Just a random question…

Do you open it right away in front of the person or do you wait until they’re gone?

It depends. If I'm at a place with a lot of people around (like a dawat), I'll wait to open it. If someone comes to meet me (outside a dawat setting), then I might open it when I receive it.

Depends on if I expect a meaningful , expensive and thoughtful gift to come out of the box , or it is going to be useless, redundant and cheap gift. I am good at hiding my real feelings and expressions so no harms is done in second scenario. :D

for non desis and my close friends n family.. right away, thats how they like it!!

for other desis.. later.. sometimes they dun want you to open their recyclde gift :cb:

if i can tell or know its a recycles/old/ gift i open it infront of them and sayyyy ohhhh i saw this in the sale the other day for a pound..( thats 50 cents i think ).....

ok i only did this once. cos i didnt like the giver.

Not very nice to embarrass someone that way regardless of how you feel about the giver. A gift is just that - it is not an entitlement.

As for the question, if I know the person wants me to open it then and there, I will. But otherwise, I'll wait until I get home.

there is a reason why i didnt like her. she moans her head off at the cheapness of the gifts she gets, my mum bought her a xpensive suit, however she moaned at the colour and threw it back in my mums face, she has a habit of giving people pound store items...things that cost a pound and saying its worth more......like we dnt ever visit the pound store....!

Okay, I take back what I said. If the other person is a mean gifter and an ungracious gift getter, in this situation they make actually deserve to be called to account for the gift they gave.

Anyways I was just asking.

Normmally I have seen ppl open their gifts right away. But we gave a gift to some one a week ago and I know full well that the thing is sitting in the closet untouched and unopened. So was just wondering how do ppl do it.

I open gifts in front of sender. Sometimes its really difficult to hide your disappointment when a gift is not according to your expectations but i am good in it :D

When it's one on one, I open it in front of the gift giver. I think it's nice to open it and share the joy.

But it you don't like the gift, err that's a different story...one would need some acting skills.
