Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

Pakistan should not be obsessed with Whatmore. Rather they should look for what more is out there. A low profile but skilled and hard working coach is what PCB really needs. And I think some statements from Ashraf indicated that they are thinking along the same lines.

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan’s wish list

Somebody known to The Telegraph called Dav Whatmore around 7 pm on Saturday at the Peninsula Hotel. Without waiting for the caller to speak, Bangladesh’s outgoing coach chirpily said “hello Niranjan…” (The Telegraph)

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

^ Although my gut keeps telling me that I can't believe Indian Media, the overwhelming facts do suggests that Mr. Whatmore is super strongly interested in coaching Team Tiranga.
Funny though, if it really happened. Another good reason why Pakistan should not consider him, even if he does not sign with India.

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan’s wish list

Yes…I did read it when it was posted on Cricinfo.

However, something tells me Whatmore will not be India’s next coach…and it is just as well.

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan’s wish list

:k: very good point indeed! People like him will always look for greener pasture and Pakistan needs a coach who’s into the role of a mentor for a long-term and not just a guy who can win a series or two for Pakistan. His contribution in making Bengladesh a competitive team is definitely comendable, but one can hardly ignore the fact that the guy was an unknown prior to Bangladesh delivering the goods.

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

really ? Whatmore coached Sri Lanka to World Cup victory before being appointed BD coach.

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan’s wish list

Who tu ghar ki baat thee.. Whatmore madrasi coached his home country to win is like Madan Lal winning the next world cup for poorest athletes where a medium pacer bowls his fastest delivery at 50 mph/sec on strength of daal and bhindi he ate last night :hehe:

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

You are wrong my friend, the whole cricketing world knew him since the time he guided Lankan winning their WC title in 1996. Not only that but he later helped Lancahsire winning county trophies. Infact by the time he joined BD tean as their coach, he was already considered one of the best cricket coaches in the world.

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

I might be wrong on that one but if you and some1 are right (and I believe both u r), then the guy's resume is impressive- steering an erstwhile average team(Sri Lanka) to world cup victory and helping a sub-standard side(bangladesh) play competitive teams and defeat them.. Then.. my quesion is- why is Pakistan reluctant to have him on the board?

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

I sincerely think that Pakistan needs a authoritative no-nonsense coach like Greg Chappel....somebody who can enforce discipline with a danda. The only catch however is that he should be given a free hand to do this by the PCB (unlike what Chappel got from BCCI). I am convinced that the personality of the would-be Coach would matter as much as his coaching skills.

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

We Need an Army General coaching the Pakistan Cricket team

only he will have the balls to control these players

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

So much focus is given to the international/ foreign coach(s) I wonder if the local coach(s) are feeling jittery, whether they will be considered on merit for the job.

Oh by the way whatever happened to the so called constitution?

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan’s wish list

hayn? :konfused:

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

the last thing we heard from Naseem Ashraf was couple of days ago when he said that the constitution is held by attorney general who is waiting for president's approval. Once that happens it will be implemented.

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan’s wish list

^ President Musharraf approving a constitution … :rotfl:

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

Good Point:)

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan’s wish list

Whatmore is now Pakistan’s for the taking.
He is now “officially” ruled out for the job of India’s coach.

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

Arjuna Ranatunga is now in the race to becoming India's coach. That too me would be the final nail in India's cricket coffin during the first decade of the 21st century. He is a typical desi politician.

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

^Looks like they just updated that Cricinfo article with Arjun Ranatunga's name.

Wow...!! Ranatunga of all the people. I would prefer any third-class ex-Indian player over him....

Re: Whatmore tops Pakistan's wish list

Will PCB also ditch Whatmore only because he has been shunned by BCCI or the PCB will still consider him from its own angle. Does thrown by one make him trash for all? Ye deikheiN ge dharawaik PCB meiN, Hum Log :)
