Not sure yet but if we get married in pakistan then probably do Umrah first and then Aruba. I am surprised no one mentioned that.
we didn't go anywhere 'BIG' during first year of our wedding because 1) it wasn't in our budget and 2) we were too tired and didn't want to be rushed...this is our second year so we are planning a mini vacation to Canada in the Spring break and a more exciting vacation to Grand Canyon, AZ in May and then planning for a bigger vacation at the end of the year to Saudi, Dubai and Pakistan. Too much traveling I know but I'm really excited. I'm so glad we waited! :)
Should have listened to our mamas and married doctors..lol just kidding!
Same here with family, budget, job, not having rukhsati planned or vacation planned in advance and everything else I doubt we ware gonna be able to go right away but it doesnt matter. I think at this point its more imp for us to be together than take a vacation.
Re: Where are you going on your honeymoon?
It would have to be Europe!

Re: Where are you going on your honeymoon?
well here is a little blurb i wrote about fiji it was AMAZING
Heyy, so as you know I just got back from my honeymoon in Fiji. I have been meaning to describe my experience in Fiji for a few days now but it is hard to explain what I felt there. I've asked Sameer many times already to write down something descriptive, creative, and witty describing our Fiji experience but he refuses as it is far too much pressure for him when he is asked to write something. A WORD OF ADVICE- NEVER ask a writer to write something. While being married to a writer has its benefits (letters written to you will always be stunningly moving), asking a writer to do what he does is useless....really it is.
So you will have to deal with my writing for now. In one word Fiji was beautiful. I have wanted to go to Fiji for as long as I can remember. I heard it was pristine, untouched, and like a slice of paradise on earth. Of course, being married to Sameer my wishes always come true and we agreed to go to Fiji. Not to sound too cheesy,lovey-dovey and gross or anything but when I met Sameer I knew Allah sent him to me as a gift, he was exactly what I have always wanted. He is deep, intelligent, thoughtful and knows me inside and out. Ever since then he has made all my wishes come true, he has brought me close to his beautiful family, we live in an amazing apartment, and I get to spend time with him watching reruns of Mary Tyler Moore. OK IM DONE i know that made you barf.
Anyway, back to Fiji...when we arrived in Fiji it was 4am, we were picked up by a taxi driver named Pilu. Pilu is a 5th generation Fijian Indian who was excited when Sameer attempted speaking in broken hindi to him. I didn't pay much attention to the conversation with Pilu because I was so memorized by the view from the window during the ride to the hotel. It was warm, beautiful (tons of greenery) and people were walking around with such a slow ease in their step, like nothing was going to harm them. In a lot of ways it felt like Pakistan which was comforting. There were villages, there was that lazy "its always summer" feel to it that made me feel so relaxed. I liked knowing that there were people around that looked somewhat like us. Later in the vacation we benefited from looking like semi locals a lot. We got to sit in the front seat of buses (much more comfortable then standing in the back), we got free rides to town, and we got to drink chai twice on our way to our river trip. I enjoyed our ride there and still think of it as one of the most memorable events in fiji.
In fiji they have this concept called "fiji time". Basically time in fiji is slow, things go slow, nothing is expected to happen fast, and that is okay. This is great because REALLY each hour felt like 5 hours, this is a big contrast from our lives in LA where I always feel like time is escaping me and I just cannot hold onto it. However, expect to wait a long time for your food, bus rides, and anything else dealing with customer service in fiji as all workers are on "fiji time" as well.
Our hotel was gorgeous, we got upgraded for free as we are starwood gold members (thanks to my savvy sister in laws tips). The room was on the first floor and was an oceanfront, like LITERALLY WHEN WE OPENED our door we were on the beach. STUNNING and what I have always wanted. I was also greeted with a seriously breathtaking flower arrangement that Sameer had ordered for me, but hydrangeas, orchids, omg just so nice.
So we decided to get the full honeymoon experience. We know people don't consider us the adventurous types but we kind of pushed ourselves this honeymoon. We went kayaking, jet skiing, white water rafting through the most stunning river in the universe, hiking, and scuba diving. We also ate a lot, lied around on private islands getting tans, and drank every sort of non alcoholic cocktail imaginable.
When we went on our river tour we saw 56 waterfalls, we also fell into half of them. Just kidding not half, but we fell off the raft a few times. At one point I saved Sameers life. DONT WORRY HE IS OKAY. It was funny because I have this story with my friends about how I am incredibly selfish when it comes to life threatening events but when me and sameer fell out of our rafts the first time, ALL I COULD THINK WAS "SAVE SAMEER NOW". I know it's silly, I'm a woman, he is the man, we have life jackets on, nothing will happen but I could not think of anything else. I just thought that if I lost him life would be over so iI grabbed him by his chest and pulled him to the raft and kept yelling "HOLD ONTO IT NOW!!!" all this was really comical to the people in the raft because once we both got back in, thanks to our guide Pedro (who I believe is half monkey and I'm not saying that bec. he's black ;) ), everyone was laughing. Sameer fell in another time and after that I was laughing the entire 5 hour tour. Yeah, we rafted for 5 hours, I'm ripped now. It was exhilirating but my favorite parts were seeing the villages as we rafted through the river. We were greeted by little kids from the village saying "bula, bula, bula" over and over again. it was just so incredibly cute and fascinating to try and figure out how they lived. Pedro said that he had been swimming in that river since he was little, IMAGINE A LIFE LIKE THAT!
Scuba Diving was awesome . At first we were freaked out. We did it in a very non legit way. Basically a 20 year old diver boy from south africa said "its easy lets go dive" and we signed up with him and went straight into the water. No classes, no lessons, just a brief 5 minute description of what we should do. Needless to say Sameer and I were more than scared the first 10 minutes in the water. It was really hard to trust the breathing apparatus stuck to us and I kept instinctively holding my breath. When I finally let go it was like I was in another world. I never felt so calm and in awe at the same time. We saw pools of all different kinds of fish, blue starfish, those glowing fish, the best coral in the world, etc. I want to live underwater now.
Okay, so through pictures and through my really bad descriptions I have established that fiji was aesthetically beautifu. But the most beautiful aspect of fiji is not their pristine waters, their waterfalls, slands, or hills it is the "feeling" of the people in fiji. I don't want to exoticize or romanticize them, I know I shouldn't but really it is in the air of fiji. Or at least it was on this trip for me. EVERYONE says Bula to you. I thought it was only a tourist thing but when I went to Nadi (the town) children were yelling "Bula!!" to us from their buses, they were conversation with me through the bus rides, they would take pictures with us, allow us to be a part of their life. Not only the kids but everyone was this way. I don't think it was because we were tourists, many times they thought we were local Indian-Fijians and treated us the same way. Even the shoe shiners were so genuinely friendly and loving. We made friends with a charming waiter who is our age named Leslie (i swear, he is my facebook friend now!!).
It is not just that they were nice it is something about the people and the weather and their souls that creates a peaceful place in my heart. I am an anxious person and I worry a lot. I am always worried about something, thinking about what to do next or what I did not do yet or what someone is thinking but in that trip I felt like life was not leaving me but that I was a part of it. I know it was my honeymoon and that is how you are supposed to feel but I have vacationed before and Fiji feels different. Fiji feels like a beautiful, more paradise-like Pakistan. The people are more like the people in Pakistan and the surroundings are well GORGEOUS. It is unique. Sameer feels the same way, we will definitely buy a house in Fiji i'A within our lifetime. It will be our "go back to" spot in the future and it will be a place I take my future children to time and again. They will play with the Australian and New Zealander children there at night while me and Sameer have dinner on the beach. I don't know if Fiji will be the same as it was for us this time but I have a feeling it will just get better.
PS there is tons more of what we did in Fiji and pictures to come <3 LOVE YOU ALL (mostly)
