Each year we have many people open individual threads asking when Eid is in their town. Many times their threads get responses but sometimes their threads never get an answer and are pushed down the page.
The idea of this thread is that we all can ask questions in this thread regarding when a particular town is celebrating Eid and others that have confirmation can post replies here or post links to sites announcing the Eid day in that town. That way this thread will have questions about **as many as possible **towns and hopefully nobody’s question will get ignored simply because newer threads appeared on top.
With that said, please utilize this thread to check when your peers are celebrating Eid in your/their towns.
A few websites that you can check to see when Eid will be in USA (ICNA & ISNA) and your country (moon sighting link):
[note]If there are any other sites to confirm Eid in other countries (i.e. I know Canada has their own website, perhaps UK does as well), please post those here. If you want, you can PM those sites to me and I can edit this post of mine and post the links with the ones I posted above. Thanks.[/note]
I just read the link of moon sighting (in Urdu) and they explained how due to the visibility of moon, Eid will be on Wednesday (in western countries) and it'll be on Thursday in eastern countries. That makes sense because sun rises first in east, that's why their time is ahead of US and moon rises in west first, so Eid will be in western countries one day before it is in eastern countries.
Eid in the UK will be on wednesday as there is no chance of moon being sighted.
However few masjid's which have claimed that eid will be tomorrow that's because they would like to follow the "Saudi" decision.
Other then that, due to my latest knowledge, ahle sunnat Wa'l jam'at in the UK shall be celebrating eid in the UK on wednesday, but dekho dekho agay kya hota hai.
Ghamgol Shareef, Birmingham has given announcement for Wednesday. Birmingham Central Mosque will be doing Eid Wednesday. **
Official Provisional Decision & Announcement regarding 'Id al-Fitr 1429 in the UK**
*The Markazi Jama'at-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat, UK & Europe on behalf of the Ruyat-e-Hilal Board of the British Muslim Forum has announced that 'Id al-Fitr 1429 in the UK will provisionally occur on Wednesday 1st October 2008.
*We have to follow ru'ya, and even for those who believe in eastern global sighting (ittahad al-matalay) Eid is on Wednesday. For those few who insist on local sighting (ikhtilaf al-matalay) they can wait for Eid until Thursday, as the UK is so far from equator that it won't be visible until Wednesday's maghrib. As for those who are doing Eid tomorrow, they should know that it is astronomically wrong (though the burden of sin is not on individuals in this case). The moon only completed the lunation this morning around 8am. The moon is as a rule never visible the first night, so it will be visible only tomorrow at maghrib in large parts of the globe (Australia, India, Yemen/Oman, South and East Africa, and Florida and the Sourthern states in the USA). This makes Wednesday the 1st of Shawwal and the day of Eid.
