Hamid Mir, ISI, Musharraf
Every damn person, online, offline is talking about it over and over and over again. All over the TV too.
Gah!!!
How does any of this affect anyone’s life? Really the issues of national importance?

Craziness*
Do the madness some justice. ![]()
Re: whats this crazyiness?
Hamid Mir shot at Karachi.I.S.I hand speculated.(?) Ofcourse it is a national news.It might not affect anybody’s life but should it be mandatory that all the issues that happen should affect people by anyway? It is an area of topic that needs to be discussed.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
And hardly anyone is discussing elections in India.
ISI is a soft target these days.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
I agree with OP. We should be discussing the environment wrt climate change mitigation approaches.
PS who is Hamid Mir?
Re: whats this crazyiness?
Was reading Wednesday paper. Happened to run into Hamid Mir news. The shooting happened Saturday. Some organizations are under suspicion. It appears Mr. Mir was under some orgs hit list. I fail to see why this is not newsworthy.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
^ I don’t think Pwner (as well as everyone else who is fed up with hearing about Hamid Mir) is stating that the incident isn’t newsworthy but rather that he is irritated by the fact that everyone is so fixated on it as if it affected them personally. I suspect that many of the people who are fixated and intent on discussing the Hamid Mir incident to death are the sort who usually show no interest in politics or current events, making their interest come across as a bit pretentious and superficial.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
Ok. I didn’t even know who Hamid Mir was.
I don’t get the as if affecting them personally part. If there is a topic that interests a person then they talk abt it. If they are passionate abt it they discuss it with great interest.
Who r these people who r taking interest in this story but usually show no interest in current t events? Is he talking abt people here or elsewhere?
A tangential point. There was a MEME made abt those who don’t post abt environment do care abt it. By same token those who don’t care abt current events may want to know who tried to kill a journalist.
Since we r extrapolating OP’S intent it seems OP is for some reason would like this story to go away. What that reason is - we need to get to bottom. Especially since it’s a slow news day in gs
Re: whats this crazyiness?
You didn’t need to say more.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
You know, the sort of people who are rather overzealous and will shout you down if you disagree with their theories about the incident. Some people seem to be angrier than Hamid Mir himself regarding the whole episode. One would think they, themselves, were the victims of an assassination plot.
I believe he means people in general as he did say everyone online and offline (who I took to mean people he knows in everyday life).
Yes, you’re quite right. There are people who, despite never mentioning it, are very interested in a certain subject. However, I think it’s rather unlikely that every Tom, Dick, and Harry who is suddenly so terribly interested in the Hamid Mir thing was interested all along but just never mentioned it until now.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
May I just add this is a newsworthy story. And u r protesting too much?
Story is only a.week old. The Taliban may be involved. They were known to have made him a marked man. Clearly these are matters of national and international importance. Re ur question "how it affects their personal life, that is very complex. There could be a range that people fall into.
Some would be incensed that such a thing happened.
Some would be concerned such a thing happened.
Some would be concerned and incensed that this happened. And brainstorm ways of avoiding it.
And then there is a category of people. That reprimands people for talking too much about this. That decides this is not of national (let alone international importance. That asks how it affects their personal life.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
Looks like there is more to it than meets the eye.
per the apr 23 WSJ, the military demanded the government close down GEO TV channel after the latter aired that the ISI was behind the shooting. GEO TV rival channels support the shutdown!!
Now let us pause for a minute. This attempt to shut down news outlets SHOULD concern people. They Should take it personally. It does affect nationally and internationally.
“Mr Mir the country s best known news anchor is at the top of the Pakistan Taliban s hit list”. It seems this group formerly known as TTP has “repeatedly attacked the press and featured Mr. MIRS picture on its declaration of war against the media”.
Any right minded person would take such thuggery personally. And would talk abt it. Especially when the news is barely over one week old.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
Or the I.S.I makes it’s target soft? ![]()
Re: whats this crazyiness?
They aired unsubstantiated mud slinging garbage IMO. In most countries the channel would be shut down, if not face serious consequences. Can you imagine what would happen to Fox News or BBC if within hours of an incident they start to blame and malign their own country’s security services?
There should be free media, absolutely but that comes with responsibility. Have a proper investigation and if after that its proved that it was the ISI then by all means give as many headlines as possible, but that’s not what they did. Geo trots out the excuse of ‘being immature’, but in a country which is plagued with violence and anger at the establishment airing such unsubstantiated views is highly iiresponsible. Not good enough.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
Agreed. Not an expert in this issue. All I know is what I read in WSJ
Re: whats this crazyiness?
Oh, I don’t know, maybe it’s their *** country?!
Re: whats this crazyiness?
You can not expect to have media talks after investigations are carried out or until the results of such probes are out.If calls for free media are there,it should be done with full freedom .
Again, the way **SOMEBODY** used ARY and Express to level allegations against GEO/Jang was a remarkable one, after Hamid Mir incident.Since Mr.Mir has reiterated his statement that he holds the I.S.I responsible for the attack(and also taking many other things in to account),the agency is in the spectrum of doubt only.Hope he will be back to `capital talk' very soon.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
What’s wrong with expecting the media to talk AFTER investigations? Its common sense and also shows media being responsible by waiting for all the facts and after which then reporting it thus fulfilling their role as being impartial and ‘free’ at the same time.
Any common sense outlet should otherwise know that throwing out unproven claims will open them up for potential litigation and as I said in a country which is seeing increasing polarisation for and vs security forces such reporting is extremely careless and irresponsible.
Re: whats this crazyiness?
If you are in Pakistan, it has affected you already… personally. The adventures of ‘security agencies’ has helped shape up current Pakistan A LOT.
Who won Pakistan Idol… well, that’s what you might call a trivial issue.
