.. its like a box u put on teh bed for a newborn baby.. with raised sides... but i just wasnt comfy. i dont know why... so i took him out of it and put him in teh middle justlike that... first night i did it.. i nearly crushed him..

so then we put his bassinet next to our bed and that is where he slept until 6 months... the frequent waking up .. we didnt put him in his own room.. couldnt be bothered to walk back and forth between rooms in teh dead of night.. especially soon after delivery...

at 6 months.. we kicked him out.. he was a light light light sleeper and since we live with in laws, we needed our privacy in teh room and the talking or watchign tv was waking him up for useless feeds ... he loves sleeping alone in his own room...

my friend who breastfeeds.. was finding it really hard to keep her son sleeping through the night even though he was 7 months and on solids... then she realized its the smell of her milk ... so tey took kicked their baby outta the room.. he sleeps through the night now :D haha... babies are funny.

as for fixed feedings.. i agree with ira... i cant stress on this point enough shinoo... there is no such things as fixed when u have a baby... i went crazy cuz i thought i could fix schedule for everything.. it nearly gave me depression...

babies are the boss.. u follow its cue.. especially for the first 6 months...

Our baby is in our room, in his moses basket/bassinet.

I’m like that…i’m a heavy sleeper but it’s hard for me to get to sleep… so once i’m gone, i’m well and truly gone! Usually, when i get up, Mr is already feeding the baby :hehe:

And congrats on the kidlet :hugz:

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

regarding fixed feedings, the hospitals and doctors did say you have to wake newborns up to feed every 3 hours, at least until they gain back their birth weight (or until they hit their due date if they were early). and then of course at any other time they seem hungry.

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

MY baby refused her bed, infact both of my kids refused their bed and sleept with me in our king size bed.
(As soon as I put her in her bed, she acts like electricity has hit her :-o)

Its easier for me to feed, as I hate hate HATE waking up in night to feed, I feed her by lying, so both us are sleep, she drinks whils she is sleep and i sleep and when she is finishes I just pull her to her side so that there is enough room for me.

Hubby doesnt wake up as she doesnt get to crying , i know when she is moving around looking for me, that she wants to be breastfeed.

why should i make my life difficult by getting up and getting her from her bed feeding her and then putting her back, by that time i will be awake an will not be able to sleep and look like a zombie the next day.

this works for us . . I am waiting her to be one year old and so we shall put both girls in their room and beds.

babies are small only once nad i love to have her with me .. it gives us both comfort.

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

Thanks for your input girls! I'm going to inform about breastfeeding classes. I want to be as prepared as can be (though I realise you can never be too prepared).

For now I think we'll go for a bassinett next to me.

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

my kids slept in a cradle in our room, but when It is feeding me and baby would move into the guest room,if I fall asleep I would sleep in that room,if Im awake I move back into my room.

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

This is a good thread. We are wondering the same thing, I really want our baby to sleep in his crib in his own room. I am planning to sleep in the baby's room so it's easier for me to get up to feed. I want hubby to sleep in the master bedroom so his sleep isn't disturbed, let's see what works out. :)

For those of you who haven't moved your baby in his/her own room at what age will you do that?

Also at what age do you hink it becomes absoloutly nessessary for the baby to have their own room?

Re: Where did/does your newborn sleep?

In a cradle....on tree top. :p

I'm kidding, don't have any kids. But couldn't resist, lol.
