Re: what would u think??
^^ Please, don't compare hijab with porn. They are two very different things.
Actually and ironically, they're actually very similar topics.
What is hijab? - Modesty.
Who does Allah first address when hijab is mentioned for the very first time in the Holy Quran in Surah Nur? - Men.
What does it say?- Lower your gaze.
Can't exactly watch porn and be deemed to be lowering your gaze now, can you?
Re: what would u think??
I don't mean to be rude but I need to say this because I keep reading stuff like "it doesn't happen in our culture"...Google ranks Pakistan **as the **TOP **country to seek access to porn sites. So **YES it **DOES **happen in our culture. And the rest of the top ten list is comprised of primarily Muslim countries. Humaray logon ne to garay ko bhi peechay chordiya because US isn't even on the damn list!
Good...now that that's cleared up. No one here said its okay to watch porn so I have no idea where you got that.
Which poster said it was okay to watch porn here? Who advocated porn here? I'd like an answer to that.
All that's being said is...its your marriage...your life...don't go into it with a blindfold on pretending these things don't happen because then you end up like the OP's "friend". They DO happen. It has NOTHING to do with Western countries or Pakistan or blah blah. A man is a man - doesn't matter what color he is or what language he speaks.
I didn't say it doesn't happen in our culture - a lot of filth unfortunately happens in our culture. If you look carefully I said it's not deemed as ACCEPTABLE in our culture, whereas in Western cultures it's totally acceptable. Ever seen an American sitcom like Friends? They laugh and joke about it all the time. Now imagine a Pakistani drama joking about porn - would never ever EVER happen.
Secondly, I'm not saying that the majority of people are advocating porn here; I'm saying that people generally seem to have the attitude that, 'everyone does it, so what's the big deal?' and my point is simply that if everyone is doing something wrong, it doesn't mean it's okay to therefore engage in it too!
Also, I only briefly mentioned culture, but actually my main point was religion. If the OP's friend is Muslim, then who cares what culture they are - what they're doing is wrong.
Re: what would u think??
Then what IS the point of saying 90% of men watch porn? Who cares what 90% of men do? What’s the point of saying that statistic? What does it prove?
The advice people are giving here is fine - I don’t have any objection to that. I was commenting on the fact I felt the attitude towards watching porn is extremely relaxed, what with comments like ‘everyone does it’ and ‘he’s a man, don’t be so surprised’. And to be honest I’m really rubbish with advice giving so wouldn’t know what to say if he carried on watching - I’m sure you all would be able to give better advice so would leave it to you! ![]()
Re: what would u think??
Nah, it needs some more clearing up :p. You're making a sweeping allegation on such a large group of diversified people without doing your own research. A group of people whose behavior cannot be deduced from a single, flawed, cherry-picked statistic. Sure, for the word "sex" Pakistan ranks right up there on the top, for pretty much every year. The word "sex" can have so many meanings, it can be searched for various reasons, and search results will yield sex advice, positions, sex education, health benefits, etc. The problem then is the word "porn"...which is more direct and leaves no room for ambiguity. If you head over to Google Trends and search the trends for the word "porn," you will see that the USA and UK made it to the top 10 each year. A person looking for porn will Google "porn," not "sex." Check Google Tends for the word "porn" and voila...Not only is Pakistan absent from the list every year before 2011, USA n UK have made it to the top 10 list without fail. Pakistan only showed up in the top 10 list for the word "porn" after 2010. The reason for this is that in 2011 porn sites were banned in Pakistan, naturally leading people to Google. It is also the reason for the sudden "spike" in Google stats for the word "proxy" in these years. A proxy is the only way they could access the banned websites. Taking into account that most Pakistani men don't get to have sex until they are married as opposed to the USA or UK where most have easy access to sex, we've done better than the West. I'm not justifying viewing of porn, it is haram...but have we really left the garay behind when a bigger sin like zina is not only easily accessible/rampant in the west but lauded as well?
These stats could be based on people simply trying to access educational websites?

So what if its unacceptable in our culture dude? Jahaiz is also acceptable in our culture as well as the caste system.
I am so confused by your posts - who is saying this? Where do you read this? Who says "everyone does it so what's the big deal"?
Sometimes its nice to get all fired up and yell out "ya haram haram" but other times a solution is more important.
Yeah, we all know its wrong...what now?
Re: what would u think??
What if they watch together? Where would you people stand on that?? ![]()
Re: what would u think??

My personal opinion is why Pakistan ranks so highly on google stats for search of 'sex' is because most people are not 'sophisticated' enough to know where to look for porn.
True story: A friend in school once very excitedly told me that a website called 'Altavista' (RIP) has lots of 'compromising' pictures of actresses.

All I am saying don't compare watching porn with women who do not wear hijab as in head scarf. From your first post it sounded as if you are not comparing the "big picture hijab" but the "head scarf hijab" with porn.
Re: what would u think??
What now?
“If You Live In The UK, You’ll Have To Tell Your Spouse That You Watch Porn”](David Cameron's Awkward Porn Ban - Business Insider)
BBC News - Online pornography to be blocked by default, PM announces
Who is Dave Cameron now - a Muslim or a Pakistani?
And please can people stop making sweeping generalization and false claims about Western countries. No pornongraphy is not deemed acceptable in the Western country I live, it’s a social evil but they just don’t use the word haram to condemn it.
what would u think??
People are getting fired up for no reason. No one agrees with it. That is common across the board but it is pointless to say "this is haram, that is haram" because the ops purpose for this thread was to try and find sound advice about what her friend should do in this situation. There are bigger problems in this world than a percentage of men (or woman) trying to access porn on the Internet. Plus, in pak I think they call them "blue movies" ... Don't know why, so no ones stats are right, just a general consensus. The whole point here was try and advise op for some kind of solution. The main purpose behind people saying most men watch porn was because OPs friend can't control her husbands actions and it wasn't condoning his actions but giving a rational perspective or approach to this scenario.
Everyone's throwing all these stats around, how many searches do you think came out for this stuff after this thread. Agreed with kakaballi.
Re: what would u think??
hey paapi, did the couples tell you they watch pron together :O
Re: what would u think??
I hope her situation gets better. But the funny thing is he's a so called company boss and yet he doesn't know there is a incognito window that doesn't save any type of browsing history. If he actually even watched it which is really really bad at least he should of been a bit smart about it. lol
Re: what would u think??
I like the advice about lecturing/explaining to the husband that porn is haram and one shouldn’t do it…LOL. Yeah, I am sure he had no idea it was something that’s bad ![]()
like Reha said, time to pull our heads out of the sand, acknowledge that there is a problem and come up with solutions, not lectures stating the obvious. This means addressing the root cause, whether it is problems with intimacy or whatever. I know plenty of guys that just stopped watching porn once they got married. The fact that he still has this compulsion, and it’s strong enough to where he has a dedicated laptop for it, points to a more serious issue.
