Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
I agree overall with what CM said.......but the issue is not limited to coconuts......there are a LOT of 'local brown caucasians' aka 'kaalay angraiz' here in pakistan too.........who seem to be bitten by 'enlightened moderation' bug................
the biggest issue such people have is not being able to reconcile the general viewpoint of the society and religion they (attempt to) follow........and within a few minutes.......we get the famous line
"its between me and my god"...."to each their own"......
Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
See if I was a woman, I would just glare, give you this evil look like I could go all shining on your ass and storm off. But thankfully Allah in his glory made me a pompous man. So yeah I am happy. :D
Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
Seriously....I think they are worse than the Taliban some times and GS is riff with them. They twist and turn religion to fit their own personal views, because they have an identity issue. You will hear Pakistanis or Muslims in the west saying Homosexuality is acceptable in Islam.
Its ****ing Wajab-ul-Katal. How can it be Halal when we are ordered to kill homosexuals? Or dating. Dating is haram. No ifs or buts about it. You can not hang out with a na mehram for no reason in a private setting.
Then other issues, like clothing, social life, ethics etc etc. They twist and turn religion to make it fit their personal view point, oddly enough just like the Taliban do. The Express Tribune is a stellar example of such people but GS has a few.
So why do people attempt to abuse Islam? Makes them sleep better at night? Eases their guilt?
Thats just it, people like to make themselves feel better so they mend things as they fit their lifestyle. whats halaal is halaal and whats haraam is haraam. If you do something wrong, fine thats between you and your lord but don't start saying that it's an okay thing to do when it's not. It's too bad because Islam is such a pure religion
Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
Man I am by no means a kala angraiz, but I do believe in 'to each their own' and 'between a person and his god'. But I never claim to be a champion of religion, or to have a good understanding of religion. Not that I am proud of not having much knowledge on the subject, everybody should, but yeah that is the way I am. Call it lack of sufficient knowledge or whatever, but I focus more on the humanity side of it, what matters to me is how you conduct your behavious/business with other human beings, and the only thing I will frown upon is if something is hurting another human, provided he never caused you any harm.
If someone is homosexual, atheist or worships red gummy bears, its their business and not mine. I will not justify their acts by twisting and turning the rulings of islam, but I won't let all that bother me neither. What bothers me is what causes harm to other humans, physical or otherwise. And what bothers me like nothing else is people who will whip out a couple of ayahs here and a couple of ahadeeth there when it comes to complex matters like inheritence and sex between married couples, and then they will go around treating people like sh!t. Anyway man, enough of my hippie drivel, but yeah if I can only manage to handle my business as a decent human being, I would go a happy man. Can't really do much if I am hell bound because I missed out on the rituals and the specifics.
Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
I Dont mind people questioning grey areas - or the stuff which they think is clearly out of the commandments , No religion stops you doing that !
But what about clear Black and white stuff -
sometimes I wonder if these people have really gone under a paternity test - the check who is their daddy .... I mean why take you mother's words for it ... why go for the evidence that he lives with you ...
get a bloody scientific proof .... and hang it on the wall !

yes...i do not follow the religion to the extend i want to......but about the 'to each their own' n stuff.....if someone is trying to educate others (not whipping ayats n hadeeth....and not being hypocritical about it ) i respect that...and that also counts as part of 'to each their own'.......and i believe that its not wrong if someone has something contstructive to advise to others n does so in a non instrusive manner....
but there is this other thing you said.......you own up to the fact that you are not following the religion........the main issue being addressed is the fact that people don't own up to their lack of religiousness......they make excuses n justifications n stuff.............thats just BS...
Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
Dude you are hell bound not for any of your antics. But because you live in Dubai. Seriously....what were you thinking? You can't even watch porn there! I for one agree with you and Nomi. Nobody has an issue with do whatever you bloody well please as long as you don't misrepresent and malign the faith.
You are gay? Great. Are you Muslim? Nope.
Do you drink? Good for you. Are you committing a sin? Yup. You okay with that? Good for you. Just don't play the bull**** card and say its acceptable.
General policy is if you are being a faithless prick, don't put a personal weakness on the religion. And Nomi is right. I see this in Pakistan all the time.

Makes sense.
You go to religious forum and see what people really ask at times, as if they do not know.
Some ask what the origin of God is and yet.........I mean the paternity test never occured to them. :D

true. why is it considered as forcing your viewpoint on someone only when it's something religious... just when someone brings in their stand on a religious basis (even with all the references)... why does it become so hard to swallow...

its kaala angraiz syndrome usually.......if there is social issue then the disagreement is taken as a disagreement but on religious issues tha 'molvi alarm' starts to ring...and people get upset usually........because it exposes them to their own misgivings which they 'believe' to be islamically correct...
but on the flipside......i also see a LOT of people pulling arguments n 'references' only in certain matters......and they talk as if they are 'certain' what those references mean and they believe and impose the opinions of their own 'molvi' as final authority...........thats just BS too.......
Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
Your zeal is a bit overbearing, but I agree with your post and comments.
People need to own up. Finding loopholes to justify one's actions is just too convenient to be acceptable in Islam.
Like: Polygamy is allowed. Take it or leave it. Don't make it sound impossible (and therefore, unacceptable) by getting hung up on the word 'justice'.
And of course, plenty more examples.
Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
For me its not about not being able to digest advice that is based on/supported by religion. My thing is, before you whip out your advice, just ask yourself if you follow the same. Do you walk the walk or just talk the talk. You would say a good word is a good word, I believe that, and I do appreciate good advice. But when some of these religious types take the monumental responsibility of being the shepherd of the whole ummah i.e. constantly riding your ass with fatway and references, I do get annoyed. I shouldn't mention names, but I really appreciated this Submission to Peace guy, he would often post an inspiring incident here and there, I would read it and think about it, and take something positive from it. But then he whips out his alter egos RAW and Gogo, and jumps into every thread, throwing people's jokes in their faces, telling them how polluted and impure their minds are, and starts fitting their mothers and sisters into common jokes that people share for a laugh, now THAT **** is annoying. The result? I start to detest this guy and even his good advice goes does the drain for me. I mean by all means do convey the good message and do offer good advice, but FFS stop being in people's grill all the time. Whats with the self righteousness? Mind your own business and let people mind their own business.

Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
:k: We get hurt easy when someone talks about religion.
Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?

Pakistan is a weird place man. Sometimes I think the overenthusiasm of mullahs in Pakistan and Zia's draconian 'Islamic' laws have driven a proportion of the population to simply rebel against true religion and made them derive the enlightened outlook to justify their actions.
Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
Those who criticise our every move in the name of religion and those who get a stroke every time someone mentions religion - I find both extremes equally disturbing.
Re: Whats with coconuts and religion?
Obviously they do not have as strong a grasp on Islam as you do.
He's not saying he's any more religious than those people. He's just saying when you fail to admit you're wrong and try and bend religion to suit yourself.
I'm probably hell bound lol but I make no excuses for my deeds and I know I'm in the wrong. I don't pretend what I do is okay or whatever.
