Hajj book , duas list..good chappals..a cross bag to put the books and to put the chappals in ..........if u need help or need advice just pm I went in 2012
Re: what things needed for hajj
when packing for the mina tents ..pack light ie only pack essentials because you have to carry it for about 5 miles and depending where your tents are and which group your in ( Europe camp/Asia camp etc) and be prepared its hugely busy (3/ 4 million people in one area)
Re: what things needed for hajj
All good things.. one thing i would say is good chappals dont mean expensive chappals.. just comfortable ones.. coz they get lost the most.. also keep a stash of low volume junk food.. some times u can be stuck in the bus for 8-12 hours. and ALWAYS make sure every body carries a water bottle and fill it up where ever u can.. the worst part of hajj is always when u get stuck without food or water...also one thing that looks a little silly but our whole group fought over it.. was.. the hands free umbrella. they are not easily available but if u can find one it solves two purposes.. one it saves u from the heat and the sun and also keep ppl 10 inches from ur face:D

would women need chappal/slipper too ? Can we not just use good sneakers through out.
Also should men get multiple pair of slippers ?
Why would you need 2/3 abayas ? would one abaya and 7 to 8 pair of clothes and 3/4 hijab be enough ? especially if one is going for only 12 to 15 days.
sorry to hijack the thread

Would a cap and sun glasses be enough protection from sun and heat ?

Re: what things needed for hajj
your abaya will get dirty /wet especially when you go to any toilets in the main 3 days of hajj ( i took 3 while i was there for 15 days )( be prepared the toilets are disgusting/smelly especially the women section they leave sanitary towels and poo on the floor ) ...yes u can wear sneakers but when you do wudu you need chappals otherwise your sneakers will get wet and the chappals are easy to take off .. take a spare pair of slippers/chapplas just in case yours gets stolen/lost ( my brothers sandals got stolen on the last day we were in makkah) ...Also i wore pj under my abaya (its got to be comfortable clothes) .......
Re: what things needed for hajj
if your in the Europe camp … we got free water bottles through out our stay in the 3 main days of hajj…also we didn’t have any plug outlets in the mina camps but my phone lasted the 3 days … which hotel are you staying at ? @sg11 /@nadz123 and also its really hottt there in the mina camps
Re: what things needed for hajj
I do not have the hotel name yet. I do plan on taking only comfortable clothing with me.
I ll get extra pair of slippers for myself.
Someone told me to take off abaya when I go to the bathroom probably because of the same reason that the bathrooms are wet and dirty.
Re: what things needed for hajj
also there are a only about 2 English toilets and about 6 Pakistani toilets( be prepared for long lines) ...there isn't anywhere to hang your abaya
@sg11 have you been to ummrah before?
Re: what things needed for hajj
I don't remember what our packing list was like, but I remember walking a lot. So if you are not used to walking, start now and get some practice.
( and please pray for me when you are in the haram shareef )
Re: what things needed for hajj
I went a few years ago and a lot of the above sounds over complicated.
You need a few abayas, it was so hot, I didn't bother wearing clothes underneath - do whatever is comfortable. I bought one from here and bought more out there, much much nicer and better prices.
We bought croc sandals, yes they're ugly, but they're extremely practical, you can wear them in the bathroom and out and about - I have extremely sensitive feet and got a blister, so I would wear them with socks, everyone else was fine. Maybe I should have worn them in the UK to get used to them.
We bought really cheap drawstring back packs from eBay (I think), had one each, in it we had a janamaz, which you will definitely need as you may end up praying on marble if you don't find space on the carpet. Also carried quran, use your judgment on what else you need, dua's, water, etc. It's also good to carry your crocs in once you're in the masjid, otherwise you'll come out and someone would have walked off with them.
I also took a stash of cereal bars, good source of energy when you're on the move.
Vaseline is a must, to avoid getting sweat rash, and toiletries should be unscented. A hand towel as well. We bought a lot of stuff out there, there's a massive chain called "Bin something", we got towels, sleeping bags from there, but we ended up not using the sleeping bags and left them there.
In addition to that, use you common sense, sunglasses, phone chargers, snacks. etc. The group you are going with will also give you advice on what to take.
Also, you're not going to the middle of nowhere. If there is anything you have forgotten you can easily buy it out there.
I would recommend you try and travel light, as you'll end up carrying your luggage on and off coaches, in to hotels.
Re: what things needed for hajj
Oh and also, I would recommend you all take unlocked mobile phones and get local SIM cards, you'll always be calling each other looking for each other
Re: what things needed for hajj
I have not done umrah before. This is our first time inshaAllah and we are going for only 10 days so I want to already have things needed and not spend time buying stuff over there but I know and everyone has told me that there are shops for all things needed in Medinah and Mecca so if we forget to take anything, it will be ok.
Thanks for all the tips.
Re: what things needed for hajj
If you're not a walk person, start a one hour walk daily, atleast 3 months before so you will get used to of walking. It helps.
Re: what things needed for hajj
If you are traveling from US, do you need a hi-lo watt converter for cell phone charger ?
