What to do you on a long flight? or a long airport layover?

how do you make the time go by?

Re: What to do you on a long flight? or a long airport layover?

Layovers:

Depends on how much time I have, how much luggage and whether there are visa restrictions.

Two years ago, with a 7 hour lay-over in Rome, we left the airport, hired a taxi and had the driver take is all around Rome. We got a quick tour of the city which definitely whetted my appetite for a proper return visit.

On the other hand, if I have too much stuff and am just tired - I find a quiet corner and sleep - I have a fear of missing my flight (which has happened/nearly happened too many times to count).

Flight:

Read a book or watch the on-flight movies - I can't fall asleep on planes.

on a long flight - I take sleeping pills and anti nausea pills and knock myself out

on a layover - I browse in the shops and observe people traveling habits

On long flights I usually take a bunch of magazines and crossword puzzles

Re: What to do you on a long flight? or a long airport layover?

I slept mostly....haven't had to deal with a long lay-over.

Keep an eye on my children. :naak:

On flights, i try to engage them in activities that we can do together…like crossword puzzles…it’s fun, but they’re also learning :maroush:

I always carry magazines with me. Electronic entertainment (Iphone/Ipod/Laptop) for movies, songs or games are always secondary as you never know when they run out of juice (though I always charge them full a night before the flight). So magazines are my primary source of killing time.

such a nerd! I drug them so they sleep and let me sleep.

On a recent trip - we had a few hours to kill on the airport. There is a budget airline RYANAIR and I guess they are known for their strict ONLY ONE luggage size for carry ons. They charge a arm and leg if you don't comply.

It was sooo entertaining to see people coming and trying to shove their HUGE suitcases into their carry on size bins. People were sitting on their luggage and pulling their unmentionables items out. Trying to shove their shopping bags. Putting on multiple layers of clothes on.

It was really entertaining ... like watching a episodes of AFV.

Ohhh I dread long stop-overs.

Try to keep busy by reading magazines, books, shopping or window shopping around, listening to my ipod etc.

A northeast blizzard does not care what type of ticket you bought. You still gotta wait. :snooty:

Find a nice restaurant, order a nice meal, eat as slow as possible and then slow walk every single corner of the airport to digest it. I always do shopping at airports and on airplanes.
