im married a bengali...and pple saying that all bengali weddings are boring is freakin scaring me! lol.
I went to one bengali wedding..it was the longest wedding ever! the guests had to be there in the late afternoon and they did the nikkah in the hall.....it was set up with rows of chairs all facing the stage and an aisle in the middle....it was nice and decent. Then the bride came out....OMG....i personally did not like how she looked....but to each their own...too red..too gold...just...shudder....
so that took an hour or two..then all the guests had to go the hall reception/foyer area, while the hall pple had to change the ENTIRE set up to include tables and dance floors....GRRR...that did it for me....number one..there were hundreds of pple standing around the foyer (they had no chairs) and they were giving out appetizers (standing with a plate of somasas, pakoras, kebabs, plus holding ur drink and managing a saree is a pain..:S)...second....the people staring and talking about me (since i was the new bride and pple wondering who i was)...one woman looked and me and gave me the "up and down"....i wanted to step on her pallu. Anyways, we were stuck in the foyer for a good 2 hours!
finally it was time for us to go back it....and then the speeches began.....then the slideshow..and then dinner..pple do not know what a line is..grrr....oh yeah...the bride changed into a complete different outfit with differetn hair and makeup..she looked 10x better, but showed too much skin...(no one wants to see ur mid-drift). but nevertheless a big improvement.
then it was time for the dances.....ok i was thinking bengali music..then they hit it up bhangra and hindi songs....THAT was the highlight of the night for me :). The bride and groom actually practised a dance routine to a hindi song....just when things were finally starting to get down and fun, we had to leave :(..lol...my inlaws are conservative when it comes to dancing...lol.
