What to do when...

Re: What to do when…

I’m a brown and proud PAKISTANI ‘dog’ as you call it…and they knew it and they also know my former education which is nothing special, so any idiot could have guessed I’m not a genious. I might have come close to being one if Ihad chosen languages or writing direction. In this direction, I’m only average and it shows very clearly.

I do pick up certain things quickly which sometimes leads people to believe I already know that, but when it comes to calculating and stuff I suck. (in the past people thought I was perhaps a computer expert, or that I’ve had a higher lab education than I told them, or that I’ve done some important work in a hospital in the past (!!!), etc. often when I try something new it goes fine and sometimes people can’t believe I’m doing it for the first time, but the truth is: overall I really am average and nothing special, just a normal person like anyone else)

And about my personal life, I don’t talk about my family often. Sometimes fun stuff about my kids or something about the cultural difference once in a while. I usually keep the conversations about work. They keep prying and trying and testing and forcing their ridicilous assumptions on me.

Re: What to do when…

I don’t think it’s a question of guys or girls. My boss, the owner of the pharmacy is male and actually just as worse as the rest. I don’t get it, you go there to do your job, in my case to learn and work, and it’s a responsible job, yet they find the time and energy to do all this side by side.

When I remain quiet and polite towards them, they still get worse. I just don’t get it. Is it really me, is it really my homestudy, is it a mixture? A few times I did try to talk to one of them and to them all as a group too, they knew exactly what I was talking about, but only denied it in my face. It’s like someone put’s a purple book in front of you and then tells you the book isn’t purple and he/she did not put that book there. When they did that to me, I knew it was no use talking further.

Re: What to do when…

:smack: crap didnt know that .. sry for bieng such a jerky khota :frowning:

anyways, sadya baji u prolly have more experience/knowledge then i do but the way i think of it is .. sometimes people opress you just to feel better or when they know they can kick yo butt and get away with it .. its just the pleasure of being on top of the world they enjoy i guess but see the problem is U STAY CALM AND QUIET and frankly sometimes even education dont help ignorants like me:plol and they prolly dont know much abt ur culture either so if u dont talk or dont confront them .. their assumptions gona lead them to accusation. desi people do it all the time .. they dont talk they let other people ride on them and just stay shut and try to bare through it .. ITS JUST WRONG YAR ! everybody needs to speak up for their self and in ur case u need to be as jolly as u wud be to any native friend/co-worker .. talk to them of every sort u feel comfortable with and if they break their mouth again then they say SCRATCH RED OF THE RED-NECKS.

Re: What to do when...

Talking doesn't help. Even if you do open your mouth, it get's worst. They need an excuse to bite me, so they try everything they can to make me... I won't give them what they want. Speaking up helps in certain cases only. In this case, it's no good.

And I'm not the only foreigner working there, there are two different nationalities among the rest of the goray. So they know about different cultures. This has nothing to do with culture. I'm going to start searching something else.

But it is true that most people seem to feel better when they think they are hurting another person. My colleagues are very cheerfull while belittling me, they really enjoy it and almost seem like awful kids sometimes. Most of what they do is for nothing. Before they ruin my resume, I must work somewhere else so I have two addresses on my resume.

I've even noticed how they give me dirty looks when they think I'm not watching them. I was so shocked. I've seen both my bosses giving me dirty looks too, not just the other colleagues. Perhaps they want me to fight, so they can have an excuse to kick me out? If that is the case, to teach them a lesson maybe I should stay there then.

I'm not going to try to befriend them though, no way. Just politeness, that's it.

Re: What to do when...

^^PM me...I will tell you the way...okay... :)

Re: What to do when...

What kind of things do they tell you? and Why do you thing they tell you? Not feeling comfortable around your co-workers or not getting along with them is not helping you make the most out of this oppurtunity.

Re: What to do when...

I'm getting along with them, they are not with me. I've been polite from my side, I smile at everyone and I help out if I'm asked and if I can. I don't know what else I could do. I'm not going to suck their a** though. Thanks to me, there has been no fight, even though efforts have been made to humiliate me and get me mad on numerous occasions.

Re: What to do when…

Why in a PM? Are you going to tell me something dark like murdering them?

Re: What to do when...

Do you know why they are doing this to you?

Re: What to do when...

Not really. But from the kind of remarks I get regularly, I can guess. And if that's the case, then what they're doing is really pathetic and useless. But that is such a long story to explain.

Re: What to do when...

Have you ever thought that there might be something wrong with u? rather than just squarly blaming them? I know its hard but think about it. You said that both of your bosses give you bad look and try to do things to you and same goes for other ppl working with u.. from what i read i think u need to step back and re-evaluate urself. Maybe there is something u can do change this?

just my 2cents

Re: What to do when...

Be strong and in the mean while I suggest that you start looking for another place to work. I just think that you should be making the best out of your time spent at the pharmacy. Such an environment where your co-workers make you feel uncomfortable is certainly not conducive to learning.

Re: What to do when…

exactly thats wat i meant by my first post !!

i mean cmon ur bosses give u dirty looks ? gime a break now , will you ! im sry sadya baji but the way uve stringed all these facts. it just sounds weird/sloppy.

and for culture, being a muslim is a good enough reason sometimes.

Re: What to do when...

Well, all I can think of is the fact that lies have been spread against me. That is such a long long story. I've never had problems like this before.

I had an excellent learning period when I was going for my lab diploma. My boss there said I was an excellent worker and divers.

I also had a typing job where my boss was enthusiastic because of my typing speed.

I did have family problems in the past which sometimes influenced my work. But apart from that, I've been an excellent worker, or so my former bosses have told me anyway.

Maybe the problem really is the bad name being given to me. Since the last months of 2002 lies are being spread against me and my family. It's such a long story. I don't exactly know what's going on. There are all kinds of crazy stories running around and don't seem to stop.

I've blamed myself first, I thought it was me. But now I slowly realise it's not. I talked to some rare friends and they found me normal. Months ago one Pakistani lady warned me though, she said I was being hugely discussed in a terrible negative light.

My family regularly tells me about new idiotic stories. Nobody seems to know the source. I've been a home student since 2004, I've really been inside at home msot of the day studying all day long, watching tv, reading books and not going outside much. Still the weird stories didn't stop. I have done nothing to cause those stories. They are there, wether I go out or stay at home, wether I have a job or not.

And when I look at the kind of weird comments directed towards me at work, it's almost certain the lies spread against me are a major force in their behaviour towards me.

I don't care anymore if I'm hated or not. I find people who treat other people bad just because of stories they heard very shallow. If I would treat someone bad adn then that person hates me, I deserve it. But as long as I'm polite and treat everyone with respect, and still I get treated bad, it's obvious it's not normal and if it really is because of lies being spread against me, then it is so shallow and I find people like that low.

You can't like every single person on earth. But what's wrong with being respectful and normal to each other? Why try to ruin each other, why try to ruin someones working experience? And if there really is something wrong with me, then they should tell me instead of playing games with me.

Re: What to do when...

You know what, I could try to record their voices when they do their silly stuff. When they act nasty or deny what they did, I will at least have the recordings. If they give me a bad resume on purpose, I will still have recordings.

Re: What to do when...

i just want to know before i give u my opnion. sadya baji that how many hours left ? or how many hours u have done ??

Re: What to do when...

Not half yet, I started on 1 july and work 4 days a week, but I missed a couple of days. It must be about 336 hours, that's the number of hours I have finished so far.

Guess I won't be recording their voices, I couldn't find a recorder in a decent price. :(

I'm going to stay there until I find a second pharmacy. I guess that means searching again. And here I thought I was going to prepare for my exams in peace. Oh well...

It will be a true miracle if I get that peace of paper in the end.

Re: What to do when...
