Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

From my 1st child, I learned NOT to buy too much before the baby is born. I had gotten sooo many newborn & 0-3 month outfits, that some he hardly even wore or wore just once. Plus family usually gifts you a lot of stuff as well. Also with baby bottles just get one or 2 bottles that you think are good, do not get the sets. I had gotten some set of Avent bottles, like 4-5 bottles & accesories, only to learn my son just didn't take to that type of bottle. I had to try 4-5 different bottles to see which really worked with him. Best o fluck I am in the same boat. Feel so tired, dont feel like doing anything!!!

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

What about baby monitors and breast pumps? Any use and ideas which is the best one to get?

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

lots of burp clothes/wash clothes
bibs
diapers and wipes ofcourse
night light or lamp for when teh baby wakes up at night

Like Afro said, i wouldnt buy a lot of clothes at first since you get a lot of gifts. Plus newborns can be of different sizes. Our baby got a lot of 0-3 month outfits but no newborn sizes so we bought those after she was born.

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

Oh, about breastpump, i got Medela Pump in Style Advanced and totally love it. Its a double electric pump and worth every penny. Also, try to find out if your insurance covers breast pumps. Ours did and i am glad i got it.

Since we live in an apartment, i didnt feel the need for a baby monitor. I can usually hear her over TV and other noise. I think its amazing how you get so tuned in to your baby.

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

my life saver was the bouncer the vibrating chair so get my daughter used to sleep peacefully in it for hours

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

What Ira mentioned is a great pump, but if you don't want to shell out too much, do make sure to at least get a decent quality "electric" pump, as opposed to the manual hand held pump. It is worth it to get a monitor if say you have 2 stories in your home & baby will be on another story. I had been given baby monitor in my shower, but never really used it.

Like someone mentioned the infant bouncer or even this Graco swing is very good for baby to spend some time in and you get a few minutes free.

Another thing I recommend is for bathtime. I had gotten 2 different bathtubs with my 1st born, and then while walking thru Target discovered this foam frog shaped bath "mat" if you will. It provides a firm cushion for you to wash your newborn baby on in the sink...without going thru the hassle of setting up the big chunky bathtub...etc....
and the foam pad even has a color monitor, that changes color if water is too warm. I highly recommend it, sometimes it's so much easier to give baby a quick wash in that, as u place baby on the foam, and use one hand to support its hand and other to wash/rinse with.

Hellllooooooooo mothers and mothers to be Inshallah

I am definately thinking of getting a breast pump. Inshallah, i want express to give hubby a chance to feed the baby via bottle to have that special fatherly bond. I am also reading Contented baby book by Gina Ford and its says Avent is another good make for the breast pump.

Girls what i want to know is whilst i was looking for breast pumps, i noticed you get 2 bottles with the pumps and teats which is fine. BUT, you also need a steraliser. And i have read from Gina Ford that you should get a steam steraliser.

Have a look at the following link!
Philips AVENT iQ24 electronic steam steriliser : mothercare

Does this include the bottles or just a steraliser? Cuz i dont want that many! Hmmm…

Gotta go to a meeting but will be back to write about the bathing equipment!

Thanks girls! You lot are alot of help! Genius!

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

Things I really need:

A maxi cosi car set, diaper dispenser, bottle sterilizer, a table for changing cloths/diapers, a bath tub. And lots of diapers ;)

Saadia - a diaper dispenser? haha...what is that?

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

Sunset, if you wash the bottles and parts in the dishwasher, s houldnt it take care of the sterilising? Also i think the link just shows the bottles placed in the steriliser. You dont get the bottles with it, i am sure.

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

I think unless you have a lot of space, you can even do what Ira mentioned or simply add bottles to boiling hot water for a minute or 2 and then let air dry. I believe a diaper dispenser is just a cute holder for the diapers, that you can hang on the crip and easily get out diapers...and they usually come matching with crib sheet sets. (Babies r us).
I think a Diaper Disposal System is necessary. Here we have the Diaper Genie and a few other brands that let you dispose of dirty diapers in an airtight container that doesn't let out any odors.

Oh good thats so good to know! I will read some reviews and probably buy this one!!

Ira, i wouldnt want to use the dishwasher and wash with other stuff because of the smell of the food getting into the bottle. Plus, it uses so much water, i might as well wash them water. Everyone tells me even to wash 4-5 plates in the dishwasher and im like "what u r so lazy, its not hard to wash by hand"

something like this, maybe i got the name wrong.

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

I think Saadia meant the Diaper Disposal system. Susnset here is a link with details:
Diaper Genie® II Advanced Disposal System : Diaper Genie® - Playtex Baby

or just do a google for ‘Diaper Genie’

Hi

Muslin squares are a must. So versatile and can be used for anything.

A bath support - I used to freak out thinking how I would bath Emaaz as a new born, found a new born platic support for the bath that made things so much easier

I found the Nappy bins really handy, got an angelcare one with a bounty voucher cheap. And although some people aren't keen on them, I found it really handy, especially in winter, not having to go outside to chuck the bin away at every change.

Grobags, also an essential. No need to wrry about little one kicking the sheets off or sliding under during the night.

I know this doesn't really count but....the one other essential purchase for me, although Emaaz has only just started really enjoying it (to the point he will sleep in it now) is the fisherprice jumperoo. Its a bit pricy but it so lets you get other stuff done and I have yet to come across a child that doesn't love it!

Thats it for the moment

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

What is a good bouncer/rocker that you mom's reccomend?

Re: What to buy for a newborn baby?

Afro, i have FIsher Price's Hoppy Days bouncer and so far its working out good for us. The rainforest one had reviews where they said the toy bar was too low so i got this one and Kanzah loves it.
