I have a friend that is getting married and going to the Caribbean for her honeymoon. She’s not sure what kind of clothing to pack. She doesn’t wear hijab, but she generally dresses quite modestly, like always wearing full pants, and nothing sleeveless. But she was always hoping that on her honeymoon with her hubby she could dress a little more freely. But he is kind of uptight about that stuff.
If you went on a honeymoon to a hot, tropical place, what did/would you wear? If you covered fully, did you encounter any problems when trying to use the pool facilities? Most western people would not understand why you’d like to be covered in those kinds of places.
I love wearing gypsy style pants (which almost look like a punjabi shalwar) with cute kurta type tops. Summer and maxi dresses. She can take outfit she really wants to wear and she can wear it in their place, just not outside.
^^ I feel like guys don't understand how girls are impacted by clothing restrictions. They can wear whatever they want, and it's the same as all the other guys are wearing. It's so much tougher for girls because we have to be more cautious about what we wear. Especially if you are in a Caribbean resort where everyone else is strolling around practically naked, you feel like you stand out more.
And I'm terrified of swimming pools because when I was younger I was often mortified when I got kicked out of swimming pools due to the fact that I was wearing tights with a t-shirt.
Awww.. this makes me feel so sad.
My fiance is soooo uptight about this. I wanted to go to a tropical resort but instead will be going to disney world and universal studios for a honeymoon because tht way being covered wont b an issue. However, every1 will b in shorts and I will be sweating in my jeans.
Mayb if I can find some comfy pants, I will wear them.
Arghhh men are so weird about this stuff.
yeah what the girls have said so far sounds good- maxi dresses, short sleeved tshirts, linen or cotton trousers, lots light colours and she can dress things up with a lovely sunhat. a big brimmed straw hat so the whole outfit looks like its on purpose and not just her stuck in clothing when everyone else is in a teeny bikini or short shorts. its tough, i sympathise! its too bad they can't go elsewhere- does the uptight hubby realise how people will be dressed there, i.e. he'll still be seeing other women in skimpy clothing, so its not like he'll be avoiding anything just by making sure his wife is covered.
Thanks for all the ideas ladies! (I have to admit, I'm taking notes for when MY time comes in a few years - lol!)
Honestly, he's a really nice guy but he just has traditional Pakistani mentality in that he doesn't like his woman being exposed. And since she dresses quite modestly in general, he doesn't understand her conundrum for wanting to dress a little differently on her honeymoon. And he doesn't care what other girls are wearing, so long as his wifey is covered. Ugh.
She herself really really wants to go to the Caribbean and just let loose with the whole beach vibe and hoped that she could wear stuff like knee-length flowy skirts, bathing suits with a knee-length sarong, tank tops etc. She hasn't proposed this to him yet because she's afraid of him responding negatively and dashing her hopes. But I told her to talk to him..who knows, he might just be fine with it. It's not like her in-laws would be seeing the pics from the honeymoon and be scandalized or anything! It's just between the two of them.
And honestly, everyone else at those resorts is so naked anyways...who's gonna give a second glance at the semi-covered brown girl?? lol
if I have never worn a bikini before in my life and one day I just dash out on the beach with a bikini, I wouldn't know how to react at people around
ahahah just thinking about this is making me laugh (because i'm picturing myself walking around in a bikini on a beach)
I'm sure wearing long capris and a t-shirt would be fine for going in the water..
Your friend should definitely get long maxi-dresses, they look REALLY nice and they're in right now! and she can wear a thin/sheer cardigan on top. It DOES suck having to be covered up in such a warm place, but hey.. gota do what you gota do.

I know SO MANY hijabi girls who have gone on their honeymoon to tropical resorts, and TOTALLY let loose with what they wear. I mean whatever, it's their own choice and like you said, it's just between the girl and her husband. I'm sure her husband will be okay with it, she just needs to sweet talk him into it ;)
Have they finalized what kind of resort they will be staying at? We are going to go to one which has those super private villas right on the water. Its super secluded and comes with its own mini infinity pool and the ocean is just a few steps down from the villa (literally). They are spaced far enough that it is SO private.. no one can see you!!! Maybe planning on honeymooning at one of these type of resorts will help the ease the hubby's unease and also allow your friend to be more free with her dressing? Atleast during the time they spend at their villa!
My fiance is not uptight at all about this stuff and has an open mind. I'm buying alot of skirts and maxi dresses (they are AMAZING for hot weather and look so beautiful while being covered!). I am buying a few evening dresses for fancy dinners as well. :) It is fun shopping!
Get yourself loaded with stylish tunics with bell fitted trousers. For evening and dinners you can have long stylish gown style dresses with capris or straight trousers they look stylish.... And yes dont worry carry on your own fashion statement and just focus on enjoying!!! To be true nobody is looking at you everybody around will be having fun on their own!!! so dressed up in the way you are most comfortable.
