I see a lot of criticism about what went wrong but no solutions as to what the government should have done since the whole Lal Masjid Fiasco started some months back?
If your answer is that the Gen. should have invoked sharia law, eliminate all corruption, clamp down on promiscuity, eradicate poverty, educate masses, hold free and fair elections and then step down, you need a reality check. Serious answers only.
Government waited too long. Yesterday I saw one interview of Ahsan Iqbal, Imran Khan and Jehangir Badar from ARYone (on Utube, off course). Ahsan Iqbal said the right thing. He said that if it was a democratic government, this problem would have solved right after Aunty Shamim incident and a district magistrate would be enough to take care of that.
Musharraf waited too long, gave enough time to let non-Pakistani Islamic fanatics used this as an opportunity to corrupt the minds of Ghazi brothers further.
When Ghazi brothers began, they had only sticks to show off their power. On 3rd of July, we saw guns. This is the result of 6 month wait.
Even then, Abdul Aziz was not in favor of that because he was a qualified Aalim and knows the limits, conditions and obligations of Islam. That is why he escaped and they let him. Abdul Rashid, being a normal worldly person (who radically switched to Islam only few years ago and was not a qualified Aalim) got brain washed by these fundamentalists and allowed them to use his masjid and madrasas for their operation.
In the end, Government found no hostages, no major weapons or mass graves as earlier hyped by some officials. Yesterday’s Jang Akhbar articles talked about that.
The whole incident was mis-planned (or pre-planned, maybe). Whatever happened was very sad thing
No major weapons? You didn't' watch the display of weapons by army or you just don't believe them? They had more heavy weapons than an entire company of regular army troops have in Pakistan.

No seriously I did not watch that, I will (if it is on Utube, hehe... that is my only source of videos). But this is what it says in Jang article by Ansar Abbasi.
Yes, it's possible there were no or very few hostages as most of the people had been brainwashed, but it's also true that 1500 of them did escape before the operation started.

Govt is too soft.
I would have teargassed the place earlier especially when the morons were out in the open proesting in ninja outfits and with laathis in their hands.
simultaneously a warning that you want to live you surrender now, and then etll them in 15 mins the childrens library that they had taken over will be bombed..get out and surrender...they dont, boom goes the library....anyone in that bldg was not innocent, they were criminals who had taken over a building, so if they died, hey, no innocent ppl there...
..then announce, okay 20 mins jamia hafsia is being leveled, surrender now...by now they know military is not dicking around and anyone who does not come out and surrenders probably wanted to die anyways.
..then do to jamia faridia, do the same,...
Musharraf was too civil and too lenient on these scum.
the psychos across the nation were going to go apeshyt regardless...so might as well just get it done and over with.
if tariqlkhan was Gen. he would have sent a district magistrate after the Aunty Shamim incident. I am assuming to arrest those who kidnapped the Aunty?
Captain1 and Khehkeshan would you guys have done what Mushraff did or something different?

But do you agree that their were no hostages
if there were no hostages then why was media, ulema, mullahs, all talking about saving innocent ppl.
if ghazi knew that the people there were there of their own free will then he knew that him surrendering would save their lives, he did not.
quite simply put if the military knew that the ppl there were willing participants of the treason, and not hostages, we woukld not have lost some fine soldiers, and the forces could have just surrounded teh place with attack choppers and blown it to smithreens.
ghazi should have been tear gassed the day he was born!
Ok, not really, but I generally agree with fraudia here. Mush waited too long, while the useless "ulema" came and did nothing to persuade ghazi to stand down.
Fraudia Bhaijaan, are you talking about tear gas a week ago or are we talking about tear gas 6 months ago?
dude, the day these frikkin morons took over the bldg and all, I would have put my foot down hard on this crap.
I am not saying it just now, go back and read my posts from when the stupid ninjas took over teh bldg.
now no matter how much we whine about oh they were just brainwashed and did not know any better .. well ignorance is not an excuse. They were breaking the law, and they needed to get punished.
mullahs across the antion would have gone apeshyt at the sights of ninjas getting gassed and hit by rubber bullets, but that would have told the freaks early on not to get their mob mentality get any worse.
