So basically you have two choices... You can choose to play it like the MIL by trying to manipulate the situation to your benefit or you could choose just not to be part of the politics and stay honest and ignore the negatives and concentrate on the positives of the situation. She can't make you feel guilty when you know you did nothing wrong.

Quite honestly speaking, I would just let her do it. She feels she is the better cook then let her cook.
Soon enough, she will tire of it and start to back off...they always do because they realize their little trick backfired.

ok so i understand this a little bit... infact in case of dawats, these desi people have a habbit of asking " bahu nay kia pakaya" and at that time u'll get to hear, no she didnt cook anything :( however u've been doing all the cleaning, and washing and cutting stuff sigh
but nevertheless, the best solution in such scenarios is become DEAF... though it's difficult but 1. Dont feel guilty 2. Be Deaf

MIL says not to cook a certain salan as you dont cook it well....
quite rude, she coudlve just said ill do it......rather than say that. was offering to cook all the meals for a dawat and ive noticed she doesnt let me cook, will make reasons...then will indirectly make me feel guilty for not doing anything.......grrrrr
ps. he salans are NOT GOOD...
nahi pakanay deti tou phir bhi zabardasti pakkaya karo aur kaha karo ke nahi maine apko apne haath ki khila khila ke maarna hai :p :D

On a serious note nadz...why do u wanna cook? if your MIL wants to go through the hassle of cooking herself let her do it...u enjoy that time of yours...outing,shopping etc....tumko paka pakaya khana mil raha hai enjoy karo larki....once she is fed up with cooking all the time she will ask you herself to cook.
