The patil is common all over maharashtra and every village has atleast one patil…Though Patil is now used as last name by lot of marathis …In last few years Patil became common last name of Dalits(backward class hindus) .

The muslim version of Patil is patel and still used by lot of land owning muslims…

there is no such word/caste in our area...there is a blanket word for all landowners and it's called "Zameendaars"...Zameendaarii was abolished after independence in India.
Wadera (Though the word literally means elder ones) and in old times not a Wadera might not be holding lands and all that. But with the passage of time, this term is not refers to Land Lords.

RaiBhadur, KhanBahadur were the titles but don't know if they had any link with Zamindari, Yeah Pundas destroyed their hegemony winning centuries old war with the landlords:D, my ancestor were misaldar but mostly chowdhary is used in Punjab and Haryana now:)
zameendars has nothing to do with caste most of land owing people in my state come from my own caste reddy and chowdhary/kamma
telangana part of my state has jagirdar system since nizam time,this people are so poor and always under control of jagirdars

kamma chowdhary and naidu are same,it used mostly in southern andhra where as chowdhary in northern part common name is kamma
naidu means nayak village head. especially during vijayanagara empire they were appointed in tamil nadu has nayakas,many of them still live in tamil nadu but lost their identity and speak tamil
few other upper caste like kapus and velammas of northern andhra also use naidu in their names, this guys are similar to shetty/lingayats of karnataka
reddy and kamma(naidu/chowdhary) were always dominant caste in andhra since ancient time there use to be many reddy/nayak dynasty even though we don't come under traditional varna system of kshatriyas
but all the chief minister have come from either one of the caste as well as top bussniessman of state even though population of this two combined is less then 15 percent

Zardari is a tribe name. Zardari literally means wealthy, but Zardari is not used as a title for Landlords neither in Balochistan nor in Sindh.
Similar to Gothra, Gothra is sub tribe of the main tribe, so some people use gothra as surname as well in India:)
In Kerala I don't think there is a special name for landlords. I think the kings years ago bestowed land upon educated people. Then someor all of the land was given to folk who a tually worked on the land. That is my limited knowledge.

kapu have many sub caste like balija who come under bc,obc and forward caste as well,because in modern times irrespective to the caste many of them progressed well. due to rise in land value,education and other stuff
same with yadavs in telangana. most of the politicians are from this caste
coming to brahmins most of them are from middle class to few upper middle class,you won't find many poor or very rich brahmins.in olden days we had brahmins politicians from sarvepalli radhakrishna,VV giri both were presidents of india,our first chief minister was famous tangutori praksham pantulu(pantulu similar to pandit),in modern times their representation is low though,but high in literature,film industry,as well as sports stars two players representing india cricket team are brahmins vvs laxman and rohit sharma

@Ninja. Patil, Malipatil is also surname of landowner lingayat caste of north Karnataka as well

this people wanted their entire caste into bc to gain benefits,some of them even have surname as royal believing krishna devaraya was from their caste,this term is modern though
btw in southern andhra reddy are also called as kapus but it had nothing to ofdo with balijas,kapu is similar to naidu title given to landlords i think,people just turned it into caste
basically there are 3 dominant caste reddy,kamma(chowdhary/naidu),balija(kapu/naidu) and another one being velamma (naidu)
btw not all reddy/kamma are rich,there are many poor people too.
there are many rich balija/kapus from coastal districts
ps:i dunno exact number of brahmin mla/mps,but there are many beaurocrats though,brahmins never had any problem in andhra unlike iyers/iyengars of tamil nadu,infact most of brahmins in my place are iyengars from tamil nadu some of them have been living here for centuries because of famous piligrim site,almost all the priest of temples are iyers/iyengars entire tirumala is ruled by iyengar
