In Islam, the concept of “Kafala”, which means “sponsorship” literally, is often confused with adoption. Islam allows **foster parenting, **as demonstrated by the beloved Prophet Mohamnad SAWS, when he freed Zaid from slavery and provided for him financially, spirituals, emotionally as you would a “son”. However, the conventional definition of “adoption”, where an orphan is taken as the biological child of the couple, and given the family name and included in inheritance and such is strictly forbidden.
It’s all about semantics I guess, and greatly depends on the law of the land you live in (Muslim country vs non Muslim country).
