newborn diapers,
wipes,
a few onesies,
a couple of full body suits with zippers,
take home outfit,
a hat,
a squirt bottle (for when you go to the bathroom and there isn’t any lota business there),
overnight pads,
moisturiser / face wash / toothbrush (i was in the hospital for 3 days),
pj’s and a t-shirt,
nursing bra,
flip flops one size larger than my own (my feet were super swollen when i left the hospital),
camera / ipad,
baby blankets,
swaddling blankets (the ones with the velcro tabs)…
i'd also add in a washcloth and a small bottle of baby wash for baby's first bath. i can't remember what the nurse used - it was probably johnsons & johnsons, which is fine - but if you are particular about it, keep your own.
and if its a boy, be prepared to pay for the c-sec since its considered elective and OHIP doesn't cover it. i can't remember now, but it was a hefty fee- i think $300? it was a bit of a sticker shock to us since we hadn't known we'd be paying for it ourselves. doh.
Don't forget a towel if u want to take a shower (which u will, trust me). The hospital I was at had these thin, rough towels!!
Sadzz id take a quran along waise if i was you. And when Ill be you :)
definitely the towels!
not sure about the Quran since labor doesn't really leave room for anything else, but if it makes you feel better, go for it! :)
speaking of, actually, are you considered paak during labour, i.e. can hold the Quran?

That is a totally valid point.
But if someone else is accompanying you and you want them to recite it,maybe yes.My mother accompanied my phuppoo when she had her baby and phuppoo wanted ammi to recite Surah Maryam when she was in labor.Ammi took her panj surah along and read that in the waiting room.
last time i missed out a hairbrush!!! after showering i looked like a junglee and had to wait for hubs to grab one from the hospital shop...
also forgot a going home outfit can you believe!!!!! mom had to grab something for me and bring it, and i though i was sooo organised and packed weeks before the birth LOL
That is a totally valid point.

i took my cellfone with me having tilawat with translations of many surahs including surah maryam....and i was listening during labor....i placed it on my side table....
^ thats interesting. Did you do that at some one’s advice, and how was the feeling? Does listening to the recitation of Sura mariyam relieve the pain/ soothes?
How about the essential baby shopping? Does it also include under this thread?

That is interesting and really good it worked for you.,
My labor and delivery experience was a lil too chaotic for me to think about anything else, unfortunately. In the end all that matters is that it all ends well...!
:)
I got my list of "what I'll need" from the hospital... its an awesome checklish (very similar to what you have said).
It also specified how many rompers/onesies I needed (5).
Going home nappies (2)
2 caps/beanies
Super maternity pads (2 packs)
two undies for each day I stay
pjs
going home clothes
clothes for partner
I had packed all of bubbas stuff into the new nappy bag I got... and decided yesterday that it was no use taking that consideirng it was already full and i still needed to pack a million other things... so I am going to get a cabin bag and put all the stuff in that instead...
no one adviced me i just took my phone…it was a good experience but i couldnt hear the tilawat during contractions lol…but i was trying to draw my attention to it and it did help me not to get freaked out of pain and uncomfortable situations…
i was also listening after delivery coz every nurse or doctor were making me feel sad as i didnt have my mom or mil with me and everyone was like " o my god what will u do now it would be hard call them to come for you etc…"
a british woman’s eyes were filled with tears when i told her that i will be alone with my baby lol
she came for a survey on hr project on new moms and their feelings…
here’s the newborn shopping list…i posted it before somewhere…
Why were you alone akmoti, I don’t know if I could comprehend that. ALLAH give you ajar for it. Thanks for the list girls. it is on my check list now. Oh I know it sounds silly but remember to have the car seat ready for when you come back
